The COVID-19 pandemic has hit various sectors, including the stock market where many people are hesitant to invest in stocks. Stock Return Effect During COVID-19: Evidence from Indonesia

This paper evaluated the impact of Covid-19 in Indonesia. The total samples used in this observation were 140,864 samples from Indonesia, collected from March 05, 2020, until December 30, 2020. The regression used was STATA 13.1, and the independent variable was the stock return. Meanwhile, the other variables used to measure the impact of Stock return during Covid-19 are Trading volume, Exchange rate, and Friday. The result revealed that Stock returns in Indonesia were negatively affected by Covid-19, the impact being carried away from the investors’ uncertainty and anxiety about Covid-19. On the other hand, trading on Friday makes investors less suffering from negative returns.

This study analyzes the reaction of the Indonesian capital market to the Covid-19 incident by using the Liquid-45 market index (LQ-45). The method used to analyze abnormal returns is the event study method. The research period used is 111 stock exchange days consisting of an estimation period and a window period. The results showed that during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indonesian capital market was said to be efficient in a half-strong form both in information and decisions. Information efficiency means that the market responds quickly and efficiently in a decision meaning that the market responds appropriately. The negative and significant Average Abnormal Return also reflects the Covid-19 Pandemic has had a negative impact on the Indonesian capital market.

The COVID-19 pandemic has harmed the national economy and caused a decline in various businesses' financial performance. This study aims to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on firms' financial performance listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The research samples included 214 companies, which were divided proportionally into nine sectors or 49 sub-sectors. Data analysis used was the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results show an increase in the leverage ratio and short-term activity ratio but a decrease in the public companies' liquidity ratio and profitability ratio during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to analyze which sectors are affected by the announcement of the first Covid-19 patient and the announcement of the new normal in terms of abnormal returns, trading volume activity, market capitalization, and net foreign sell. The samples used were stocks included in the Kompas 100 index. Data were analyzed using an event study non-parametric statistical approach to Corrado rank test, Wilcoxon Sign Rank test, and statistically parametric paired sample t-test using Microsoft Excel and SPSS version 26 applications. The results of the study show that the announcement of the first Covid-19 patient did not have a significant impact on the average abnormal stock return in all business sectors. However, on the fifth day after the event, there was a significant negative abnormal return in all sectors other than the technology sector. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the stock market conditions of IDX and SGX due to the influence of COVID 19. Through a regression analysis study method to see the condition of stock returns on companies in IDX and SGX. These two countries were taken as the focus of the study considering the closeness of business relationships and the highest number of COVID 19 cases in the Southeast Asia Region. The researcher concludes that the IDX is more sensitive to the increase confirmed case of COVID 19 and the SGX is more sensitive to the increase deaths cases of COVID 19. Estimating the Effect of the COVID-19 Outbreak Events on the Indonesia Sectoral Stock Return

COVID-19 has become a global issue that bought a simultaneous effect all over the world. This outbreak has caused a significant impact on the economic stability including the stock market performance. This research used event study methodology to evaluate the Indonesia's sectoral stock market performance which is represented by companies with the biggest market capitalization in Indonesia. Estimating the COVID-19 outbreak events, the sample of the study consisted of daily sectoral indices stock data from 1 December 2017 to 14 April 2020. The market model is used to predict expected stock returns and simple regression to get the parameters of the equation. By using a t-test, it can be concluded whether the virus outbreak caused an abnormal return on the sectoral indices. The finding showed that the abnormal returns were found in the Basic Industry and Chemicals sector, Infrastructure, Utilities and Transportation sector, Agricultural sector and Mining sector. Furthermore, Basic Industry and Chemical sector, which is represented by Barito Pasific Ltd., give the greatest reaction to the stock market performance in Indonesia due to COVID-19.
