Simulation and Experimental Testing of a PV Panel at Different Operating Conditions
2014
Solar energy is one of multi solutions to solve the problem of high electricity demand growth. This paper focuses on modeling and simulation of solar radiation and photovoltaic system using MATLAB software. Simulation results were compared with experimental work using photovoltaic panel. A good degree of agreement between the experimental and simulation results is achieved. The PV used has 36 monocrystalline silicon cells connected together in series and tested at Cranfield UniversityUK (52 o North) on 17 th July 2014. The simulation results show that power of the proposed model at nominal conditions is 50.5W while the actual PV panel produces 50 W under the same conditions experimentally. Collector tilt angle was taken in account as well. The simulation code can select the optimum tilt angle that gives the maximum solar radiation and extract the maximum power point from P-V characteristics of the PV module.
Investigation of the Effect Temperature on Photovoltaic (PV) Panel Output Performance
International Journal on Advanced Science, Engineering and Information Technology, 2016
The main limit of PV systems is the low conversion efficiency of PV panels, which is strongly influenced by their operating temperature. Lack of accuracy in consideration through PV panel temperature increases the financial risk of system installation. This present study investigates the effects of operating temperature on monocrystalline PV panel at Perlis, Malaysia. A selected model of PV panel firstly was simulated using PVsyst software in order to evaluate its output performance. Meanwhile, PROVA 200 used to measure and record all electrical data for outdoor experimental during the sunniest day. Besides, the thermal distribution was analysed through PV panel temperatures and thermal imaging. Simulation results implied that the output power of PV panel decreases with increasing of its working temperature followed by the efficiency. The experimental results obviously show that the standard test condition (STC) parameters do not represent the real operating conditions of PV panel for outdoor conditions. Less output power was produced affected by the atmospheric factors such as solar irradiance and ambient temperature. These both factors strongly affected the PV panel temperature distribution. In short, the elevating of PV panel temperature contributed to the negative impact on output performance of the panel.

International Journal of Power Electronics and Drive Systems (IJPEDS), 2021
Assorted climatic conditions such as irradiation, temperature and shading due to clouds, trees, buildings, communication towers etc. has an unavoidable impact on the output of solar photovoltaic (PV) system. This creates a need for the analytical performance study of solar PV system in changing atmospheric condition in order to design and install an optimized solar PV system for both, stand alone and grid connected. The present work shows the developed PV model in MATLAB codes and simulation is done under varying climate conditions showing change in irradiation and temperature using different arrangements of PV system. PV parameters are obtained in different setup and I-V and P-V characteristics of the developed model of the PV modules are analyzed. A comparative study of the parameters obtained is quite beneficial for an optimized design of the PV system under different atmospheric conditions.
EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE AND IRRADIANCE ON THE ELECTRICAL PERFORMANCE OF A PV MODULE
Solar cells are the devices, which convert the solar radiation into the electrical energy without effecting the environment . To predict the real behavior of solar cells like changes in maximum power, short circuit current and open circuit voltage by changing the temperature and irradiance can be studied by using the MATLAB (simulation model). In this paper, a single diode MATLAB model is used to study the changes in solar PV module by varying temperature (100C,200C,300C) and by varying the irradiance(400W/m2, 600W/m2, 800W/m2). To study the changes in electrical parameters of a solar PV modules KD330GX-LFB and KD325GX-LFB experimental data sheet are taken and the results are discussed in the conclusion.
The Effect of Ambient Temperature on the Power Output of 5kW Photovoltaic Solar Power System
Future Technology Press, 2017
This paper presents the influence of ambient temperature on 5kW PV-Model depending on recorded data of Dhahran in Saudi Arabia for five months in 2016 and determines the best ambient temperature for the given period according to the power output of the model for each month. Photovoltaic cells are directly affected by temperature, i.e., the power output of the PV cells is dependent on temperature. Its performance is decreased with increase in temperature. This is due to the increase of the electrical circuit resistance with the temperature increase and hence the power output decreases. The study is done using MATLAB/SIMULINK based on KC200GT modified in order to give 5kW output power instead of 200W. Real Data collected from different seasons at Dhahran and applied on the model. The model efficiency is specified according to its performance during the different seasons. Performance of the model showing low efficiency during winter and summer due to the weak radiation and high temperature respectively. Spring season showing the best performance. According to the performance and the power output of the model during different seasons, the best operating temperature is obtained for each month. This will help in cooling process in order to maintain the solar power system working properly during different seasons of the year.

