Effects and Perceptions of Mobile Learning in Higher Education

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effect of mobile learning on students’ achievement in the grammar of the Arabic language, and their attitude towards the use of mobile learning. Methods/Analysis: The study was conducted using a quasi-experimental design, case study. The sample comprised 170 students, divided into two groups: an experimental group (n = 87) and a control group (n = 83). An achievement test and a questionnaire were used to collect data, which was analyzed using SPSS. Findings: The findings revealed statistically significant differences between the two groups, with the experimental group showing better scholastic achievement on the test. The results also show that the students of the experimental group were more positive towards mobile learning. The main aim of this research study is to better understand and measure students' attitudes and perceptions towards the effectiveness of mobile learning. This paper reports on the results of a survey of one hundred eighty six undergraduate female students at King Saud University about their attitude and perception to the use of mobile technology in education. An analysis of the quantitative survey findings is presented focusing on the ramification for mobile-learning (m-learning) practices in university learning and teaching environments. The author has attempted to determine how this technology can be optimally used to improve student retention at Bachelor of Art and Medicine programmed at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia. Result of this survey clearly indicate that offering mobile learning could be our method for improving retention of B.A ,and M.D. students, by enhancing their teaching/learning. The biggest advantage of this technology is that it can be used anywhere, anytime and adopt their mobile learning systems with the aim of improving communication and enriching students' learning experiences in their open and distance learning.

A Factors Affecting the Use of Mobile Learning in Higher Education: An Iranian Context

The aim of the present study was to investigate the factors influencing the use of mobile learning in the higher education milieu. The research has used the descriptive survey methodology. The participants in this study were 265 professors at Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, Iran. These participants were chosen randomly. The data were collected by a questionnaire consisting of 42 questions. The questionnaire was developed through a review of existing literature in this field. The reliability of the questionnaire was measured 0/89, using the Cronbach's alpha with SPSS software. To analyze the data and identify the factors, the exploratory factor analysis was run. The results revealed the factors affecting the use of mobile learning in higher education from the perspective of teachers, including technical and technological factors, Attitude factors, personal factors, skills and knowledge factors. The Effect of Teaching by (Mobile Learning) in University Students's Achievement

There have been efforts to investigate the effect of teaching by using mobile learning in university student's achievement. However, studies examining effect of teaching by using mobile learning in university students are, thus far, rare. This study adopted a quasi-experimental design with two types of teaching methods. One research group was assigned to the mobile learning teaching Method (n=25) and the other to the conventional teaching Method (n= 25). A multiple-choice test was developed in Unit introduces technology in course of pre-vocational education technology, Within the Bachelor of pre-vocational education program at Shobak university college. The results showed that the mobile learning teaching method was more effect than the conventional teaching method in the achievement of university students.

This study examines the effect of mobile learning applications on undergraduate students' academic achievement, attitudes toward mobile learning and animation development levels. Quasi-experimental design was used in the study. Participants of the study were students of the Buca Faculty of Education at Dokuz Eylul University in Turkey. The experiment was conducted during the first semester of 2013-2014 academic year. A mobile learning-based strategy was used in experimental group (n = 15), while the control group participated in a lecture-based classroom (n = 26). An attitude scale was used to measure the students' attitudes toward mobile learning, and achievement test was used to examine the effect of mobile learning applications on the students' achievement. In order to evaluate the animations developed by students, a rubric was used. For exploratory analysis, interviews were conducted with students. The findings suggest that mobile learning may promote students' academic achievement. Both groups had significantly high attitude scores toward mobile learning. Furthermore, the students appreciated mobile learning as an approach that may significantly increase their motivation. Researchers and practitioners should take into consideration that mobile learning can create positive impact on academic achievement and performance and increase the motivation of students.

Mobile learning is a new learning landscape that offers opportunity for collaborative, personal, informal, and students’ centered learning environment. In implementing any learning system such as a mobile learning environment, learners’ expectations should be taken into consideration. However, there is a lack of studies on this aspect, particularly in the context of Kuwait higher education (HE) institutions. This study focused on how students perceive the use of mobile devices in learning.
