Comparative Study of Cd 2 + Ions Sorption by Both Lewatit TP 214 and Lewatit TP 208 Resins : Kinetic , Equilibrium and Thermodynamic Modelling (original) (raw)
This comparative study investigated the pre-concent ration/separation procedure for the solid phase ext raction of trace cadmium ions by both Lewatit TP 214 and Lewatit TP 208 resins in batch process. Lewatit TP 214 is a macro porous chelating ion-exchange resin having thiourea as functional gr oups in a polystyrene-divinyl-benzene matrix, while Lewatit TP 208 is a weak acidic, macroporous cation exchange resin with the iminodiacetate functional groups in a polystyr ene-divinylbenzene matrix. The pre-concentration procedure was optimized by using model solutions containing cadm ium ions. The influences of experimental parameters like: pH, tim e reaction, initial Cd 2+ concentration and ionic strength were investigated. The results obtained show that extraction yield of Cd sorption decreases in acidic medium. Lewatit TP 20 8 shows high affinity towards Cd than Lewatit TP 214. The maximal sorption capacity was found to be 81.75 mg/g and 308.65 mg/g for Lewatit TP 214 and Lewatit TP 20...
