International Conference on Dawah Methodologies by Dawah Academy IIUI , 2019
Da’wah Centre for Women (DCW), situated in a beautiful building in the new campus of International Islamic University in the federal capital city of Islamabad, was established in June 1998, and has completed its two decades of journey in the field of da’wah for women. The centre was established twelve years after Da’wah Academy started working as a constituent body of International Islamic University, Islamabad. Earlier named as Academy for the training of Imams, its foremost scope was training for Imams and Khateebs. Later on, its activities were expanded to include male teachers, writers, media personnel, scouts, doctors and others. The aims and objectives of Da’wah Academy were set as to plan and develop educational and training da’wah programs; to organize programs for training of community leaders, professionals and da’wah workers; to organize orientation courses, seminars, workshops, and conferences; to seek cooperation with other institutions with similar objectives; and to produce and publish da’wah literature, audios and videos. Setting up of the Da’wah Centre for Women was a long felt and recognized need, considering the importance of providing basic knowledge of Islam to around half the population of the society. The women centre followed the Academy in the same footsteps initially, with modest goals and limited activities, considering the appointment of only two academic faculty members and restricted budgetary provisions. Within twenty years of its journey, it has earned many achievements in the field of training and research, set as its major goals fulfilling other objectives. The centre is actively involved in dissemination of Islamic teachings by strengthening the aqidah, philosophy of ibadah, inculcation of moral values, and empowerment of family system and ultimately reformation of society. The present paper aims to give a brief account of achievements of Da’wah Centre for Women (DCW) during the past twenty years of its working, focusing on the methodology of its da’wah activities, which has somewhat different dimensions from prevalent madaris system and other da’wah institutions of the time. Prior to discussing the role and activities of DCW, it will be appropriate to give a brief over view of meaning of da’wah, its need, importance and purpose along with Quranic guidance and prophetic methodology for it.
