Information Technology has created revolutionary in the field of Library and Information Science. Library housekeeping activities introduced many applications since 1980 onwards. Libraries are applying few techniques to introduce new services to its clients to access, search, and browse through computerized activities like acquisition, automation and OPAC so on. In this context implementation of Library Automation in Colleges particularly in Government First Grade colleges in Karnataka, India. This study shares some of the experiences and an attempt is made to survey and assess the library automation status, problems, prospects and procedures in various Government First Grade College libraries across Karnataka. Status of Library Automation and Networking in Select State Colleges of Himachal Pradesh: A Systematic Literature Review

An academic library is the center of all academic activities of the parent academic institute. An Academic library is the soul of academic institutions and supports the teaching-learning process of the institution for attaining the goals of modern education. As this study is related to knowing the current status of Automation and Networking in select state college libraries of Himachal Pradesh, so this study is revolving around the college libraries. A college library serves an academic fraternity including students and faculties. The importance of a college library and the image of a college librarian depend, not only on the multiple services offered but also on the efficient ways by which the same are provided to the members. The status of a college library depends upon how efficiently the informational needs of its users are being satisfied. The paper presents findings from research into the state of library automation and networking at Himachal Pradesh's state colleges. The study would also look into the kind of computer-based resources and services that libraries make available to their patrons, such as e-journals, e-books, online periodicals, databases, CD-ROM databases, OPAC, OER, and so on. In addition, an assessment of the college libraries' IT infrastructure, staff, and use of library software packages will be conducted in order to better understand the libraries' administrative issues. The current review paper is being presented to discover the state of Automation and Networked based services in select state college Libraries of Himachal Pradesh and how far the users are being satisfied with these services. It is essentially a well-ordered review of papers carried out in the past to realize the state of automation and networked-based service in college libraries all around the world.

Status of library automation in government college libraries of Karnataka, India

The research discussed in the present article deals with the current scenario of automation activities of Government First Grade College (GFGC) Libraries of Karnataka. The findings of this research study include the different issues of colleges and its libraries, principally including automation software, IT infrastructure, barriers of library automation, need for automation training, and others. Further, this study also surveyed the subscription of INFLIBNET N-LIST. The findings of this study will be helpful to frame a policy for the uniform implementation of the library automation project across the entire academic libraries of Karnataka. The study is limited to the GFGC Libraries of Karnataka and cannot be generalized across all the academic libraries of Karnataka. The Google Form was designed to collect the required data to attain the framed objectives of the study. The data was later exported to Excel and were tabulated, analysed, and interpreted. This article is entirely based on the research and the findings will be helpful for the administrators of the Department of the Collegiate Education, researchers, and the faculties of the Department.

Library Automation and an E-Library: College of Natural and Computational Sciences, Gondar

Abstract: This paper discusses the library automation and e-library project of CNCS. It examines the evolution of the University, the planning process and the implementation of library automation and e-library/Internet facilities. The paper looks at different phases to which the project was divided and provides a detailed overview of how each phase was designed and executed which can help librarians make decisions about automation and e-library projects. Few of the challenges encountered are highlighted and solutions proffered. Degree College Libraries and Their Automation Initiatives in Hyderabad Karnataka Region: An Exploratory Survey

The study explores the current infrastructure facilities of degree colleges and their libraries in HK region by district, type, year of the establishment, urban vs. rural; academic programs-UG and PG-Courses offered and coeducation including the teaching, nonteaching staff, and students strength. Also investigates the status of college library buildings; organization of a library into different sections; library staff-professional and supporting, library collection-books, journals, magazines and newspapers, classification and cataloging of books as well as library finance-amount spent for the libraries during 2015-16. Reports the availability of computer hardware, software, and humanware, library automation initiatives, use of library automation packages, and highlights the current picture of library automation activities among the colleges in HK region. Concludes that t he present status of libraries and the library automation initiatives and use of Library Automatio n Softwares packages depicts a bleak picture. Hence, suggests that the Hyderabad Karnataka Regional Development Board (HKRDB), Govt. of Karnataka, must allocate financial resources to overcome this imbalance in the development of college libraries including their automation activities in this region

