Performance Analysis And Minimization Of Black Hole Attack In MANET
A Wireless ad-hoc network is a temporary network set up by wireless mobile computers (or nodes) moving arbitrary in the places that have no network infrastructure. Since the nodes communicate with each other, they cooperate by forwarding data packets to other nodes in the network. Thus the nodes find a path to the destination node using routing protocols. However, due to security vulnerabilities of the routing protocols, wireless ad-hoc networks are unprotected to attacks of the malicious nodes. One of these attacks is the Black Hole Attack against network integrity absorbing all data packets in the network. Since the data packets do not reach the destination node on account of this attack, data loss will occur. There are lots of detection and defense mechanisms to eliminate the intruder that carry out the black hole attack. We simulated the black hole attack in various wireless ad-hoc network scenarios and have tried to find a response system in simulations. Keywords -MANET (Mobile...
A REVIEW ON BLACK HOLE ATTACK IN MOBILE AD-HOC NETWORKS (MANET
Security is a major concern for protected communication between mobile nodes in a hostile environment. In hostile environments adversaries can bunch active and passive attacks against intercept able routing in embed in routing message and data packets. In this paper, we focus on Black Hole attack in Mobile adhoc networks. MANET has no clear line of defense, so, it is accessible to both legitimate network users and malicious attackers. In the presence of malicious nodes, one of the main challenges in MANET is to design the robust security solution that can protect MANET from various routing attacks. However, these solution are not suitable for MANET resource constraints, i.e., limited bandwidth and battery power, because they introduce heavy traffic load to exchange and verifying keys. MANET can operate in isolation or in coordination with a wired infrastructure, often through a gateway node participating in both networks for traffic relay. This flexibility, along with their self organizing capabilities, are some of MANET's biggest strengths, as well as their biggest security weaknesses. In this paper different routing attacks, such as active(flooding, black hole, spoofing, wormhole) and passive(eavesdropping, traffic monitoring, traffic analysis) are described.
A Review on some aspects of Black Hole Attack in MANET
A Mobile Ad-Hoc Network is a collection of mobile nodes that are dynamically and arbitrarily located in such a manner that the interconnections between nodes are capable of changing on continual basis. Due to security vulnerabilities of the routing protocols, wireless ad-hoc networks are unprotected to attacks of the malicious nodes. One of these attacks is the Black Hole Attack. The black hole attack is one of the well-known security threats in wireless mobile ad hoc networks. The intruders utilize the loophole to carry out their malicious behaviors because the route discovery process is necessary and inevitable. In this paper we presented a review on few aspects of Black hole attack in MANET's. We have tried to discuss about the reasons why such attacks are seen in mobile ad-hoc networks and performed an analysis on its performance and result on a few of its simulation parameters.
Performance Evaluation and Prevention of Black hole attack in MANET
Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork (MANET) is a collection of mobile nodes which are wireless , self-organized and infrastructure-less where communication between the nodes is through radio waves. Therefore, security becomes a highly challenging issue in MANET's. Malicious nodes in the network may lead to security breach and degrades the performance of the network. In black hole attack, malicious node will advertise itself as having a fresh route towards destination and starts dropping the packets thereby degrading the performance and reliability of the network. In this paper, the performance metrics of a MANET such as Throughput, Packet Delivery Ratio and Packet Loss are evaluated using single and multiple malicious nodes. A fake routing protocol is proposed to prevent black hole attacks imposed by both single and multiple black hole nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol provides better performance in terms of packet delivery, throughput and packet loss in presence of black holes and helps in prevention of black hole attack.
