The current global food challenge necessitates the need to increase agricultural production. Farmers' innovative mindset is unavoidable for successful and sustainable agriculture. Precision agriculture, through novel technology like big data, is an effective solution that can exponentially increase agricultural productivity and quality. Innovativeness among food growers is a significant determinant for adopting new technologies. For this reason, the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) technique was used in this research to construct a reliable and valid instrument that measures innovativeness. Data was collected from small-scale farmers in Terengganu, Malaysia. The questionnaire was developed on a scale of one to ten. With the help of IBM SPSS Statistics version 25.0, the EFA was carried out using the principal component extraction method with Varimax Rotation. The study assessed Bartlett's Test of Sphericity and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) to determine the adequacy of the sample. Bartlett's test revealed a significant result (0.000), and the KMO value was excellent (0.726). The findings of the EFA revealed two components and eight items with Cronbach's Alpha values of more than 0.7, all of which were found to be significant. As a result, the results demonstrated the instrument's accuracy and dependability. This research contributes to developing items that assess innovativeness in the context of small farming in Malaysia.

This article aims to study the attitude factors affecting the intention to use agricultural technology in the production of rice by farmers in Nong Khai province through a technology acceptance model based on structural equation analysis. Nong Khai, one of the provinces located in Thailand's northeastern region, has the largest rice production area. The area is suited for agriculture due to its proximity to significant water sources, such as the Mekong River. In this research, data were collected from a group of rice farmers in Nong Khai Province to study the readiness of the sample group that affected the intention to use Amino-KP 2 instead of chemical fertilizer. It was found that there was the highest level of acceptance or intention to use an interpretation of the meaning. The results of all hypothesis testing showed that optimism and interest in innovation influence perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. The perceived usefulness factor was hindered by the insecurity variable, while the perceived ease of use factor was unaffected. Additionally, the discomfort of using technology hindered the perceived ease of use factor, but the perceived usefulness remained unaffected. The perceived ease of use factor was also found to have a positive influence on the perception of usefulness. Perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use both had a positive influence on the intention to use Amino-KP 2.
Development of a Scale to Measure the Attitude towards Innovation Use in Rice Farming
Asian Journal of Agricultural Extension, Economics and Sociology, 2023
This study elucidates the entire methodology adopted for the development of a scale to measure farmers' attitude towards innovation use (AIU) in rice farming. To measure the attitude of farmers towards innovation use in rice farming, a comprehensive list of 30 statements was developed by thoroughly reviewing the literature available and modifying some items from pre-existing scales. The items for this Likert-type scale were developed following the criteria put forward by Edwards and Kilpatrick (1948). These items were subjected to a thorough sorting process in consultation with domain experts and 19 statements were finally selected for the measuring instrument to be developed. These items were sent to judges for expert content evaluation. Based on the content validity index score for items and modified Kappa statistic, 15 statements were finally selected to constitute the proposed scale. The internal consistency check using Chronbach's alpha was used to ensure the reliability of the proposed scale, and a value of 0.88 was obtained, indicating higher reliability. The standardized scale has practical applicability in measuring the attitude of farmers towards innovation use in rice farming.
