A new Schiff base complex, Cu(H2L)2 (H3L: 6,6 ′ -((1E,1 ′ E)-((azanediylbis(ethane-2,1-diyl))bis(azanylylidene))bis(methanylylidene))bis(2-methoxyphenol)), through the reaction of ligand H3L with Cu(NO3)2 3H2O, in the ratio of 2 : 1 in methanol solvent was prepared. The obtained ligand (H3L) was characterized by FT-IR, 13C NMR, 1H NMR and elemental analyses. Then its copper(II) complex was prepared and characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, thermal studies, elemental analyses and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray crystallography revealed that the two H3L ligands in bidentate fashion coordinated to one copper center for producing Cu(H2L)2 complex. We used copper(II) Schiff base complex, Cu(H2L)2, for the preparation of CuO nanoparticles via solid-state thermal decomposition. In present study the complexes of the type MLXn, where M= Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II) and X= H 2 O/Cl and L is the schiff base ligand prepared from 2,4-dihydroxy-5-Acetylacetophenone and 1,4-diaminobutane have been synthesized, as they are widely used as chelating ligands in coordination chemistry. All complexes isolated in solid, are stable in air and characterized by the elemental analysis, metal content determination, magnetic measurements, thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), IR, and electronic spectral data. The physicochemical data suggest a pseudo octahedral structure to Cu(II) and an octahedral for Co(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) complexes. The ligand field parameters have been calculated and related to the electronic environment. The Schiff base and its complexes were screened for their antimicrobial activities against various microorganisms.

The chemical preparation, crystal structure and spectroscopic characterization of two new Cu(II) complexes [Cu(ampymo)4](O2CMe)2, ( 1 ) and [Cu(C5H7N3O)2(H2O)3](CH3COO)2, [Cu(ampymo)2(H2O)3](O2CMe)2, ( 2 ) with the monodentate ligand 2-amino-6-methylpyrimidin-4-(1H)-one, (ampymo), are reported. In ( 1 ), the Cu(II) atom is four-coordinated, in a square planar fashion, by nitrogen atoms of four ampymo ligands. In ( 2 ), it is five-coordinated in a square pyramidal fashion by two pyrimidine nitrogen atoms and three water oxygen atoms. The crystal structure of ( 1 ) is stabilized by N H⋯O hydrogen bonds with pillars of the cationic complexes alternating with channels occupied by the acetate anions. In the atomic arrangement of ( 2 ), the complex cations are located parallel to the (a, b) plane between which the acetate anions intercalate by establishing hydrogen bonds with these cations to form a tridimensional network.
