Cattle Farmers' Participation in Rural Development Program in Bantul Yogyakarta

The purpose of this study to determine the level of participation, identify the factors that influence the participation of farmers and to analysis the effect of participation in the Scholars develop village or Sarjana Membangun Desa (SMD) program. The research was conducted on a group of beef cattle in the SMD program Bantul Yogyakarta Province. Primary data were collected by survey method using questionnaire interviews on 8 SMD groups consisting of 42 members. Analysis of the level of participation of farmers using discriptive analysis, while to analysis factors that affect the participation of farmers and the influence of participation to the success of the program was used multiple linear regression analysis with SPSS tools for windows 16. The success of the empowerment program in the School for Smallholder Livestock Farming Community (SPR) cannot be separated from the contribution of local actors who have a dominant role in the community. This study aims to identify the local actors who dominate the empowerment of smallholder livestock farming community programs, measures the influence index and capital ownership as well as the social actions of these actors in carrying out their roles located. This research took place in two areas, namely Cinta Damai Village, Sungai Lilin District, Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatera Province and Soko Village, Temayang District, Bojonegoro Regency, East Java Province. Kabupaten Aceh Jaya is a very potential Aceh patchouli production center. The development of the patchouli industry sector in Aceh faces serious challenges, especially the capacity building of farmers towards good agriculture practices, and innovation and technology. This study aims to identify the level of empowerment of farmers and the affecting factors. The study employed a questionnaire survey to 88 samples from 383 populations. Data analysis used a descriptive method and chi-square test. The results show that a low level of farmer empowerment is predominantly. The weakest elements are the ability to cooperate and solidarity; meanwhile, the ability to overcome obstacles is the highest, followed by the awareness and desire to change, and the ability to increase capacity to gain access. The purpose of this study is to determine the potential of agriculture and animal husbandry in the sustainable empowerment of farmers in the beef cattle business in the dry land of Kediri Regency and analyze the factors related to the sustainable empowerment of farmers in the beef cattle business in the dry land area of Kediri Regency. The study was conducted in Kepung Sub district, Kediri Regency with consideration of the area, the number of farmers who keep the beef cattle in a rowdy pattern, and is one of the areas that are the regional development priorities of the Kediri Regency government. Sampling method that used was a survey method. The results showed that the potential in agriculture in Kediri District showed that the largest percentage of the community worked as farmers or breeders and showed a very supportive interaction with the continuous empowerment of beef cattle breeders. Factors that related to Sustainable empowerment of cattle farmers in Beef Cattle are human capital, social capital, natural capital, motivational capital, artificial capital, capability capital for empowerment actors, and farmers' independence capital.
Model of Empowerment Members of Farmers Group Based on Beef Cattle Business in Indonesia

This study aims to investigate the profile of members of the livestock farmers group, supporting factors, obstacles, needs and determine the empowerment model through beef cattle breeding business. This research was conducted in Karanganyar Regency, Central Java Province, Indonesia. Sampling was done by convenience sampling of 62 respondents. The data collection through observation, interviews and Focus Group Discussion. The research data obtained were analyzed descriptively and needs analysis. The results showed that most of the respondents had low levels of education, the average occupation of the respondents were farmers and had side jobs as breeders. Empowerment Strategy of Dry-land Farmers: Insights from Indonesia

The purpose of this study is to identify the level of empowerment of dry-land farmers and develop a model of strategy for empowering them. This study was done in Wonogiri Regency, Central Java Province, Indonesia. The level of empowerment is approached descriptively, while the development of an empowerment strategy uses the Analysis Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The results shows the level of empowerment of dry-land farmers in those area is still low indicated by the power of access to economic (credit, market information, and technology) and non-economic (lobbying and stakeholders) where each value is less than 50% based on the results of the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and in-depth interviews with keypersons. The empowerment strategy can be carried out by developing production, capital procurement, production technology assistance, and improvement of dry land agroecosystems.

Empowerment of farmers is needed with the aim of farmers having expertise that can help their activities towards independent farming and able to compete, able to establish cooperation with fellow farmers and with institutions of agricultural science or technology. This research is a study that uses a qualitative approach with a qualitative approach with phenomenological design to reveal the description of the efforts made by field agricultural extension officers in empowering farmers to improve the performance of farming in the "Mugi Rahayu" Farmer Group in Tegalsari Village, Jetis District, Ponorogo Regency. Empowerment of farmers in the farmer group "Mugi Rahayu" was carried out through extension activities carried out by field agricultural extension workers. Extension activities are carried out routinely to deliver material that is felt to be the learning needs of farmers in recognizing problems and finding solutions to existing problems in accordance with the characteristics and potential of the land owned. Empowerment of farmers through extension activities carried out through a series of processes consisting of planning, implementation and evaluation. The series of processes are carried out jointly between farmer groups, extension agents, and farmers as learning targets. Improving the performance of farms is not only seen from the addition of the amount of farm income every harvest period, the empowerment of farmers can also be seen from the ability of farmers to recognize problems and seek problem solving independently.
Factors affecting peasants’ empowerment in West Halmahera District – a case study from Indonesia

Agricultural development has not yet created empowered farmers in Indonesia. Most farmers living in eastern Indonesia are peasants with low access to development resources. This condition causes most of the peasants to be classified as poor citizens. This research was meant to formulate improvement strategies for empowerment of the peasants. The data were collected between March – May 2012 using the following methods: observation, interview and focus group discussion.
