Abstract
The present study examines the relationship between internet addiction on the one hand and loneliness and identity styles of university students on the other hand. To this aim, a sample of 288 undergraduate students (108 male and 180 female) are chosen from of Psychology and Educational Sciences Faculty of Kharazmi University and Agronomy Faculty of Tehran University in educational year of 2009-2010. These students are selected from four faculties through cluster sampling. The research instruments used in this study include Young Internet Addiction Inventory (1998), Russell UCLA Loneliness Scale (1996), and Berzonsky Identity Styles Inventory revised by White and his colleagues (1998). According to the analysis of correlations, internet addiction has a positive and significant relationship with diffuseavoidant identity style.
