ISSUES IN WORK LIFE BALANCE AND ITS IMPACT ON EMPLOYEES: A LITERATURE REVIEW
Issue relating to work-life balance are increased in present scenario. Equal balance in both work and personal life plays an important role for attaining personal as well as professional / organizational goals. The imbalances have a negative impact in both personal life and professional life, Thus, maintaining an adequate balance between professional and personal life is very important. Well-being state of a person allows him / her to manage multiple responsibilities effectively at work and at home. The aim of this paper is to understand firstly the concept of work life balance, the importance and issues affecting in various professions and finally to find out the influence of Work Life Balance on various aspects like physical, occupational, emotional, social, spiritual and environmental well-being of employees. Achieving a better work-life balance yields more dividend for both employees and employers in terms of being more motivated towards work which leads to increased productivity and ultimately creating workforce which they feel are valued.

The essentiality of embracing Work-Life Balance (WLB) strategies is indispensable for every class of employees. The increasing number of Dual Income Single Kid (DISK) couples and members from nuclear families at organizations has made WLB practices all the more necessary. There has been an increasing interest in WLB in the recent past for all professions and its significance is now focused by many organizations. The days are gone where WLB was restricted only to certain fields but now the situation has completely changed. People of all strata irrespective of their professions (employers, employees, professionals, home makers…) struggle hard to manage a good WLB. This study has analyzed various reviews on WLB for diverse professions (IT, Hotel, Hospital, Finance, Academics …) and given suggestions for a balanced life.

In the current economic scenario, organisations are hard pressed for higher productivity and need employees with improved work-life balance as an employee with better work-life balance will contribute more meaningfully towards the organizational growth and success (Naithani and Jha, 2010). For the present study descriptive method is used. The sample was drawn from male and female customer associates working in retail stores of Chandigarh city, and their ages were in the range of 25-35. The sample of 50, i.e. 25 male and 25 female was drawn using purposive sampling procedure. For the present investigation the data has been collected in two ways i.e. primary data and secondary data. Work life balance scale is used in the present study, developed by Fisher (2001). Work life balance is a seven point scale, ranging from 1-7, containing 15 items, designed to assess three dimensions of work life balance, namely, work interference with personal life (WIPL-7 items), personal life interference with work (PLIW-4 items), and work/personal life enhancement (WPLE-4 items). It has been observed that females feel highly work interference with their personal life and personal life interference with work as compared to male's customer associates. It has also been revealed that females feel low work/personal life enhancement as compared to males. Significant difference has been found between males and females customer associates towards their work life balance.

Employees are facing so many challenges and issues due to imbalance created in their professional and personal life. For the attainment of personal and professional goals one should look forward to work life balance. Personal and professional life gets affected due to poor work life balance. Thus, attainment of work life balance is essential for employees. Professional and personal well-being state of an employee allows him / her to justify various role demands effectively at workplace and in personal life. This paper aims to understand the concept of work life balance, the utility and issues affecting it in various professions and finally to identify the impact of Work Life Balance on various aspects like physiological, professional, psychological, emotional and societal well-being of an employees. For better outcomes like increasing efficiency and effectiveness of an employee, also the motivation among employees it is very important to set the goals of work life balance which will again beneficial for employees and employers.

To achieve one's goals in order to have financial, emotional, and mental stability frequently forces one to dive into trouble. Family responsibilities, self-esteem, self-independence, and belongingness all become entangled, resulting in inter-role conflict, confusions, and mental distress, ultimately leaving the person unsatisfied and depressed. Work- life balance issues are becoming more prevalent in today's world. Achieving personal as well as professional / organizational goals depends on maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal life. Maintaining a proper balance between one's work and personal lives is crucial because imbalances have a detrimental effect on both the former and the latter. A person who is in a healthy state may effectively manage a variety of obligations at home and at work. The objective of this paper is to first comprehend the idea of work-life balance, its significance and problems in different professions, and then to determine how work-life balance impacts one's physical, economic, psychological, societal, spiritual, and environmental wellbeing of employees. Achieving a better work-life balance advantages both individuals and employers because it increases motivation at work, which boosts productivity and, in turn, produces a workforce that feels appreciated. The demand for work-life-balance solutions by nonteaching staff and managers is expanding at an unprecedented rate. As a result, work-life balance is an increasingly hot topic in boardrooms and government halls today. Over the coming decade it will be one of the most important issues that executives and human resource professionals will be expected to manage. This study provides the methods for you to accelerate the implementation of a very successful work-life strategy within your organization. The study is to examine the factors influencing non teaching staff towards work-life balance at various Self Financing Engineering Colleges in Madurai, Tamilnadu. The researcher carried out the study with descriptive research. Simple random sampling using lottery method was adopted to choose the respondents with the sample size of 150 for the study. Top three self financing engineering colleges in Madurai City -Tamilnadu were taken for the study and due to various reasons the name of the colleges are not disclosed in the research. 50 respondents were taken from each college. Using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) some of the relevant research tools were administered 1) Factor Analysis 2) Multiple Regression and 3) Reliability Test. Based on the test results some of the relevant findings are derived that will be significant to present Indian scenario.

Work–life balance is a broad concept including proper prioritizing between “work” (career and ambition) on one hand and “life” (Health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development) on the other. The present research deals with work life balance of the employees of different organisation from Surat district to check the relationship between work life balance & employee productivity. There are many reasons for imbalance like Global economy, longer working hours, international business e.t.c. the employees need to prioritize their personal & professional life, they need to organize properly so that they can maintain proper balance between work & personal life as both are of equal importance.
