The Impact of Social Media on Literature

Literature is one of society's broad and significant elements because it shows how people interact and socialize. The objective of literature is education and entertainment through songs, poems, stories, and drama. However, a challenge that limits production and access to literary content is media. Traditionally, media used to convey literature material, such as books, television, radio, and theatres were limited to people who could afford or access venues. Consequently, the spread of literary content was limited to specific areas. However, media and information technology advancement has created a paradigm shift in the production and dissemination of literary content. This research evaluated the effects of media advancement in enhancing literature's production, dissemination, and consumption. Importantly, this research will explain the types of media technology and how they affect literature. Literature has experienced changes because media provides advanced methods of producing and disseminating literary content. There is a significant difference between literature produced during the Elizabethan era and the industrialization period and those produced in the digital age. Writing technology was the earliest approach to generating literature, and this has evolved into digital technology that generates audiovisual content. Media has also influenced the globalization of literature by enabling access to literary works across countries and cultures. Media technology has simplified the production of literature and provided digital channels for showcasing literary work, making digital a significant contributor to social and economic development. Media development has supported advancement in literature.

Literary Internet: Online Criticism and Literary Communication

This article is devoted to the transformations that literary communication has undergone on the Internet. The author describes how literary criticism and its role in the digital medium has changed, indicates the deep cultural changes resulting from the development of forms of communication in social media, and characterizes how the Internet has transformed literature. New media has given rise to new literary genres; it has also altered literature itself, recasting it in a hybrid form on the border between the literature and audiovisual media. The ongoing changes do not pose a threat to printed literature, but are an expression of the strength of the Internet’s impact on literary communication and its participants. It is necessary to refrain from easy evaluations of the ongoing processes and to focus on accurately describing, analyzing and interpreting them as a new and relatively unknown part of the expanding literary field.

Birth of a Paradigm: Digital Technology and Its Effect on Literary Studies

Digital technology is changing the landscape of literary studies. In essence, the proliferation of computer technology and hypertext is forcing literary scholars to look at how the expanded role of the visual in our society is influencing the way we read and disseminate texts, especially hypertexts, while they also come to a better understanding of the role of the reader in a digital environment and the overall value of electronic literature. Literature and Media: A Closer Look at Literature through a Social Networking Application

Today, traditional literacy habits are changing with various technological tools in digital environments. Social reading platforms are one of these innovations and changes. These networks are widely used in the world and in Turkey. The application 1000Kitap, the largest book reader network in Turkey, is one of these social networks. In this study, the opinions of pre-service teachers who review the books they read on this application, their attitudes towards reading and writing, and the contributions of this application to pre-service teachers were examined. The study was conducted with fifty-five Turkish pre-service teachers within the scope of the world literature course in the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. In the study, it was aimed to examine in detail the views of pre-service Turkish teachers on the 1000Kitap application by using mixed method. The quantitative dimension of the research is a survey model that tries to describe the existing situation as it is. In the quantitative dimension of the study, survey technique, one of the data collection techniques of this model, was used. In the qualitative dimension of the study, a case study, one of the qualitative research methods, was conducted. The qualitative data used in the study were obtained from a semi-structured interview form. It was found that the attitudes of the pre-service teachers who examined the work they read in the 1000Kitap application, made quotations, and shared their opinions were at a high level; their opinions about the application were very motivating and useful in terms of interaction and sharing; the application increased their reading motivation and contributed to the opportunity to see different perspectives.

New Practices of Reading, Writing, Cognizing and Thinking in the Era of Internet Literature

