Comminution test methods used within mineral processing have mainly been developed for selecting the most appropriate comminution technology for a given ore, designing a grinding circuit as well as sizing the equipment needed. Existing test methods usually require comparatively large sample amounts and are time-consuming to conduct. This makes comprehensive testing of ore comminution behavior – as required in the geometallurgical context – quite expensive. Currently the main interest in the conduct of comminution test lies in the determination of particle size reduction and related energy consumption by grindability test methods, which provide the necessary information about mill throughput. A developed approach based on grinding time to determine ore comminution properties

In this paper, iron ore sample from the Chadormalu was investigated to determine some comminution properties. Chadormalu deposit is one of the largest iron ore mine in Iran, which is located in Yazd province. The representative ore sample contained 57%Fe, 0.9%P and 0.17%S. The sample was crushed; afterward, it was ground in various grinding times according to the Bond Ball mill approach to specify the work index values. Based on different grinding times and the obtained results, a new work index equation was then simulated through which grinding time was considered as the main variable. The relationships between work index, the work input and P80 were then concluded. In addition, the results of tests were then used to estimate the selection function parameter. Unveiling the Link between the Third Law of Comminution and the Grinding Kinetics Behaviour of Several Ores

As a continuation of a previous research work carried out to estimate the Bond work index (wi) by using a simulator based on the cumulative kinetic model (CKM), a deeper analysis was carried out to determine the link between the kinetic and energy parameters in the case of metalliferous and non-metallic ore samples. The results evidenced a relationship between the CKM kinetic parameter k and the grindability index gbp; and also with the wi, obtained following the standard procedure. An excellent correlation was obtained in both cases, posing the definition of alternative work index estimation tests with the advantages of more straightforward and quicker laboratory procedures.
