Objective: In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between social media addiction and loneliness levels depending on the social media use of Communication Faculty students according to some variables. Method and Participants: In this study, which is based on the quantitative research method, the relational survey model was used. Participants were selected by snowball sampling method. It was formed with the participation of the students of the Faculty of Communication, studying at various universities in the 2021-2022 fall academic years. The Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS) was used to measure the social media addiction levels, and the UCLA-Loneliness Scale (UCLA-LS) was used for the loneliness levels of the participants. For research data, descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov-Smirnov for normality test, Spearman, Mann Whitney, Kruskal Wallis-H tests for social media addiction and loneliness level relationship, and Tamhane's 2 Post-hoc test for analysis of differences between groups were used. Results: As a result of the findings, a significant and positive relationship was determined between the social media addictions and loneliness levels of the students of the Faculty of Communication. Among the sub-variables, there was a significant difference between gender and social media addiction and loneliness levels, while a significant difference was observed between the class variable and the two scales. In addition, it was found that there was a significant difference according to the variables of daily social media usage and social media usage purposes. Conclusion: As a result of the findings obtained from the study, the concepts in terms of Attachment, Psychoanalytic and Phenomenological theories were explained. On the other hand, according to the Cognitive Behavior Model and Compensatory Internet Use theories, the findings were discussed, and conclusions and recommendations were given.
