The purpose of this study was to describe the knowledge, attitude and practice for core build-up and crowning of endodontically treated teeth in teaching institutes of Multan and to assess the association of clinical experience, work place and qualification on these options. METHODOLOGY: A cross sectional study was conducted using self-applied questionnaire with dentists working in three teaching institutes of Multan from 22nd to 28th October, 2019. The calculated sample size for the total population of 160 was 114 according to Raosoft sample size calculator by keeping the confidence level 95%. A total of 160 questionnaires were distributed. Recovered questionnaires were 148. Response rate was 92%. Information about clinical experience, work place and post-graduation qualification was collected. Data regarding preference of core build-up material, crown material, timing of restoration of endodontically treated teeth (ETT), type of post was collected. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 22, frequencies and percentage were obtained. Association between different variables was calculated using Pearson's chi-square test. RESULTS: Amalgam was preferred as core buildup material on the basis of strength (81%), immediate restoration of ETT was preferred by private sector participants (30%) and restoration after one week was preferred by public sector participants (45.9%). Most of the participants believed core buildup must receive endopost to have better prognosis (60%). Majority preferred prefabricated endopost (50%) over custom made post (33%). Bioinformation
Dental caries is a serious oral health concern and restoration of teeth is the main solution to this issue. Various restorative materials having different properties are used for posterior restoration. The aim of this study was to find that which factors can affect the choice of selection of material for posterior restoration among dental graduate students. For this purpose, a questionnaire was shared electronically among students of three different universities (King Khalid University, Jazan University, and Najran University). After collection, data were subjected to a chi-square test to check the significance. It has been observed that almost 50% of participants choose composite resin for posterior restoration. INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of dental practitioners' genders and number of years of experience on their attitudes, preferences, and clinical behavior regarding the repair of amalgam and direct composite resin restorations. METHODS: A five-item questionnaire comprising multiple-choice questions was emailed to dentists in Turkey via the Turkish Dental Association (TDA). The data obtained from responses to the questionnaire were analyzed using a chi-square test to make comparisons between genders, length of experience, and responses regarding restoration repair at a significance level of α<0.05 (IBM SPSS Statistics v23.0 software). Categorical variables were presented numerically and as percentages. RESULTS: The questionnaire was answered by 816 dentists, most of whom practiced restoration repair (n=671; 82.2%). A high percentage (85.8%, n=700) of the dentists prioritized repairing restorations that they had previously made. Gender and length of experience had a significant effect on the preferences, attitudes, and clinical behavior of dentists (p<0.05). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: According to the results, gender and length of experience had a significant effect on the preferences, attitudes, and clinical behavior of dentists regarding restoration repair. Nonetheless, it was found that 4.8% of the dentists (n=39) did not prefer to repair the amalgam restorations regardless of their gender or experience.
