Green Banking In India: Problems and Prospects

Green banking is different from traditional banking, as green banking focus on promoting environment friendly banking. Green banking is also known as ethical banking. This paper attempts to analyze the adoption of green banking products among customers with different age groups. ANOVA and post hoc tests are applied for analyzing the objectives. This paper finding explains that there is significant difference in the usage of green banking products across various age groups individuals, as young generation is more inclined towards green banking products than middle age and senior age groups. Therefore, more awareness is need to be created among the middle and senior age groups individuals.

Effectiveness of Green Banking Initiatives -A Special Reference Towards Public Sector and Private Sector Banks in Tamilnadu

The adoption of green banking initiatives has many dynamics. The green banking initiatives focus on promoting environment friendly banking in the society. This paper attempts to analyse the effectiveness of green banking initiatives among the customers with different age groups. ANOVA and "t" test are applied for analyzing objectives. This paper finding explains that the different initiatives of green banking across the various age group individuals, as young generation is more inclined towards green banking initiatives than the various marital status groups. Therefore, more awareness of green banking initiatives to be created by the young generation of the customers. Green banking means encouraging environmental-friendly exercises and reducing carbon footprints from the banking undertakings. Green Banking is a new way of conducting the banking business by considering hygienic environmental issues. Green banking is different from traditional banking, as green banking focuses on promoting environment-friendly banking. Environmental-friendly practices include the introduction of green products and services viz. Online Banking, Mobile Banking, Banking through ATMs, Green Deposits, Green Mortgages and Loans, Green Credit Cards, and Green Reward Checking Accounts. This paper attempts to analyse the influence of green banking products on the people of Ahmedabad city. ANOVA and chi-square tests are applied for analysing the significant relation difference between the key demographic factors of respondents and their opinion about switching over to green banking products.

Customer's Intention to Use Green Banking Products: Evidence from Sri Lanka

Abstract- In recent years, both academics and banking professionals are paying more attention towards the green banking concept due to its significant influence on environment management in banking context. In Sri Lanka, People’s bank adapted to the green banking practices in 2015 with YES savings accounts as the first state sector bank which introduced the green banking products to their customers. Even though there are so many convenient facilities and benefits available with green banking in People’s Bank since 2015, the problem is that there is a less customers’ intention to use these green banking products. Thus this study aims to investigate factors affecting for the customers’ intention to use green banking products in people’s Bank. Data were collected by distributing a structured questionnaire among the sample of 371 customers in People’s bank in Kandy branch. Customers’ purchase intention has been considered as the dependent variable and green product awareness, green product trust, green product image, green benefits, green perceived value and green product security & privacy have been considered as independent variables. The results indicate that there are significant positive effects of green product awareness, green product benefits, green perceived value and green product privacy & security on the customers’ intention while there are significant negative effect of green product image and green product trust on the customers’ intention to use green banking products in People’s bank. The Indian banking sector is the strongest mediator between economic growth and environmental stability. Globally, all the countries are focusing their attention in strengthening economic activities and all the citizen of the country are contributing in growth of the economy. Today, we can see implementation of green banking activities in the banking sector has been a huge topic. Along with this, customers can also be made aware about green banking products. Green Banking is a new pattern of banking from which using online banking alternatively branch banking and Paying bills online alternatively mailing them to banks. In the Green Banking concept, the bank fulfills the social and environmentally responsibility along with making optimum use of natural resources like a normal bank. Green banking is the strongest pillar of economy in a country. It is also known as ethical activities bank and The present study proposes studies the impact of green banking and explore new pattern of green banking, viz. green product development , green corporate social responsibility , brand image and goodwill. As providers of finance, banks can ensure that businesses adopt eco-friendly activities. Incentives by way of offering cheaper funds for adopting green technologies will have a long term beneficial impact on the environment. As major implementers of technology, banks themselves can adopt green practices and thereby lead the way in this global initiative. Also, product and service innovations and leveraging on the use of technology enable banks and their customers today to reduce the usage of resources such as paper, thereby aiding in environmental protection. Offering cheaper funds for adopting green technologies will have a long term beneficial impact on the environment. As major implementers of technology, banks themselves can adopt green practices and thereby lead the way in this global initiative. The paper gives an insight into the green banking activities of the Indian banking institutions and the awareness level of customers on these initiatives and their preference on these green banking activities.
