Abstract

This study was designed to investigate the relationships between perceived leadership style and organizational commitment in a public higher education institution in Malaysia. The study established the perceived leadership styles of department heads using the most recent version (Form 5X Short) of the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) developed by Bass and Avolio (2004). In addition, the organizational commitment levels of faculty members were measured using the Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ) developed by Mowday, Steers, and Porter (1979). The sample of this study consisted of 65 full-time faculty members from the Faculty of Management and Economics. Descriptive statistics were calculated to analyze the perceived leadership style and the level of organizational commitment.
