Correlation of physical fitness with basketball playing ability of university players

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to find out relationship between selected physical fitness variables and Basketball playing ability of basketball players. Selection of Subjects: 20 Basketball players were selected from department of Physical Education (Basketball Specialization group) Bilaspur Chhattisgarh. The age was ranging between 19-25 years. The mean and SD of age of Basketball players was 22.15 and 1.98. Selection of variables: Under independent variables researcher has selected physical fitness (speed, Agility, flexibility, grip strength) and Basketball playing ability was selected as dependent variables.. Statistical technique: To find out correlation between Independent Variables (Physical fitness variables) and Dependent Variable (Basketball Playing ability), descriptive statistics and Product Moment Method of correlation was used. The data were analyzed by the SPSS 16.0 software. Level of significance was set at 0.05. Results and Conclusion: The correlation values of Speed (-.898), Agility (-.702), Flexibility (.848) and Grip Strength (.803) were found significant in relation to the Basketball playing ability of Basketball players. The correlation On the basis of findings of this study this may be due to the fact that the ultimate playing ability of Basketball players depends on the selected physical fitness variables (Speed, Agility, Flexibility and Grip Strength).

Physical Fitness of Basketball and Volleyball Players of Kolkata, India

International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Physiology, 2019

Background and Aim: Data of fitness profile parameters in Indian basketball and volleyball players are scanty. Present study aimed to evaluate the fitness profile parameters of the volleyball and basketball players and compare the data between the groups and with their overseas and sedentary counterparts. Methods: Volleyball (n=40) and basketball (n=40) players belonging to the age group of 18-30 years were recruited from Kolkata, India in addition to their sedentary counterparts (n=30) who were recruited from the same locality where the players reside. Standard procedures were adopted to evaluate the fitness profile parameters. Statistical analyses comprised of ANOVA followed by Bonferroni's post-hoc analysis with the level of significance set at p<0.05. Results: Basketball players had significantly higher anaerobic power and BMI, % body fat and total body fat than the volleyball players, whereas, agility, body density and % LBM were significantly higher in volleyball players. Conclusion: Inter-group difference among the experimental group individuals may be attributed to the variation in the physical and physiological demands pertaining to their specific sport as well as difference in their training modules. Greater fitness in the studied players in comparison to sedentary control individuals was attributed due to their regular involvement in training.

PHYSICAL FITNESS COMPARISON BETWEEN NORTH-EASTERN AND WESTERN REGIONS YOUTH OF INDIA

The aim of the present study was to compare the physical fitness between youth of north-eastern and western region of India. For the purpose of study 60 subjects (30 from each region) were selected to serve as the subjects. Their age was ranged between 17 to 21 years. The study was delimited to the seven physical fitness variables namely, flexibility, abdominal strength, explosive leg strength, shoulder strength, agility, cardio vascular endurance and speed. For measuring these variables sit and reach test, bent knee sit-ups test, standing broad jump test, pull ups test, shuttle run test, one mile walk/run test and 50 meter sprint test were used respectively. To find out the significant differences between the youth of north eastern and western region of India, t-test was employed at 0.05 level of significance. The statistical analysis of data revealed that the youth of both the regions had no significant difference in relation with the flexibility. Whereas in terms of Abdominal Strength, Explosive Leg Strength, Shoulder Strength, Agility, Cardio Vascular Endurance and Speed significant differences was found. METHODOLOGY For the purpose of investigation 60 subjects (30 from each region), studying at BN College of Physical Education ,affiliated to Mohan Lal Sukharia University Udaipur, and LNIPE-NERC, Guwahati were randomly selected. The mean age of selected subjects was 22.14±2.04 year. The study was delimited to the seven physical fitness variables namely, flexibility, abdominal strength, explosive leg strength, shoulder strength, agility, cardio vascular endurance and speed. For assessing these variable; sit and reach test, bent knee situps test, standing broad jump test, pull ups test, shuttle run test, one mile walk/run test and 50 meter dash run test were used respectively (Mathews,et al, 1976). Research scholar had briefed them about the cause of the study.

Peculiarities of Physical Fitness of 17-20 Years Old Basketball Players Taking into Account Their Playing Role

International Journal of Human Movement and Sports Sciences, 2022

The article examines the problems of controlling the physical fitness of basketball players who are at the training stage for higher achievements. The comparative analysis of the level of physical fitness of young Ukrainian basketball players and their foreign peers who underwent testing (Draft Combine) during selection for professional NBA clubs was carried out. A significant (p < 0.05) advantage of foreign basketball players in tests that determined the level of speed, speed and strength as well as coordination abilities over Ukrainian basketball players was established. The players of the defending line (point guard, shooting guard) have a reliable advantage over the players of the offensive line (forward, center) in such tests as ¾ court sprint, line agility test, vertical jump, Yo-Yo test. Statistically reliable correlative relationships were established between the results of the multi-stage Yo-Yo shuttle test and the parameters of competitive activities of basketball players in a match. The athletes who showed better results in the Yo-Yo test (m) spent more playing time on the court during the season (r = 0.722).

COMPARATIVE STUDY OF PHYSICAL FITNESS PARAMETERS AMONG 12 YEARS OLD RURAL AND URBAN CHILDREN

Background: The environmental factors lead to changes in the physical fitness level among children. The objective of the present study was to compare the physical fitness parameters of the rural and urban children from Punjab. Methods: Total 60 children (30 rural and 30 urban) 12 years old were selected to participate in the study. All the subjects were measured for various physical fitness parameters. The speed ability was measured with the help of 30 meter sprint (Flying Start). The endurance of the rural and urban children was assessed with the help of 800 meter run. Sit and reach test was used to assess the flexibility of the children. The standing broad jump and standing vertical jump were applied to measure the explosive strength. The grip strength was measured with the help of hand dynamometer. The medicine ball put was used to measure the strength of arms. Results: The independent samples t-test revealed that the rural children were found to have significantly greater speed (p<0.05), standing broad jump (p<0.05), grip strength of both left (p<0.05) and right (p<0.05) hand than the urban children. Conclusions: It can be concluded that the rural children were better in some physical fitness parameters.
