LITERATURE AN INSTRUMENT OF CHANGE IN SCHOOLS AND THE SOCIETY

The trust of this paper is to examine the subject of concern which is moral decadence amongst school students considering the instrument of Literature in English to amend such decadence; thus looking vividly into the roles of literature in bringing about a better mind. This could be achieved through the provision of various experiences of other cultures, provision of insight into the nature and potentials of man, enhancement of constructive thought on important issues and ideas, development of competency in the use of language and the spirit of creativity. Fifteen item questions was design for the purpose, in addition to reading from some Literature in English books reviewed. The field report from the items revealed that Literature can improve the morals of students as it reflects the thinking patter and prevalence of occurrence in the society. Misconduct and decadence found in the school system amidst students and the society which ranges from; violence, deceit, selfishness, financial embezzlement, all-cultic society, robbery and so on can be ameliorated if the method in which teachers teach literature depicts the morality as found in literary works. Empirical studies reviewed in the paper revealed how Literature in English can be used to minimize, curb and abrogate the miscreants in the school system through the morality it portrays. In view of this, suggestions on how to make literature perform its enviable roles in making a better man are recommended.

INNOVATIONS IN TEACHING LITERATURE: IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF PAST AND PRESENT

Using literature in the curriculum and teaching about literature in the classroom are two existing yet complex areas. To choose literature in the classroom that motivates students to read and that stimulates students to appreciate literature requires knowledge about literature, awareness of students' interests, and facts about exciting instructional approaches that motivate the stimulate interest. Likewise, to teach about literature requires knowledge about literature and knowledge about exciting instructional approaches that encourage understanding of various genres, story structures, and literary elements such as author's style, characterization, and theme. The present paper has discussed Innovative approaches and methods in teaching literature in the classroom and has made a comparison of Past literature teaching and the Present practices and relation between teacher and student. It focused the activities which are conducting while teaching. Present literature is taught by using multimedia and technology immensely. There are so many ways in teaching literature intensively and extensively, they are discussed in the paper. The study has included suggestions for balancing the literature selections, sources for choosing literature, and ways to use literature with activities in classroom students.

The Value of Education in Literature and Relevance for Teaching

This study aims to describe and explain the value of education in literature and how relevant it is for teaching. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Descriptions and explanations lead to circumstances, phenomena and are not limited to data collection but analysis and interpretation of these data. Is the use of ICT overestimated, or is it really an important part of today teaching and learning? Towards Effective Values of Teaching Literature to Secondary School Students

This study aims to investigate the significant role of literature teaching on secondary school students who study English as a foreign language. The subjects of the study consisted of (100) secondary school students(females) .The experiment took place in Omdurman area. The students were chosen from two Sudanese secondary schools in the same area for the academic year 2015/2016. (50) Students out of (100) studied literature for more than six years and the rest (50) students didn't study any literary texts for the same period. A questionnaire was distributed to (30) English teachers, a student test was given to secondary school students and (10) English directors were interviewed for data collection. A statistical analysis was carried out to find out the relation between literature teaching and its role in promoting the students' performance. The data of the study was analyzed by using the statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS). The findings of the study indicated that, there is a positive, statistical significant relation between the study of literature and the standard of the students in English. On the other hand, the students who studied literature scored high marks in a test that contained the same questions and took the same time for both students, compared with those students who didn't study any literary text. That is to say, Literature teaching, affects positively in the acquisition of English language. The study concluded with some recommendations offered to teachers of English language, administrations of secondary schools and for designers of English curricula in order to encourage students to better learning of English through the teaching of literature.

Pedagogical Challenges to Literature: Active and Future Learning

This paper reiterates and recommends the need to adopt innovative instructional approaches and the latest techniques that are believed, will facilitate the teaching and learning of literature in the contemporary scenario. Over the years, there has been an observable shift from traditional teaching techniques to a more creative one. The teaching methods of various subjects have significantly improved as a result of research in pedagogy, emphasising new teaching-learning methods which are acquiring more and more popularity and its inevitability is being felt on a world level. Approaches in Teaching Literature Employed by Senior High School Teachers

Teachers are known to be versatile. They are equipped with different knowledge and skills for them to be prepared in handling the diversity of learners. It is a fact that each day, they are faced with this challenge as each learner is noted to be unique. Thus, they have different ways of how they should be taught in school. One of the challenges being encountered by educators is on maximizing students' comprehension, especially on literature subjects. Therefore, different approaches have been proposed to accommodate the needs of every learner when it comes to studying literature. This study aimed to analyze the process of teaching and learning of literature among senior high school teachers based on the K to 12 Curriculum for the English subject. Specifically, it sought to find out the teaching learning activities being conducted by the four senior high school literature teachers. It also looked into the teaching approaches mostly preferred by the four senior high school literature teachers. As an offshoot of this study, an instructional module for literature was designed. The study utilized both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. The questionnaire, classroom observation, and interview schedule were used to answer the research questions. This study was limited to the approaches in teaching literature employed by selected senior high school teachers who were handling literature subjects in senior high school in the second district of Ubay, Bohol. The aforementioned findings led the researcher to conclude that the ultimate goal in learning literature is to let the students appreciate its content by using a variety of approaches gleaned from the teaching techniques used by the teachers. Thus, an instructional module was designed to enhance learning by applying the different approaches in teaching literature. This book will serve as a guide to Senior High School literature teachers for them to use varied approaches in teaching the subject for the enhancement of learning. It is recommended that a variety of strategies may be used by teachers in teaching literature to develop not only the cognitive but also the affective and psychomotor domains.

Effective Strategies to Teach Literature for Higher Education

Literature and culture are two elements that cannot be separated as overall general knowledge. Thus, it is evident that EFL learners are suggested to learn literature and study it when learning English as a foreign language. This is due to the reason that literature can be used as motivating material that is represented in the value listed in the story. Clearly, literature is able to provide EFL students access to other people whose language they are studying. Unfortunately, research shows that teachers in high school find it difficult and seems boring to teach literature in the EFL classroom. Thus, this paper is aimed to show several strategies that EFL teachers might use to teach literature in their classroom as part of a genre-based approach application. The strategies are divided into pre-activity, whilst-activity, and post-activity.
