Why isn't ICT as effective as it ought to be in school education?
Proceedings of the 3.1 and 3.3 working groups …, 2003
Meta-studies of the effectiveness of ICT (information and communication technology) in education indicate that it has about as much impact as any other innovation . However, there are great expectations about ICT having as significant an influence in this area as it has had in industry and commerce (Kraver 1997). Where have we gone wrong? Are teachers bound to the past and determined to dismiss any technological innovation until it has truly proven itself reliable? Or are systems rushing into the adoption of computers in schools belatedly for a mixture of social, economic and purportedly pedagogic reasons? I say belatedly, because it is increasingly the case that in several countries students have far easier access to a computer and the Internet at home than in the classroom.
Teachers’ Decisions to Use ICT in Classroom Practice
International Journal of Digital Literacy and Digital Competence, 2012
Presented are reports on a pilot study investigating Greek secondary education teachers’ perceptions and attitudes towards current use of ICT as a learning tool in their classroom practice and the possible factors that influence their decisions to integrate ICT in their instruction. The survey presented has adopted the Decomposed Theory of Planned Behavior (DTPB) with certain modifications a) to assess teachers’ beliefs of the potential of ICT to support classroom learning activities, and b) to better understand teachers’ decisions to adopt ICT as learning tool in classroom practice. A Likert-type scale was constructed to investigate the DTPB variables and other factors related to the use of ICT in the classroom. Results indicated that although teachers were aware of the benefits of ICT to promote students’ learning they do not integrate ICT as a learning tool in their regular, everyday teaching practices. Primary factors determining the use of ICT in classroom practice relate to fa...

The research paper discussed ICT impact on schools, through discussing its impact on teachers and students, and their general attitudes towards use of ICT in their classroom and as a medium of teaching and learning. The majority of the research indicated that the use of ICT was fruitful; its implementation raised the motivation of the students towards learning through breaking the conventional methods of teaching. Moreover, some of the studies showed that the student's rates of success, and that their participation improved, in addition to advancement in their computer skills and most importantly, their achievement. The use of ICT in schools is challenging and requires careful planning since the new generations have advanced skills in most of the new technological innovations, which threatens the educational process through using the ICT provided at schools for purposes beyond learning and teaching.
TURUN YLIOPISTO Turku 2008 The effects of ICT on school: teachers' and students' perspectives

Challenges for Using ICT in Education: Teachers’ Insights
—A number of studies have argued that the use of new technologies in education is essential in the information age. The integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching and learning provides more opportunities for teachers and students to work better in an information age. However, some barriers may discourage teachers to integrate ICT in the classroom and prevent them to introduce supporting materials through ICT usage. Examining the barriers for using ICT in education can assist the educators to overcome the obstacles and integrate the ICT in everyday education. This study aims to investigate the teachers' perceptions of the barriers and challenges preventing teachers to integrate ICT in the classroom. Therefore, a validated questionnaire was administered to 30 high school English teachers who were selected from the five main educational districts in the city of Isfahan, Iran. Stratified random sampling was used to select equal number of respondents from each educational district. The findings indicated that although teachers had a strong desire to use ICT in the classroom, they were encountered with some barriers. Insufficient technical supports at schools and little access to Internet and ICT were considered as the major barriers preventing teachers to integrate ICT into the curriculum. Moreover, the descriptive analysis of the results showed that shortage of class time was another significant barrier discouraging teachers to use ICT into the classroom.
ICT in Education Sector and its Impacts
Dr. Aarti Trehan
A rapid evolution process is being observed worldwide in the need for information facilities in the term of quantity, quality and access to information. The process of information and communication and transmission of information has become so fast that it has spread all over the world. This revolution has affected human lives and has brought a radical change in the field of education and therefore, education process has become more effective, meaningful and productive. Advances in digital technology have created many avenues of learning. It is keeping students and teachers updated and enhancing their capacity .Through this technology active learning, discussion, sharing of ideas, immediate feedback and easy access to digital content is taking place very rapidly. In this competitive world, future of education sector lies in knowledge of ICT. It has made information accessible / transmittable from anywhere and by / to all groups of people. Analysis of the ICT impact on students, teachers and school practices
This paper systematizes the impact of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in school education. The analysis is taking into account the results of ICT studies developed by international organizations (European Union, European Commission, OECD), case studies developed in schools (ImpaCT2, PILOT) and studies developed at regional level (NORDIC 2006). The results can be considered arguments to sustain and promote ICT initiatives at school, regional and national level. Moreover, they can be a point of reflection for the ICT skeptics and a starting point for discussions focusing on how school should start its trip toward the innovation.
Study content and motivation for using ICT in education
Only a digitally competent teacher can effectively use ICT in the educational process. Teachers must be educated and adequate ICT learning contents are required. The study contents should fulfil the objectives of knowledge upgrade and motivation for use of ICT in educational processes. The aim of this study was to get better insight into the pre-service teacher's assessment of topics' popularity, estimations of achieved skills and motivation for implementation of ICT in education. Our research sample consists of two generations of students of elementary education that attended the ICT in Education course. The two-year time gap is considered suitable to discover differences between generations because of the rapid development of ICT. The data were statistically analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results show the increased acceptance of ICT in education, but the trends for the forthcoming generations are left to future researches.
