The EFL Teachers' and Students' Attitudes towards the Use of Songs in Learning English

The purpose of this study is to investigate the EFL teachers’ and students’ attitudes towards the use of songs in teaching and learning English language. The participants were (43) English teachers who teach Sixth Grade in public schools in the directorate of Education for Wadi Al-Sier in Amman. (42) Sixth-grade students were participated as well in this study from the same Directorate. Questionnaires were filled out by both EFL teachers and students. The results show that students are of view that songs helped them learning English vocabulary and it is also considered as good practice by teachers. Based on the results, some recommendations for both teachers and students have been highlighted.

English Songs as Means of Aiding Students' Proficiency Development

The major aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of using songs in teaching English language to primary school students. This research will specifically investigate to what extent songs can contribute to the development of students' language proficiency. The research is designed to find out whether using songs can be an effective way in creating positive attitude and motivation in language learners. The research will be carried out through the use of questionnaire. The data will be analyzed using the SPSS software to determine the best statistical technique to be used to test the hypotheses and to interpret the result. This is a preliminary survey research and it is hoped that this research will give an opportunity to teachers to realize songs help improve students' language proficiency. From the survey, it has been discovered that the use of song not only helps the understanding, it also stimulates and increases the students' interest to learn, enjoy and engage in the learning process. Furthermore, it accelerates students' confidence, learning ability and skill when activities are highly motivated and memorable. Future researchers should extend this research to other samples in other localities and cultures.

Malaysian Teachers‟ Perspectives on Using Songs in English Language Teaching

The employment of songs in an English classroom is not rare since it is the most invaluable tool to aid language acquisition, physical, and mental development. The objective of this research is to survey the perspectives of English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers (n= 60) in Malaysian state primary schools on using songs to teach English to young learners (YLs). Data collection is by means of questionnaires and the findings revealed that teachers have concrete conceptions on the teaching values of songs and its potency in teaching ESL to young children. Yet, the result depicted that teachers had difficulties in selecting songs and the recommendation is to provide them with interesting and enjoyable song materials for their classes. To conclude, songs can become useful sources to assist language learning and acquisition if teachers possess the strategies in using them.

Students’ Perception on Song As Media in Learning EFL

Despite a sizable body of research, the benefits of employing songs for learning (learner-centered) receive little attention. The purpose of the study is to understand what Indonesian EFL students think about the benefits of utilizing music to learn a new language. Eleven college students majoring in English were used to gather data for an in-depth interview approach used to investigate the research phenomena utilizing a qualitative case study design.The results of this study revealed an intriguing finding: the participants felt that using songs could help them learn English more effectively in aspects such as speaking and listening skills, pronunciation and vocabulary advancement, and development of confidence while keeping the class mood and concentration. THE ROLES OF SONGS IN TEACHING ENGLISH TO EFL BEGINNER LEARNERS THE CASE OF SOME SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN BENIN REPUBLIC.

Abstract This paper aims at exploring effective and sustainable solutions to address the issue of beginners’ increasing demotivation to learn English as Foreign Language. The research has been designed so as to probe the role of songs in teaching English to EFL beginner learners. Literary research on songs has helped to highlight the importance of songs in teaching EFL beginners to develop communicative skills. In this regard, data are collected through a questionnaire administered to the study population made up of 65 randomly selected EFL teachers. The findings analysis shows that songs are barely used to develop learners’ language skills but rather for entertainment purposes. The ongoing research work suggests that EFL teachers should be trained on the effective use of songs in English classes. Moreover, secondary schools should be provided with songs teaching materials. INVESTIGATING CHALLENGES FOR LEARNING ENGLISH THROUGH SONGS

Teachers teaching in the 21 st century find classroom teaching and learning more challenging than it used to me. Generation Y are known to have problems with communication and generation Z are known to prefer learning tasks that contain the use of technology and activities that include the elements of fun. The use of songs has been successfully used in the teaching of English as a second/foreign language. Songs are known to motivate learners in the classroom. However, some language teachers report facing problems when they use English songs as teaching materials. This pilot study explores the challenges teachers face when they use of English songs in the English classrooms. Respondents were chosen from a public university in Malaysia. The instrument used is a questionnaire. Findings of the study revealed that teachers and learners face challenges such as pronunciation and meaning when English songs are used in the English classrooms.

