In this paper we describe a science teacher preparation program, implemented in Greece, aiming at ICT integration in classroom practice. The development of this teacher preparation program was guided by the various components of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) while attempting to meet the professional development needs of science teachers. We begin with an overview of this teacher preparation program. Next, we look specifically at program components and correlate them with the knowledge bases for science education in secondary schools, particularly Pedagogical Content Knowledge. This is followed by a review of recent research findings that report the impact of the teacher preparation program on teachers' views, perceptions and abilities to integrate ICT in science classroom. Finally, we draw on the apparent successes and challenges of the teacher preparation program to make suggestions regarding further applications of the construct of TPACK in science teacher preparation.

This paper reports on the design and the implementation of the Technological Pedagogical Science Knowledge (TPASK), a new model for science teachers professional development built on an integrated framework determined by the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) model and the authentic learning approach. The TPASK curriculum dimensions and the related course sessions are also elaborated and applied in the context of a teacher trainers' preparation program aiming at ICT integration in science classroom practice. A brief description of the project, its accomplishments, and perceptions of the participants, through the lens of TPASK professional development model, are presented. This is followed by the presentation of the evaluation results on the impact of the program which demonstrates that science teachers reported meaningful TPASK knowledge and increased willingness to adopt and apply this framework in their instruction. Finally, we draw on the need to expand TPACK by incorporating a fourth dimension, the Educational Context within Pedagogy, Content and Technology mutually interact, in order to address future policy models concerning teacher preparation to integrate ICT in education.

Teachers in the 21st century are like today at a very rapid technological development. Teachers not only have to master understanding the content of the subject matter but also need skills in using and operating technology in learning. So that we need teachers who can integrate content and pedagogical skills with technology. In this study, we examined how teachers involved in a yearlong technology integration initiative planned to enact technological, pedagogical, and content practices in science lessons. These science teachers, engaged in an initiative to integrate educational technology in inquiry-based science lessons, provided a total of 525 lesson plans for this study. While our findings indicated an increase in technology-related practices, including the use of sophisticated hardware, very little improvements occurred with fostering inquiry-based science and effective science-specific pedagogy. In addition, our conceptual framework, technological pedagogical content knowledge, as a lens to examine teachers' intentions as documented in their lesson plans, provided an additional platform from which to investigate technology integration practices within the ambit of reform science teaching practices. This study, therefore, contributes knowledge about the structure and agenda of professional development initiatives that involve educational technology and integration into content knowledge disciplines such as science.

Preservice teachers' pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) development was investigated with respect to integrating technology. Four components of PCK were adapted to describe technology-enhanced PCK (TPCK). The study examined the TPCK of student teachers in a multi-dimensional science and mathematics teacher preparation program that integrated teaching and learning with technology throughout the program. Five cases described the difficulties and successes of student teachers teaching with technology in molding their TPCK. Student teachers view of the integration of technology and the nature of the discipline was identified as an important aspect of the development of TPCK. r

The call to reform education systems is being heard in many countries around the world. The purpose of this study is to develop and apply a framework that captures some of the essential qualities of the knowledge required by teachers for effective pedagogical practice in a technology-enhanced educational environment using technology and pedagogy content knowledge (TPACK). A TPACK Short and Quick (TPACK-SQ) survey questionnaire was used to explore and assess 244 in-and pre-service science and mathematics teachers in Kuwait. The results of the survey showed that in-service teachers needed help with some aspects of TPACK. Therefore, a workshop was developed and 57 in-service teachers were enrolled and trained based on the TPACK-SQ model. The results of posttests for their knowledge were significantly positive as against pretests. The workshop thus provides a rich example of how to support the implementation of essential elements of the TPACK-SQ model.

TPACK is a dynamic and transactional relationship between content, pedagogy, and technology. It is vital for good teaching with technology to understand the mutual relationship between the three components taken together to create suitable, context-specific, strategies and representations. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the level of technology pedagogy and content knowledge of pre-service science teachers. The respondents were the 428 pre-service science teachers from the different higher education institutions in Caraga Region. Results showed that the overall mean score of the level of technology pedagogy and content knowledge (TPACK) of the pre-service science teachers was low (4.11). Moreover, technological knowledge (TK) obtained the highest mean score of 5.19 while technological pedagogical and content knowledge (TPACK) was the lowest (3.18). It implied that the pre-service science teachers have insufficient training and practice to include technology in their instructions. Further, there are two (2) models that predict the TPACK of the pre-service science teachers namely: (Model 1) TPACK = f(TK) and (Model 2) TPACK = f(TK + PCK). TK influenced the TPACK in model 1 while TK and PCK influenced the TPACK in model 2. TK and PCK showed a positive relationship to TPACK. Hence, to have an effective network between technology, pedagogy, and content in teacher education programs, it is hereby recommended the inclusion of professional development in the curriculum of the preservice teachers through the conduct of capability training and hands-on exposure to acquiring additional knowledge in integrating technology in the classroom instructions within their content areas.