Various Solutions of Black Hole Attack in A mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET)
Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a kind of wireless network that has a number of nodes, these nodes are distributed and connected without dependency on any infrastructure. MANET security has been an important issue since many years, many researchers have concerned in the black hole threat which "announce itself that it has a route to the destination in all cases". There are many solutions have been proposed to encounter these threats, the problem is that the security threats still exist because it is not prevented or avoided completely, in addition the performance of MANET is adversely affected by these solutions, the objective is to find out to what degree it is possible to prevent this attack by these solutions without causing negative effect on efficiency of MANET, so this survey may facilitate developing or proposing more compact idea to encounter security threats. This paper discusses many important solutions that work to detect a black hole node by using different strategies. In this paper, a new strategy proposed but still under testing. https://sites.google.com/site/ijcsis/
A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF BLACK HOLE ATTACK IN MANET
iaeme
A mobile ad-hoc network is an infrastructure less network which consists of a number of mobile nodes that dynamically form a temporary network for the transmission of data from source to destination. Most of the routing protocols rely on the cooperation among the nodes for secure transmission due to lack of centralized administration. Thus the security of MANET is an important concern for all the times. There is no general algorithm for security of principle routing protocols like AODV against commonly known attacks like black hole attack, wormhole attack, rushing attack, etc. In this paper, we survey the different network layer attacks of MANET and compare the existing solutions to combat the single or cooperative black hole attack.
Performance Analysis of Black Hole Attack in MANET NETWORK
MANET is sovereign and decentralized wireless systems. Mobile nodes in a MANETs are free in moving in and out in the network. Due to their self configuration ability these nodes have property to configure themselves.MANETs are not working properly against many types of attack, and black hole attack is one of them. Malicious node shows itself having a valid route to the destination in a black hole attack. An attacker can generate fake information by modifying the packet and, this cause the network traffic diverted or dropped. The performance of MANET's under black hole attack using AODV and OLSR as a routing protocol with Http traffic load will be examined in this research. The performance analysis of AODV and OLSR reactive protocol is evaluated with respect to throughput, end-to-end delay and Packet delivery ratio using OPNET modeler.
Performance Analysis of Mobile Ad-Hoc Network Protocols Against Black Hole Attacks
International Journal of Computer Vision and Image Processing, 2013
Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks also named as MANETs became one of the most preferred wireless networks due to their dynamic nature and their deployment simplicity. Despite of routing protocols, the nature of such networks increased threat of attacks while the MANETs must have a secure way for transmission and communication which is quite challenging and vital issue. One of such popular and effective attacks is the black hole attack. In this attack, a malicious node advertises itself as having freshest or shortest path to specific node and the traffic is redirected to such a node that actually does not exist in the network. In this paper a study of the impact of Black hole attack on the performance of Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks (MANETs) is discussed. This study is based on performing a comparative analysis of Black hole attack in MANET using both Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) and Ad-Hoc on Demand Distance Vector (AODV) to find out which protocol is more vulnerable to the attack and to what...
Performance Evaluation of Black hole Attack in MANET's in terms of Energy and Packet Delivery
INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MERGING TECHNOLOGY AND ADVANCED RESEARCH IN COMPUTING, 2019
Mobile Ad hoc network (MANET) is extensively used now-a-days and it is becoming a prominent research topic. It is also known Wireless Ad hoc network. MANET is mobile multi-hop, infrastructure less network. The data transmission in MANET takes place by using compromising mobile nodes. These mobile nodes are free to move anywhere in a network. In MANET when source node wants to send or transmit data to destination node, first the source node initializes the route towards the destination node and then it forwards the packets through that initialized route. The intermediate nodes help to forward the data packets from source to destination. However, the data transmission in MANET is susceptible, and is affected by many internal or external attacks due to presence of malicious or misbehaving node such as Black hole (BH), etc. The routing security in MANET is becoming a major problem because the routing is affected by malicious or misbehaving node and this may incur the major loss of valuable and confidential data. Black hole attack is the most vital attack on MANET. The aim of this paper is to target the black hole attack under Secure and Efficient Transmission routing protocol (SETRP), detect and remove misbehaving nodes and to analyze the network performance based of some parameters such as Average energy consumption, Network lifetime and Residual Energy. Further, we have evaluated the impact and reflection of black hole attack on the network by using number of mobile nodes and total number of black nodes. The further research can be done by extracting the network parameters and by applying the mitigation technique to avoid black hole attack.

In this paper, we give an algorithmic approach to focus on analyzing and improving the security of AODV, which is one of the popular routing protocols for MANET. Our aim is on ensuring the security against Black hole attack. The proposed solution is capable of detecting & removing Black hole node(s) in the MANET at the beginning. Also the objective of this paper is to provide a simulation study that illustrates the effects of Black hole attack on network performance.