This paper scrutinizes how Roland Barthes’ notion of Text can be reinter¬pre¬ted in the Inter¬net era. Barthes' “From Work to Text” is the main theoretical piece on which the ar¬ticle’s theoretical framework is grounded. Geoff Ryman's 253: or Tu¬be Theat¬re is taken to serve as the example for Internet hypertext literature, and is exa¬mined vis a vis Barthes' conceptualizations and ideas. The essay starts with a brief discussion on the nature of Internet literature in re¬la¬tion to that of print literature. This discussion consists of ‘the transition pe¬riod’ spi¬rit in literature, and the advantages of Internet publishing. The essence of this part is about how traditional paper-based print literature is endangered by on¬li¬ne publishing. After the section on the new literature style come the analysis of Barthes' “Text” and the application of his theories on 253. In this analysis, Barthes' text is ‘des¬tructed’ into three metaphors: the metaphors of Text as the sea, the network and the game. Analysis of 253 according to Barthes follows the same order as quo¬ta¬tions from Barthes. After the comparative analysis of “From Work to Text” and 253, the paper fo¬cuses on the contributions of 253 in the framework of the old questions of li¬te¬ra¬tu¬re. These questions include collaborative authorship, Internet readership, self-ref¬lexivity and fundamental authorship.

FUSION OF LITERATURE AND SOCIAL MEDIA: FACT OR FICTION

The social media today have not only changed our lives, but also altered people's understanding of what can be considered today as a good piece of literature. The new realities offer online poetry, twitter short stories and graphic novels. Do they really have such huge impact on the world of canonical literature in number of surprising ways, thus creating also new reading and teaching realities? This paper analyses not only the new trends in writing and teaching literature of the 21st century but also, opens other inciting questions, such as does it really mean that literature cannot be considered an artistic form with profound aesthetic value if it does not comply with the expected norms imposed by a literary canon? Therefore, the avant-garde notions presented in this paper contribute to the development of the quintessential contemporary literary significance in terms of adding to its diversity and range.

A Reciprocal Intercommunication between Reader and Writer: A Critical Study of Cyber Literature

Since the accessibility of the internet, cyber literature can be an act of bringing ease, evolving preferences and mindsets. This research may be a survey focused on the opinions of the respondents on the nature of social media cyber literature; of its gain and effect on the reader. This research is limited to the collective poems on Facebook. The logic is simple; the shortened version is preferred. Poetry is more likely to be used for the interpretation of reader-writer interactivity in cyber literature. The technique is the literary theory of reader reaction with attention to Facebook's reader-writer personalization. The objectives of this article were to expose the impetus of audiences to react to the submitted text, the reasons why they really like, and what its benefits are. The findings showed that cyber literature is effective in implementing a substitute writing style that also improves writers' enthusiasm and imagination to make use of the digital content.

Literature and the Internet

The invention of the Internet has revolutionized the information and communication systems. This results in several innovations in all domains of life including teaching and learning, reading and writing, both creative and critical. This article is an attempt to familiarize the readers with electronic literature especially different genres of e-fiction. In this attempt the author explains concepts like writing space, writing self, writing subject, hypertext fiction, collaborative fiction, interactive fiction and so on. The interconnectedness of space and Internet is also explained at the beginning of the article.

Exploring electronic literature as a ‘Curtain Raiser’ genre in literature in the age of new Millennium

With the advent of Electronic literature in the new millennium, the field of literature experiences a significant upheaval. In order to mark the beginning of a new age in literary expression, this study will investigate Electronic writing as a "curtain raiser" genre. This study explores how Electronic literature challenges conventional ideas of textuality, authorship, and reader interaction by examining its features, forms, and consequences. This research examines how Electronic literature influences modern literary discourse by utilising a variety of multidisciplinary viewpoints, such as literary theory, digital humanities, and cultural studies. The works of important authors, such as Chris Joseph, Mark Z. Danielewski, Kate Pullinger, Michael Joyce, Shelley Jackson, and Brian Kim Stefans, offer conceptual foundations for comprehending the distinctive characteristics of Electronic literature and its connection to more general cultural and technological changes. This paper demonstrates how the spirit of exploration and creativity in the digital age is embodied in Electronic literature. It is also evident that Electronic literature enhances and challenges our knowledge of reader-author connections, interactivity and storytelling. This study attempts to shed light on the relevance of Electronic literature as a trailblazing genre that influences the literary landscape of the twenty-first century by examining its consequences within the framework of modern literary theory and cultural studies. By looking at these issues, the research advances our knowledge of how digital technology may change the way that literature is expressed and how storytelling is changing in the new millennium.
