A Study to Assess the Physiological and Psychological Changes Among Menopausal Women in Selected Rural Area, Dehradun, Uttrakhand

Background: Menopause is a part of every woman's life. It is the stage when the menstrual period permanently stops. This stage usually occurs between the age of 40 and 60 years associated with hormonal, physical, psychological changes .These changes can occurs can occur gradually or abruptly. It can start as early as the age of 30 and last until as late as the age of 60years. It can also occur when the ovaries are removed or stopped functioning. Symptoms include irregular menstruation, changes in sexual desire, hot flushes, vaginal dryness and urinary problems changes in appearances, mood changes sleep disturbances palpitations and backache. When the body produce less estrogen and progesterone, the parts of the body that depends on estrogen to keep them healthy will react and this often causes the discomfort in women. Aim: To assess the Physiological and Psychological changes among menopausal women in the selected Rural area, Dehradun. Material and Methods: Non-experimental exploratory descriptive survey design (Nonprobability convenient sampling technique) was used for sample selection. Maldevta Raipur village at Dehradun. Participants 150 women's fulfil the inclusion and exclusion criteria selected by convenient sampling technique for the study. Data was collected by two tools section 1) Demographic variables of the participants, 2) Menopause rating scale. Collected data was analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: On analysis, the study revealed that majority of symptoms were dryness of vagina in 98%, Anxiety in 96.7%, Irritability in 96%, Depressive mood in 94%, Joint and muscular discomfort in 88.7%, Sexual problems in 87.3%, Sleep problems in 86.7%, Heart discomfort in 80%, Physical and mental exhaustion in 79.3%, Hot flushes in 52.7% and Bladder problems in 52%. Out of the total 98% samples who had severity of symptoms regarding urogenital (dryness of vagina) .The mean, mean % and SD of menopausal rating scale. The mean percentage for somatic score was 43.96 %, psychological score was 52.38 % and urogenital score was 50.67 %. Therefore overall mean scores of respondents were found to be 21.34, mean percentage 48.5 % with standard deviation 5.67. Out of the eight demographic variables selected for the study only two is found to be significantly associated with the physiological and psychological change i.e, menopausal women. It was found that with severity of symptoms in age group (55-59) and occupation status (housewife), of menopausal women regarding menopause. Conclusion: The finding of the study revealed that the most of the severity of symptoms related to menopause in women's has got positive impact on healthy quality of life.

Menopause is a natural process that occurs in the reproductive cycle of women aged over 40 years. These changes will affect physical and psychological state of a woman, and they are not ready to deal with this condition. Family doctors should provide information about menopause and how to manage various changes during menopause. Psychological experiences of women regarding menopause

Introduction: Menopause is one of the stages of life for women that cause a wide variety of symptoms, effects, and sometimes limitations. Therefore this study aims to describe the psychological symptoms of postmenopausal women. Method: This is a qualitative study using phenomenological method on postmenopausal women in the city of Isfahan. The sampling was at first carried out using simple sampling and later using snowball sampling method. The data gathering tool as interviews carried out in the office of obstetricians and gynecologists. Data were classified using colaizzi's seven stage data analysis method. Results: Various psychological symptoms were reported in the interviews which can be summarized as irritability, aggression, fatigue, feelings of helplessness, and uselessness. Conclusion: During the interviews, postmenopausal women mentioned a variety of psychological symptoms that can cause limitations and hardships and require suitable support and follow-up.

Women's Experiences about Menopause and Related Factors

Introduction: Women’s quality of life following menopause is influenced not only by physical and psychosocial factors, but also by menopause-related concerns, their feelings and attitude and adjustment to menopause. The aim of the present study was to assess women’s experiences after menopause and its related factors. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted in 2016 on 350 menopausal women referred to 12 health centers affiliated to Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. Subjects were recruited using a two-stage sampling method, and data were collected through interview using two questionnaires, including a demographic questionnaire and a valid and reliable questionnaire, the “assessment of women’s experiences in after menopause”. Data was analyzed using Pearson and spearman correlation coefficient, one way ANOVA and multiple linear regression statistical methods. Results: Assessment of women’s experiences in after menopause revealed a total score of 34.9±16.9 percent (Mean±SD). Scores for the domains of women’s experiences in menopause were 42.8±19.3% for physical complications, 34.8±26.4% for negative attitudes, 34.1±27.5% negative feelings, 32.7±19.6% for concerns, 33.2±28.2% for adjustment, and 29.5±24.3% for psychological complications. Duration of menopause was the only predicting factor for total score of women’s experiences in menopause, i.e., with addition of one year to duration of menopause, the total score decreased by 1 point. Conclusion: Duration of menopause was the only predicting factor for the total score of women’s experiences. Future policies and programs for improving quality of life of women after menopause should concentrate on decreasing menopause related physical complications, negative attitudes and feelings, concerns and psychological complications.

Study on menopause and symptoms of menopause in women's life

Menopause is signaled by the last menstrual period, this cessation of menstruation results from a loss of ovarian function. The problem associated with menopause results from the ensuring loss of female sex steroid oestrogen. On average 35% of a women's life is spent in a pre-menopausal or post-menopausal state. Declining oestrogen levelscan give rise to vasomotor symptoms, localized atrophy of genitalia, physiological problems osteoporosis and coronary heart diseases etc. The most common, troublesome symptoms of menopause age include depressive disorders, sleep disorders, sexual dysfunction, discomfort associated with muscle pain, joint aches, osteoporosis and characteristic hot flashes. About 50% women seek help for their symptoms. The hormonal content of a particular hormone replacement therapy regimen is important, alternative options to traditional hormonal replacement regimens include the use of OTC drugs or other prescribed medicines.
