Comparative Evaluation of The Type of Sealer Used For Obturation of Single Visit Root Canal Treated Maxillary and Mandibular Posterior Teeth- A Retrospective Analysis

Single visit root canal therapies are indicated when no periapical changes are appreciated. The final stage of the root canal treatment deals with the filling of the canal system with a biocompatible material. Obturation comprises a core filling material and a sealer. The study aimed to evaluate the type of sealer used for obturation of posterior teeth treated in a single visit and to correlate the sealer use with factors like tooth, gender and operator qualification. The study was a retrospective analysis. A total of 86,000 case sheets were reviewed and necessary data was extracted. The type of sealer used for the obturation was assessed and tabulated along with details like age, gender and tooth. The data was exported to IBM SPSS Software 20. Ability of Three Endodontic Sealers to Fill the Root Canal System in Association with Gutta-Percha

Introduction: The present study compared the ability of the endodontic sealers AH Plus, Pulp Canal Sealer and EndoREZ to fill the root canal system in association with gutta-percha. Methods: Ninety mandibular premolars were accessed, prepared and divided into three groups of 30 teeth each, according to the sealer used to fill the canals: AH Plus, Pulp Canal Sealer and EndoREZ. All the teeth were filled using the continuous wave of condensation technique. The specimens were then decalcified, dehydrated, rendered transparent, and analyzed by three independent evaluators with 8x magnification. Chi-squared test (χ2, p < 0.05) was used to compare the groups in relation to the totally filled, the partially filled and the non filled ramifications. A Comparative Evaluation of Apical Sealability of Various Root Canal Sealers Used in Endodontics

Objective: One of the major reasons for root canal failure is microleakage through the apex. There are various types of root apex sealers being used in endodontic practices with varying rate of clinical success. This study was planned to evaluate the sealing ability of Zinc oxide eugenol based, Calcium hydroxide based, resin based and tricalcium based root canal sealers using dye penetration method. Material and Methods: It was an experimental study with randomized control trial. Fifty (50) extracted incisors were prepared for root canal obturation. The apical enlargement up to K file 25 was done using stepback technique and resto of the canal was flared up to K file 60.Sodium Hypochlorite was used as irrigant. After instrumentation, the 40 teeth were obturated using various sealers and 10 were obturated without any sealer followed by lateral condensation technique. Prepared samples were divided into four groups (10 teeth each with one of the sealers) of experimental study and two groups (5 teeth each without sealer) for control. 45 samples were coronally sealed with sticky wax and surface coated with nail polish leaving apical 2 mm. Among samples obturated without a sealer, 5 were coronally sealed with sticky wax but surface treated to the full length of the root. All the samples were then assessed for 2% methylene blue dye penetration test. Results: Inter group comparison showed that samples apically obturated with tricalcium phosphate sealer performed the best sealing ability as compared to other ones used in the study. Conclusion: No sealer used in this study perfectly seals apex.

Comparison of the Root End Sealing Ability of Four Different Retrograde Filling Materials in Teeth with Root Apices Resected at Different Angles - An Invitro Study

Insufficient apical seal is the significant reason for surgical endodontic disappointment. The root-end filling material utilized should avoid egress of potential contaminants into periapical tissue. The aim of this study was to compare the sealing ability of four root-end filling materials MTA, Portland cement, IRM, RMGIC in teeth with root apices resected at 0 and 45 angle using dye penetration method under fluorescent microscope. Hundred extracted human maxillary anterior teeth were sectioned horizontally at the cement-enamel junction. After cleaning, shaping and obturation with gutta-percha and AH Plus sealer, the tooth samples were randomly divided in two groups (the root apices resected at 0° and 45° to the long axis of the root). Evaluation of Apical Sealing Ability of Three Different Root Canal Sealers

Aim: Evaluation of apical sealing ability of Resilon with Epiphany sealer, gutta-percha with AH plus sealerand gutta-percha with MTA fillapex sealer using dye penetration method. Introduction – Success of root canal treatment highly depends of three dimensional obturation of the root canal system. Solid core gutta percha and sealers is preferred method of obturation of the root canal system. None of the available method are capable of providing a fluid tight seal. Material and Methods: Thirty freshly extracted single rooted premolars were taken and randomly divided into three groups. These teeth were then obturated using following methods. Group I-gutta-percha with AH plus sealer, Group II-gutta-percha with MTA fillapex sealer, Group III-Resilon with Epiphany sealer. All specimens were stored in 100% relative humidity for 48hrs. The teeth were then stored in Rhodamine-B dye for 24hrs and then were sectioned and observed under stereomicroscope. Results: Data obtained was analysed using Mann whiteny 'u' test.There was statistically significant difference among the groups. Group III showed minimum dye leakage and group II showed maximum dye leakage. Comparison of Two Root Canal Filling Techniques: Obturation with Guttacore Carrier Based System and Obturation with Guttaflow2 Fluid Gutta-Percha