The Use of Songs, Lyrics and Poetry in EFL Teaching and in SLA: Students' and Teachers' Views

This paper presents results of a study which assessed students' and teachers' views on the use of songs, lyrics and poetry in foreign language teaching. Previous studies have shown that these media can help learners improve English language skills irrespective of age; however, in Greece, no relevant studies have been conducted. This study focuses on Greek learners of English, between 8 and 17 years old, and English language teachers. Data were collected through questionnaires which were disseminated both digitally and in person. They examined whether songs, lyrics and poetry can improve English language skills, whether age plays a role in learning via these means, the possible factors that could encourage or discourage teachers from using them and whether teaching experience would influence their use. The findings revealed that these means could help learners acquire foreign language skills and that they are more widely used by less experienced teachers.

South Korean EFL teachers' attitudes, beliefs, and practices about using songs in the classroom

While there are many who promote the use of songs in English language teaching (ELT), the research literature on the subject is scarce. This is particularly true in terms of studies which measure teachers’ attitudes, beliefs, and practices about the use of songs in ELT. The primary aim of the present study was to make a contribution to this neglected area inquiry. The study measured the attitudes, beliefs, and practices of South Korean primary EFL teachers in regards to the use of songs in the classroom. The study employed a sequential explanatory design, featuring an initial quantitative phase where data was collected through a survey, followed by a qualitative phase, where data was collected through a focus group interview discussion. The findings supported previous research related to this topic, showing that primary school teachers have largely positive attitudes and beliefs about the role of songs in the classroom, and the pedagogical value of songs. However, findings indicated that teachers sometimes face challenges in finding appropriate materials to meet the needs of their learners. Moreover, a lack of teacher training in regards to how to utilize songs in the classroom was pointed out by both phases of the study. Finally, the study pointed to strong connections between the attitudes and beliefs practicing EFL teachers’ hold towards songs and their own personal experiences of songs as symbolic artifacts which can mediate language learning.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE USE OF ENGLISH SONGS AS A LEARNING WAY TO IMPROVE ENGLISH SKILL AMONG ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDENTS OF SURYAKANCANA UNIVERSITY

English as known as the international language which means needed by everyone or country to face modern era. Therefore, English becomes the most learned language in plenty of countries around the world. In Indonesia, English becomes a crucial thing so that is why people are competing to master the English language because they know the benefits they will get when mastering this language. To mastering English, there are various ways in learning and one of them is learning by listening song. Learning English by listening songs is a phenomenon that is often found today especially among students, thus this research is conducted. The purpose of this research is concerning on the use of English songs in college students' learning ways. Apart from that, there is an attempt to find out the total of the students use English songs in their ways learning English, the motivational reasons of English songs is used by students, the most English aspect that increase students' skills, and the challenge that faced by students in learning by English songs. The method use are qualitative and quantitative method by applying questionnaire as the instrument. And the researched is conducted in WhatsApp group with the participants consisted of 7 students in the year of 2020/2021 and 18 students in the year of 2021/2022 of English Education Department. The findings showed 96% of students use English songs in learning English. The students' reason in use English songs is to make them fun. Then, the most English aspect increase students' in the aspect of vocabulary and the challenge that students faced is difficult to understand the meaning of the songs.

Non-native English teachers’ views on the use of music and songs in teaching English as a foreign language to primary school learners

Teaching English to children through music has gained considerable attention. The use of songs in the English language classroom has become a subject that has increasingly drawn more interests.
