DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology

DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology (DJLIT), formerly known as DESIDOC Bulletin of Information Technology, is a peer-reviewed, open access, bimonthly journal. This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of the journal to assess the pattern of growth of the research output published in the journal, pattern of authorship and geographic distribution of output, subjects covered and citation analysis of the references attached to the papers and change in them over two different periods (2001-2006) and (2007-2012). It is found that 391 papers were published during the period of study (2001-2012). The maximum number of articles (65) was published in 2012. The maximum number of contributions is joint collaborations with 61.4 %. Most of the contributions (88 %) are from India and 12 % are foreign contributions. The study revealed that majority of the authors preferred journals as the source of information providing the highest number of citations. Dr BM Gupta has published maximum number of articles (26) in the Journal during the period under study. The maximum number of articles (65 %) has the length of 6-10 pages. Maximum number of special issues (5) was published in 2012.

Abstract: - DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology (DJLIT) is more than three decades old journal, published in the field of library and information Sciences, on bimonthly basis, by Defense Science Documentation Centre, New Delhi, India. The journal is enjoying wide readership both at national and international level. The present Bibliometric study was carried on 366 scholarly research articles published in ‘DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology, during the period 2003-2012. Present analysis is mostly confined to examine article distribution pattern of the journal articles, authorship pattern, geographical distribution of authors and citation analysis. A maximum of 147 articles contributed in the journal are on two author pattern, followed by 139 articles as single author. Content analysis of DESIDOC Bulletin of Information Technology (1997-2002)

The paper is the outcome of the content analysis of 33 issues of DESIDOC Bulletin of Information Technology (DBIT) published during January 1997 to July 2002. The DBIT gives more emphasis on IT related areas. DBIT is a peer-reviewed journal and publishes thematic issues on different areas of IT, library management and information marketing and the contents of journal are analysed in this study. DBIT is a useful tool for library professionals, information managers, information scientists, and information specialists, computer personnels and researchers with a vision for development in IT.

Desidoc Bulletin of Information Technology:A Bibliometric Study

Research publications over a ten-year period from 1992-2002 are analyzed to assess the trends in the publication patterns in DESIDOC Bulletin of Information Technology by library and information professionals. The data collected from the 10 volumes is summarized in ten tables: volume wise distribution of contributors, authorship pattern of contributors, geographical distribution of contributors, institution wise, etc. This study reveals that total 145 articles were published in the 60 issues of the journal. Out of the 145 publications, 97 (66.90%) articles published by single author. The study also reveals that 128 items (88.28%) were contributed from India and rest 17 items (11.72%) were contributed from rest of the countries.

KIIT Journal of Library and Information Management

, have captured the attention of the research scholars in the recent years, thanks to the vast digital resources made available in Universities. This study attempts to trace out the awareness and use of e-resources by the full time Ph.D scholars of four departments of 'School of Chemistry' at Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. A sample size of 80 scholars was selected by random sampling method. The data required for the study was collected through a questionnaire. The findings of the study: 49 (65%) respondents locate information in the web with the help of Search Engines. Google has become the most popular search engine among the full time Ph.D scholars (92%). Keyword search is the favourite search strategy (40%). 31(41%) respondents have less than 6 months experience in using e-resources and 20(27%) respondents possess more than two years experience in utilizing the e-resources. 72 (96%) respondents are aware of Internet, 64 (85%) respondents are aware of e-journals/e-books and 63 (84%) respondents are aware about websites/home pages. 80% of the respondents use Internet and 39% of the respondents have not used the virtual conference ever.54(72%) respondents are expert in websites/Homepages and 42(56%) respondents are beginners in using e-journals/e-books. The major benefit of using e-resources is their ease of use (37%). 35 % of the respondents consider "Lack of knowledge for using e-resources' is the major constraint in using e-resources. Guidance from others is the main mode of learning about e-resources among the respondents (58%). 71% scholars want to attend some kind of training programme to learn to use e-resources. 15(20%) respondents need training in skills to get required information from various e-journals. The history of the development of the public library may be said to be as old as that of education in India. Public library is largely regarded as the People’s University. It has tremendous developments in India from the early period to till date at various stages. But district public libraries have failed to serve the people as expected due to number of reasons. Information explosion and increasing knowledge resources & materials for every bit of minutes, development of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and the change in the approaches and information seeking behavior of the people have compelled to modernize the district public libraries so as to serve users in the most effective way according to the taste of the them. Present study focuses on the problems and prospects of district public library services in the Uttar Pradesh. The study finds out the prevailing problems and their prospects for which district public libraries are unable to reach to the common people in the state. The study also highlights the challenges of public libraries in the present day context of modern technology and points out the present status of services given by the public libraries in reality in the state.

Publication meant for highly quality research through LIS in India: The Special Reference to DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology (DJLIT

The analysed the research publications contributions of the LIS researchers in DJLIT (DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information technology) during 2011-2017. The total no. 419bibliographical records were retrieved from DJLIT website during the period of study. The result of the study observed that Maximum of 70 papers was brought out in the year 2012. It followed by 66 papers published in 2013. The study found that DJLIT productivity range of publications between 12.17 and 16.76 over the period of study. RGR and Dt was an increasing and a decreasing trend observed over period of study. It is found that highest RGR was 0.18 in 2012 and lowest RGR was 0.04 known in two years 2014 and 2016 it could be observed RGR and Dt went on exponential growth were does not progress during the period. 36.75 % of the publications shared single author. 63.25 % of the publications contributed in collaborative nature. It is observed that majority of publications 44.15 % representing by the two authors in the analysis BM. Guptha was published 18 papers in DJLIT, who is a ranked 1 author. It followed by Chenupathi K. Ramiah shored second his publications 11.University of Delhi, which is the top ranked institution. It is followed by NISTADS (24), DRDO (22), Pondicherry University (13), Banaras Hindu University (11) , Indian Institute of technology (11) and University of Kashmir (10).

This study aims to examine the use of electronic information sources (EIS) by the teaching faculties. The survey was administrated among the academic community along with the observation and informal interviews at the College of Dry Land Agriculture and Natural Resources, 'Mekelle University' Ethiopia in the year 2014. Pre structured questionnaires were sent to 176 teaching faculties to know how they elaborate the various aspects of EIS use such as frequency and purpose of EIS use, frequently used EIS, method of learning to use EIS, benefits of EIS, constraints faced in the use of EIS and the satisfaction level of faculties in the use of EIS. Suggestions have been given to strengthen the existing electronic information sources and services and to maximize the use of EIS in the college of Dry Land Agriculture and Natural Resources, academic community.
