Use of Web-Based Library Services in Mysore City Engineering Colleges in Karnataka, India: A Study

This paper focusses on the Use of Web-Based Library Services in Mysore City Engineering Colleges. The study covers Web-Based Reference, Acquisition, Circulation, Cataloguing, Periodical Services, ILL/Document delivery services, problems in accessing Webbased library services by users of engineering college libraries of Mysuru city. We were also consulted to design the questionnaire. A well-designed questionnaire was an issue to engineering college's students in Mysuru city. Altogether 300 questionnaires were issued personally to users of engineering college's students of Mysuru city and 250 were collected with a response rate of 83.3%. Essential statistical techniques (SPSS) and methods will be used to examine the research data. The results given in table 7.8 reveal that (P<.000) there is a significant difference in miscellaneous services 'Online general library policies'. It is observed that highest respondents scoring 136(54.4%) say 'highly useful' and only few accounting replayed 3(1.2%) of them state 'moderately useful' with highest mean value of 4.30 and SD being .980.

Web‐Based Library Services in Selected Central University Libraries of India: A Study

World Wide Web (WWW) and Internet becomes a new media of libraries for information storage and information providing with greater speed and economy. This paper discusses on the use of web-based library services available in some selected central University Library in India and examines how central university libraries provides web-based access to its collections and user support for that access and the problems faced by the users in accessing web-based library services. This paper will also find out some recommendations for increasing the effective use of web-based library services.

Web-based library and Information Services in the Libraries of the Institutions of National Importance in India: A study with reference to Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu

This paper focuses on the use of web-based library services in India and examines how libraries in the Institutions of National importance in India provide web access to their collections and other services. The study sample for the present study were Thirteen (13) institutions of National importance located at Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu states which were selected using purposive sampling technique based on the research objectives. The data was collected using a web-based survey by examining the library websites of the select institutions using a check-list of 52 items covered topics of library general information, library resources, library services, links to e-resources, Web 2.0 tools and Web 3.0 tools. This particular check-list was developed by the researchers after analyzing the related literature reviews and previous studies related to the topic. Finding shows that many of the surveyed Institutions of National importance in India’s libraries have not fully exploited the potential of the web forms, and are still lagging behind to make the effective use of library websites. Among the selected institutions, few libraries were found to offer web-based library services in different sections. The present paper highlights the present status of the web-based library services in the select Institutions of National importance in India’s librarians in Southern India. The study also highlights the role of Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 environment to enhance the quality of web-based library services and suggest new approaches for effective use of web-based library services. Why users need Internet in college libraries? A Study of college libraries in India

The purpose of the study is to investigate the why users need Internet in college Libraries. For the concern of this the investigator has made a study on the use of the Internet by the students and faculty members of the colleges' libraries in Karnataka, India. The main objective is to find out the use of the Internet, analyse the use of the Internet in relation to other information sources and how they perceive the advantages of Internet and problems for accessing them. Study results show that the academic community who participated in this survey are aware of the Internet. Even though a Majority of the respondents are using the internet for general information, e-mail, finding relevant information, writing research articles and for searching, jobs and Majority of the respondents visited 618 (68.67%) stated that their college has an independent website and whereas 282 (31.33%) of respondents are not visited college website. Highest numbers of users are visiting their college website.

Content Analysis of Library Website of Selected Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in India: A Study

This study is content analysis of the selected library website of Indian Institute of Management in India. For conducting the study, online survey and observation methods were found appropriate. The data were collected through the well structural six checklist elements from the selected IIM in India under the study. The study further, discusses services and facilities being offered by the IIM library website. The study reveals that maximum number of IIM library website have mentioned information related to about us & library hours 13 (77.2%), library services, library rules and regulation 11(61.1%), collection of books & journals 13(72.2%), E-resources that is e-books, ejournals 14(77.7%) on their website/webpage. On their website/webpage , however , study also report that of the library website/webpage have social bookmarking tag , Facebook 3 (16.6%), LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, and You Tube 2 (11.1%) on their website. The domain name of the host website, general information about the library, library services, library collection, information on E-Resources, information on social bookmarking tag, and link search & retrieval interface are the major elements considered to evaluate the library website. The study suggest for caring out such evaluative studies which is the need of hour to enable the institution to update their website periodically and come up with flying colors on users expectation.

Web content and design trends of Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) libraries’ website: An evaluation

The present study aims to evaluate and analyse the web contents of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) library website/web pages. Survey and observation method was used to collect the primary data from the respective library websites of19 IITs library websites/web pages where 128 criteria have been designed and data were collected during the month of November, 2016 that was further verified between the periods of 1 st March-15 th March, 2017.The study reveals, only four IITs have a library webpage and one has a dedicated page for library. And very less IIT library website/web page have provided the information about the collections, services, value-added services, and Web 2.0 tools link. The evaluation of the websites will help to upgrade the IITs library website which will be useful for other institutions too.