STATUS OF LIBRARY AUTOMATION AND ICT INFRASTRUCTURE IN PRIVATE AIDED FIRST GRADE COLLEGE LIBRARIES IN BANGALORE CITY

Purpose: The intention of this research paper is to study the status of Library Automation in 23 Private Aided First Grade Colleges in Bangalore City, by collecting data on Library Automation, Library Management Software being used, availability of ICT infrastructure and concern problems. Methodology: A Structured questionnaire, observation and interview were used as tools for the data collection from selected Findings: Majority of the Private Aided First Grade Colleges are undergone NAAC accreditation and accredited colleges are automated using licensed software. Majority of the college libraries are facing the difficulties in lack of funds, skilled staff, and infrastructure. Originality / Value – This study was conducted on Government First Grade College Libraries in Bangalore City but none have surveyed the status of library automation and ICTs in Private aided Colleges in Bangalore Cit. This paper provides statistical data on current status of library automation, types of Library Management software used and its ICTs infrastructure availability. This study also provides statistical data on current status of library automation, type of library software used.

An Investigation of Library Automation Status in Private Aided Colleges of Belagavi, Karnataka

This paper unfolds the status and problems of library automation in aided degree colleges of Belagavi district, Karnataka. The study reveals that 83% of libraries are automated and the remaining libraries are not found to be automated owing to inadequate staff, lack of infrastructure, insufficient funds, lack of training among professional staff etc. This study also depicts the status of the software packages used by libraries and modules used in library automation software. The study finds that out of a total of 24 college libraries, 15(75%) libraries are using proprietary software ‘e-Lib’. The lack of funds for improvements, and lack of facility to implement the improvised software versions are identified as major post automation issues.

Innovative Challenges & Problems of Library Automation in Uttarakhand & Delhi States-A Case Study

This article presents the study of library Automation problems faced by the library staff & users of Delhi and Uttarakhand based Libraries. For this purpose a well structured questionnaires was designed to know the opinions, functions, activities, using of E-resources, behavior, reading habits ,& other different activities done through the E-resources for the staff/users of libraries of UK & Delhi. The result of the survey provides useful information about the automation , information scene and application , utilization & awareness of computer based products & services in the performance of different library operation & function. It has added new dimension in the library services like E-learning , E-library E-books, E-Journals , E-governance etc. There are many problems for maintenance and application of computer based services to the users and staff of the library but the most of all users and staff are interesting to use Electronic resources day to day. This paper also reveals on the basis of the result of the survey , some suggestion have been forwarded for the effective use of different Electronic mode of services and activities in present automated libraries environment in Uttarakhand and Delhi also. INTRODUCTION The application of computer and utilization with the integration of internet technology is affecting all functions of academic libraries. The duty of library professionals is to provide better information service to users. Library automation gives traditionally library to carry out the functions of libraries especially accessing to different library collections , new methods of storage preservation and network at local and national level. Kumar, Krishnam & Shailendra Kumar (1989) 1 reveals in his paper that with the advent of computer the concept of libraries have also changed. Computer and ICT have compelled maximum traditional libraries to change their old pattern and to follow a new system of automation. Revolution cannot be possible at one day. Our country has already made a new era but in comparison with other countries still it is in developing stage. The Library and Information Science profession not only in Uttarakhand but all over India has not been able to attract meritorious students and professionals in teaching and librarianship in comparison to other professional courses. Anil Singh (2016) 2 reveals in his article that since last 15 to 20 years, interest in library profession is declining and it has not been obtain as a first choice as a career by the students. Indeed due to attractive pay and parks, our best talent is attracted towards multinational companies and other private sector jobs and second choice is Government civil services. As I have conducted the survey from LIS professionals in Uttarakhand and Delhi state comparatively. I have been found that mostly joined this profession by chance and not by choice.
