"Resilience Economy"

Resilience is highly used in science and arts almost every day while we might not see it linked to our existence. With resilience and resilient mindset, we would see and appreciate many things in our life and where we could optimise the influence to our socio-economy. Resilience Economy is a book that carries lots of values that are highly needed for stability of any country, society, organization and individuals' lifetime. It is a concept that can be easily grasped and adopted by any discipline. The book covers a total review and reflections of resilience role in creating better socio-economy. Dr Buheji targeted to provide practitioners, researchers and change community leaders a roadmap to boost the practices of resilience economy and resilience engineering. This work is essential for better withstanding adverse shocks and reducing the economic costs associated with weak economic structures through the ability to absorb disturbances and bouncing back, while continuing to function. With resilient economy, the world would witness more harmony while enhancing its capacity to respond to sudden crisis. Something that is worth exploring more in today's daunting conditions. The genuine goal of this book target to show the reader how resilience transforms and matches people's wealth towards people's wants. The author takes us into a journey about the potentials of resilience economy in each of the ten chapters. Chapters one and two are meant to set the base about what is resilience economy and how it impacts our socio-economy. Chapter three talks about resilience economy history and its latest development. Then we discuss about the different resilience economy enablers and types in both chapters four and five. Chapters six and seven investigate how to manage change towards resilience economy in order to achieve better transformation and how we build this change through resilience engineering. Chapter eight is linked to all the previous chapters as it focuses on when and how resilient economy would be measured. This is followed by having resilience through problem solving where complex situations of resilience would be discussed and what the best practices are in dealing with it. The last chapter ensures the reader get acquainted with best practices in sustaining resilience economy and how to create reference models. The book shows how resilience economy (RE) success depends on multi-sectoral expertise. Timing is also critical to motivating people to participate in resilience, i.e. it would probably be easier to pass during (or just after) a crisis or during efforts to maintain success. RE can be achieved gradually in phases if linked to a country's strategic development cycles that can be translated into policies and programs. This book helps to create the mindset for proper RE environment.

Resilience: A Literature Review

"Building Resilience" has been a primary goal of the Rockefeller Foundation for the past several years in both our initiative work and for the Foundation as a whole. In 2007, the Foundation made its first major multi-million dollar commitment with the announcement of the "Building Climate Change Resilience Initiative", which aimed to boost communities' resilience to the effects of climate change with a focus on poor and vulnerable people across the globe. The initiative framed resilience as "the capacity over time of a system, organization, community or individual to create, alter, and implement multiple adaptive actions in the face of unpredictable climatic changes."

What Resilience Is Not: Uses and Abuses.

A fashionable concept, resilience is now a must in both academic research and management. However, its polysemy nourishes many debates on its uses, heuristics and operational relevance. The purpose of this article is not to bring these debates to a close. Starting from a cross-disciplinary state of the art, we point out the incompatibilities between certain meanings and uses of the term. These inconsistencies raise theoretical issues, leading some researchers to reject the term for that matter, especially those outside the cindynics field. The analysis of the concept also brings out some methodological pitfalls. These are evident when attempting to translate theory into operational terms. Resilience is indeed seen as a promising response to recurrent difficulties in risk management. Nevertheless, it solves them only partially and produces new ones. Lastly, its implementation involves ethical and political risks. The injunction to resilience that seems to prevail internationally is in fact implying a number of moral and ideological assumptions which are not always clearly stated and remain serious issues.

Resilience: the concept, a literature review and future directions

In an ever-more interconnected world (social, technological and environmental), no organisation can retain a competitive position and survive disruptions as an independent entity. This article provides a review of resilience literature in its widest context and later its application at an organisational level context. The origins of the concept are reported and consequently, the various fields of research are analysed. The concept is shown to remain essentially constant regardless of its field of enquiry and has much to inform the fields of organisation theory, strategy and operations management. This article identifies a number of areas for advancing resilience research, in particular: the relationship between human and organisational resilience; understanding interfaces between organisational and infrastructural resilience.

Resilience" as a concept has been re-discovered by many researchers from different disciplines in the last few years as it answers the demands for sustainable dynamical systems and way thinking that need to be addressed to rehabilitate different problems in our world today. This paper reviews the concept of resilience in order to develop from it a proposed mechanism for tackling problems and techniques that would lead to inspiration of the business model of any organization or society. An application of the proposed mechanism is implemented on the Water Supply Service loss and leakages as a challenging problem that is faced usually by most of the water utility and authority companies all over the world, but with varying magnitude, is reviewed. Being a complex business model, going through different challenges in many developed and developing countries, resilience mechanism is applied to identify how to improve the capacity of the system and make it more resilient without increasing its expenditure or affecting it supply stability. The study goes to see how the mechanism of resilience economy, adopted from the literature reviewed, could help to contribute to our understanding of the evolution of such system mechanism if we really to adopt a resilient mindset.
