Writing as one of the language skills is not as easy as one thinks because it needs some exact requirements to create topic sentence, controlling idea, supporting sentences, concluding sentence, etc. It is not surprising that students have difficulty in writing. The students could not describe thing, place or person because they could not express their ideas and they have limited vocabulary. Thus, they need some ways or media which could help them write descriptive texts. The teacher should be creative to search for interesting media to teach writing descriptive texts. The aim of this study is to describe there is significant between students’ writing skill in descriptive text before and after being taught by using picture of the first year students of SMAN 1 Karangrejo. The design of this study is quantitative design. The research was students of X-3 class that consists of 38 students. The instrument of this research was test that consists of pre-test and post test. The result is known that there is significant difference before and after being taught by using picture. It means teaching writing descriptive text by using picture of the first year students of SMAN 1 Karangrejo is effective. It is recommended to the teacher to use picture as a medium in teaching descriptive writing and to increase the students writing skill.

This research investigated “Using Picture as Teaching Media in Writing Descriptive Text”. It enhanced the ability to write descriptive in one of junior high school in Garut. The purpose of the research was to know the effect of using pictures on students’ writing ability in descriptive text. The research population was the eighth grade students. The researcher used a written test to collect data. The research design was quantitative experimental. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test. The technique used in analyzing the data was t-test formula. It was used to determine whether there was a significance difference between the pre-test and post-test. The result of the test between pre-test and post-test, the mean of pre-test was 59.63 and the mean of post-test was 75.17 The obtained ttest was tobserved = 12.51 and tcritical = 2.0452. The research was conducted aiming to an analysis of students’ ability in writing descriptive texts at the ninth grade of SMPIT Sabbihisma Padang. The method used in this research is the qualitative method. The subjects of this study were the 32 students of the IX-1 class. The research investigated the descriptive writing text which had been done by the ninth-grade students of SMPIT Sabbihisma Padang. The researcher analyzed the students’ writing results referring to the five aspects. They were organization ideas, developed ideas, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. After analyzing the texts written by the student, the researcher categorizes them into four categories, namely excellent, good, fair, and poor. Ludovikus: Eleventh Grade Students’ Performance in Writing Descriptive Texts at SMK N 1 Kasihan Bantul This study was conducted to find out: (a) How is the students’ performance in writing descriptive texts and (b). What are the factors that affect the students’ performance in writing descriptive texts. This research was conducted at SMK N 1 Kasihan Bantul, especially for the eleventh grade students as the participants. The researcher used case study; the data employed were classroom observation, interview, the task and documentation. The collected data in this research were analyzed descriptively. The validity and reliability of the data were conducted by applying the protocol analysis. Findings show that students’ performance in writing descriptive texts was various. Some students preferred to write the texts spontaneously and directly and other students found it easy to write or describe the things or places they have ever visited. Almost all the students said that they did not make the outline and draft before writing. Some of them stated that they made the revision and the topic sentence in their writing and some of them did not develop the idea and arranged the words correctly in the topic sentence in each paragraph. Most of them can develop the supporting idea in their writing but few students just make the topic sentence and they cannot develop their ideas because lack of vocabulary about generic structure. The factors that affect students’ performance were also various. They found difficulty in vocabulary and grammar that made them unable to develop the idea in the topic sentence and to arrange the text in the paragraph and grammatical structure. Penelitian ini meneliti komposisi penulisan deskriptif yang telah dilakukan oleh siswa kelas sebelas di SMAN 1 Tumpang malang. Peneliiti menganalisis kesalahan dalam teks deskriptif siswa berdasarkan tata bahasa dalam deskriptip siswa berdasarkan pada fitur linguistik dan menggunakan teori Linguistik dari Brown dan Bailey Analitikal Skor. Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisa tulisan deskriptif di SMAN 1 Tumpang Malang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 9 siswa dari SMAN 1 Tumpang Malang yang telah dipilih secara acak oleh peneliti untuk mengklasifikasikannya menjadi 3 tingkatan, baik, sedang dan rendah. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini adalah tulisan siswa mengenai deskriptif text itu sendiri. Dari hasil penelitian tersebut, para siswa dapat mengembangkan ide-ide mereka tetapi masih memiliki masalah dalam tata bahasa dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Hal ini dapat dibuktikan dari tulisan siswa dalam jangka waktu masing-masing komponen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada siswa mendapat tingkat yang sangat baik dalam mengembangkan ide-ide, lima siswa berada di tingkat yang baik, dan empat siswa di tingkat rendah. The objective of the research was to find out whether or not the use of juxtaposing pictures can improve the students' writing ability especially in writing description. The researchers applied a pre-experimental method with one group pre-test and one group post-test design. The subject of the research was the second year students of SMAN 3 Enrekang in academic year 2017-2018. The sample consisted of 32 students of XI IPA 1. The data were collected through writing test (pre-test and post-test). To find out the effectiveness of juxtaposing pictures in improving writing ability, the researcher applied t-test analysis. The result of the analysis showed that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test. The value of t-test (9.09) was greater than the t-table (2.039) and degree of freedom (df) = 31. It is concluded that juxtaposing pictures is effective in improving the students' writing ability in writing description.