Introduction: The aim of the present study was to compare the quality of the root canal obturation obtained with two different techniques, i.e., thermoplastic gutta-percha introduced through a carrier (GuttaCore) and fluid gutta-percha (GuttaFlow2). Materials and Methods: The study included 40 permanent single-rooted human teeth, divided into two groups and obturated with Guttaflow (group G) and with GuttaCore (group T). The teeth were fixed and transversely sectioned, they were examined by scanning electron microscopy. The dentin–cement–gutta–percha interface and the percentage of voids produced by the two techniques were statistically analyzed. Results: GuttaCore showed a better filling in the apical third of the canal with a percentage of voids equal to 5%. GuttaFlow showed a lower percentage of voids in the middle and coronal thirds of the canal, 1.6% of coronal voids. Comparative evaluation of the apical sealing ability among different root canal obturation techniques and endodontic sealers by using fluid filtration method: A systematic review

Introduction: The target of many experimental studies was to appraise the sealing ability of the root canal filling materials. No systematic reviews are available to appraise such condition. The aim of current review is to appraise the sealing ability of different root canal obturation techniques and sealers using fluid filtration method. Materials and Methods: Two automated databases (Google Scholar and PubMed using English-language literature) were used for this systematic review, using specific keywords together with inclusion & exclusion standards. In December 2018, such investigation was carried out & in March 2019, it was updated. Results: Search detected twelve studies that achieved the present inclusion and exclusion criteria. These studies illustrated different aspects of apical sealing, including: sealing ability, obturation techniques, sealer types, and updating studies in fluid filtration evaluation method. Conclusions: AH Plus had the best sealing ability over all sealers with different obturation techniques when evaluated by fluid filtration device and more investigations should be performed regarding that.

Comparison of Adaptability of Three Different Root Canal Obturation Materials

Objective: The aim was to evaluate and compare the adaptability of the three obturation materials: gutta-percha, GuttaFlow, and Soft-Core to the root canal walls. Materials and methods: Totally 30 mandibular premolar teeth were selected. The teeth were standardized and prepared with ProTaper rotary files. The teeth were randomly and equally divided into three groups-gutta-percha group: obturated with gutta-percha and AH Plus sealer using lateral compaction technique; Soft-Core group: obturated using Soft-Core system; and GuttaFlow: obturated with GuttaFlow. The roots of the teeth were sectioned at three levels (apical, middle, and coronal) and were observed under a stereomicroscope at 40× magnification. Area of voids (AVs), frequency of voids, and location of the voids were analyzed using image analysis software. Results: The lowest mean of AV was obtained by GuttaFlow 1.25% ± 1.93, followed by gutta-percha 1.33% ± 2.16, and Soft-Core 1.74% ± 2.23. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference among the three groups and the levels of the root. The frequency of voids in the coronal and the middle levels was more than the apical for all groups. The highest frequency of voids was detected in Soft-Core, followed by GuttaFlow and gutta-percha respectively. The voids were located in the interphase between sealer and obturation material as well as sealer and root canal walls in the gutta-percha and Soft-Core groups, whereas it was almost confined to the core for GuttaFlow group. Conclusion: GuttaFlow has a better adaptability to the walls compared with Soft-Core system and laterally compacted gutta-percha with AH Plus sealer. Clinical significance: GuttaFlow is an appropriate obturation material to enhance endodontic treatment.

A Comparative Evaluation of Endodontically Treated Root Canals Obturated Using Gutta-percha with Two Different Protocols: An In-vitro Study

Objective: The aim of this article is to evaluate the quality of filling in endodontically treated root canals using the lateral condensation technique and modified lateral condensation technique. Materials and Methods: Thirty-two single-rooted teeth were divided into two groups that were assigned by simple randomization according to the filling technique. Once the endodontic treatment was performed, a periapical radiograph was taken to assess the quality according to the radiographic density and tomography was taken to evaluate the quality according to the tomographic volume of spaces, compared with the post-preparation biomechanical tomography. Finally, we performed a statistical analysis (Student’s t-test) to evaluate whether there were differences between the types of filling.