In the early days of photovoltaic panels, some 50 years ago, the energy required to generate a photovoltaic panel was more than the energy the panel could generate during its lifetime. As a result of many years of research and experimental studies with today this time can drop up to 3-4 years according to the incentive policies of the some countries. Only obstacle to widespread adoption of photovoltaic panels is cost of their. Therefore, even small studies on photovoltaic panel have great importance to reduce the cost of photovoltaic panel. One of the most important ones is the panel temperature and environmental effects because these factors are affected the panel temperature. In this study, environmental factors that affect to electricity generation capacity of photovoltaic panels have obtained as detailed style with modeling and simulation is designed by Matlab/Simulink programme. Also, environmental factors is added to the model and is entered the system. In addition to this sit...
INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT Four MATLAB-Simulink models of photovoltaic system
This paper presents four different MATLAB models to simulate the output I-V and P-V characteristics of photovoltaic (PV) cells or systems. All of the models are implemented with Matlab-Simulink. Detailed modeling procedure for one-diode equivalent circuit model with all equations and numerical values is presented. The parameters required for the modeling have been taken from manufacturer's datasheet for 240W SOLIMPEKS solar panel. I-V and P-V characteristics of a typical 1.92 kW PV system have been simulated using the proposed models. The simulation took into account the sunlight insolation and temperature effect. Results of the models are validated with I-V and P-V curves provided by the manufacturer(s). The proposed models are very useful for those interested in working in the field of solar systems because they emulate and analyze the characteristics of all the solar systems easily. 1. Introduction In spite of the fluctuation of sunlight, the energy produced by PV effect is considered the most forefront and essential resources for renewable energies, because of the sustainability and abundance of the sun's energy [1]. PV cells directly convert sun energy into electrical energy by PV effect, without any contamination and environmental impact. These cells are connected in series to form PV string (for raising the voltage) and the strings are connected in parallel to get high current PV module or panel. Arrays are the outcome of a series and parallel combination of PV modules [2]. The output power of solar panel depends mainly on the solar irradiance and the panel temperature. Typically with increasing the PV panel temperature, the current increases slightly while the voltage decreases more than the current. The resultant effect is PV power reduction. The PV generated current is directly proportional to the solar insolation whereas the voltage expose little change [3]. There are three major technologies of PV cells manufacturing. These are Monocrystalline, Polycrystalline, and Thin film technologies. Monocrystalline technology's efficiency ranging from 10% to 15%, while the efficiency of the polycrystalline and thin film technologies range from 9% and 12% [4]. To explore the performance of PV cells and panels, computer based simulation should be adopted. In general, a MATLAB/Simulink is defined as one of the major software among modeling software

The performance of panels for PV system design is determined according to the performance values in standard test conditions specified in the panel catalog, without knowing the performance under actual operating conditions. However, the operating performance of the PV panel depends on meteorological characteristics of place where the PV system is installed. Especially, if outside temperature values are above test conditions, the efficiency of the PV panel decreases and generation losses are observed. In this study, performance parameters of photovoltaic panel were calculated for four different PV panel technologies only by using their catalogue values like NOCT temperature, power-temperature coefficient etc. For this purpose, real working conditions were simulated using 3-year climate data for the meteorological conditions of Sanliurfa, Turkey. In the end, PV panel efficiency, electricity generation values and performance ratios were calculated in accordance with the temperature. Ac...
