is paper deals with the process of traction force realization described by a suitable mechanical model and is pointed to the adhesion phenomenon as a physical one, i.e. is a suitable factor that the value of traction force depends on. e model for the process of optimizing locomotive traction force based on using the fuzzy set theory is explained. e projecting process of a fuzzy controller regulating the value of skidding and the value of traction torque by increasing the value of traction force that can be realized according to adhesion conditions is described. Finally, testing the optimization model in several numerical examples under speci c conditions of wheel-rail adhesion is done.
Fuzzy model for predicting the number of deformed wheels

Deformation of the wheels damage cars and rails and affect on vehicle stability and safety. Repair and replacement cause high costs and lack of wagons. Planning of maintenance of wagons can not be done without estimates of the number of wheels that will be replaced due to wear and deformation in a given period of time. There are many influencing factors, the most important are: weather conditions, quality of materials, operating conditions, and distance between the two replacements. The fuzzy logic model uses the collected data as input variables to predict the output variable-number of deformed wheels for a certain type of vehicle in the defined period at a particular section of the railway.
Model Updating of a Freight Wagon Based on Dynamic Tests under Different Loading Scenarios

This article presents an efficient methodology for the calibration of a numerical model of a Sgnss freight railway wagon based on experimental modal parameters, namely natural frequencies and mode shapes. Dynamic tests were performed for two distinct static loading configurations, tare weight and current operational overload, under demanding test conditions, particularly during an unloading operation of the train and without disturbing its tight operational schedule. These conditions impose restrictions to the tests, especially regarding the test duration, sensor positioning and system excitation. The experimental setups involve the use of several high-sensitivity accelerometers strategically distributed along with the vehicle platform and bogies in the vertical direction. Implementation of a new bogie concept is an integrated part of the vehicle design which must follow a rigorous testing and validation procedure. Use of multibody simulation helps to reduce the amount of time and effort required in selecting a new concept design by analysing results of simulated dynamic behaviour of the proposed design. However, the multibody simulation software mainly looks at the dynamics of a single vehicle; hence, forces from the train configuration operational dynamics are often absent in such simulations.
Optimization of special freight wagons with small wheel diameter

A better integration and interoperability between rail and road transportation is a key factor in order to reduce pollution and increase railway freight traffic. Development of special freight wagons like "SAADKMS" for the transportation of trucks by railway is a successful solution that is meeting an increasing consensus and popularity among many European countries. In order to accelerate truck loading on wagons and reduce the limitation of normal clearance (structure/vehicle/loading gauges) it is necessary to reduce the wheel diameter as much as possible. This is not a drawback-free solution since an excessive reduction of wheel diameter involves many troubles concerning the stability of the vehicle, maximum axle load, wear of bearings and rolling surfaces of rails and axles. Also designing the braking system is very complicated because the reduced number of encumbrances available makes the placement of internal disks on the axles difficult. In order to solve these problems a very original solution concerning wheelset, wheel profiles and more general bogie design have been applied in the development of "SAADKMS" freight wagons so the resulting vehicle is very different from the conventional one. As a matter of fact, many past experiences and know-how for conventional freight wagons are not applicable for this kind of application, so numerical simulations are very important to deeply understand the behaviour of the system and propose criteria for further optimization. The authors of this paper have developed models on commercial multibody software in order to simulate the behaviour of the "SAADKMS" freight wagon in different conditions (stability, steering performances). Also important results such as position of the contact point or wear-number are shown to be useful parameters for further optimization of the rolling surface profiles.
Study of Dynamic Indicators of Flat Wagon with Load Centre Shift

Purpose. The article deals with the determining the influence of the longitudinal and lateral shift of gravity centre of the heavy load on the flat wagons, taking into account the travel speed based on the main dynamic indicatorsthe maximum coefficients of the dynamic supplement of spring-suspended and unsprung parts, the maximum ratio of frame force to static axle load, the wheel derailment safety factor. Methodology. The study was carried out using the method of mathematical and computer simulation of the dynamic loading of flat wagons based on the model of spatial oscillations of five coupled wagons and the software complex developed in the branch research laboratory of the rolling stock dynamics and strength (BRL RSDS). Theoretical studies were carried out during the movement of the model 13-401 flat wagon on typical 18-100 bogies with speeds in the range from 50 to 90 km/h in curves with radii of 350 and 600 m, with 130 and 120 mm canting, respectively. Findings. The paper presents the analysis of theoretical studies of the rolling stock dynamics on the example of flat wagons. The calculations were carried out using an application software package. In the course of performing theoretical studies and after simulation, taking into account the processes of oscillation of the flat wagon and load in the presence of longitudinal and lateral shift of its gravity centre, the dependences of the main dynamic indicators were obtained with regard to the magnitude of the travel speed. Originality. Using the mathematical model of the five coupled wagons, the effect of shift in two directions from the central symmetry axis of the heavy load centre was studied with regard to the travel speed along the curved track of small and medium radius in order to determine the dynamic loading of the flat wagon. Practical value. As a result of the above theoretical studies, the recommendations on the maximum possible values of the centre shift of heavy loads during their transportation on flat wagons are substantiated and proposed.

Post-planting operations (e.g., fertilizing, cover crop planting) with a tractor and towed cart in standing crop (e.g., corn) are challenging. Tractor and cart should be kept within a certain boundary region to avoid crop damage. An automatic guidance system on the tractor is the solution of the issue; however, tractor’s auto-guidance does not guarantee the cart clear and exact following of the tractor. There is insufficient research in automatic control of a towed cart. Therefore, this research was undertaken to design a controller to manage lateral and longitudinal positions of a tractor-towed cart. Fuzzy Logic-Based Identification of Railway Wheelset Conicity Using Multiple Model Approach

The deterioration of railway wheel tread causes unexpected breakdowns with increasing risk of operational failure leading to higher maintenance costs. The timely detection of wheel faults, such as wheel flats and false flanges, leading to varying conicity levels, helps network operators schedule maintenance before a fault occurs in reality. This study proposes a multiple model-based novel technique for the detection of railway wheelset conicity. The proposed idea is based on an indirect method to identify the actual conicity condition by analyzing the lateral acceleration of the wheelset. It in fact incorporates a combination of multiple Kalman filters, tuned on a particular conicity level, and a fuzzy logic identification system. Determination of the dynamic characteristics of freight wagons with various bogie

In most cases, dynamic characteristics determine the wagon maintenance cycle, traffic safety, reliability and durability performance. The main dynamic indicators include the vertical Kvd and horizontal Khd dynamic coefficients as well as the stability coefficient Ks, which determines the wheel flange resistance to derailment. The article compares dynamic indications for three different types of bogies. There were no tangible differences observed for all the three different types of bogies running at a speed of 40 to 120 km/h on a direct tangent rail section. Nevertheless, there is a realistic potential to improve the dynamic indicators of a freight wagon by rationalising suspension unit parameters.
