Developing English for Tourism and Hospitality Materials based on Banyuwangi Local Needs

The Ministry of Education and Culture stepped up the connect-and-match effort by creating a teaching factory to combine vocational education with the industrial world. The program's goal is to increase the number of graduates from vocational schools who are employed as trained and qualified human resources (HR) to meet the demands of the sector. The suitability and relevance of the material to local needs, especially in the world of tourism in Banyuwangi should be included in the learning materials. In order to establish a link and match, it is required to conduct a thorough examination of the development of learning instruments. The purpose of this study is to develop English for Tourism and Hospitality teaching materials in accordance with the local needs of the tourism industry in Banyuwangi. This research was an R & D (Research and Development) using the ADDIE model. The results showed that the English for Tourism and Hospitality materials that would be applied to the Tourism Business Management Study Program, Banyuwangi State Polytechnic were relatively varied and diverse which was divided into two parts, namely materials that reflect the Banyuwangi local culture such as Gedhogan, Kemiren, Gandrung Sewu, Barong Kemiren, Seblang Dance, Ngopi Sepuluh Ewu, Ijen Blue Fire, Tumpeng Sewu Festival, Red Island, as well as additional materials related to hospitality such as Hotel, Restaurant, and Travel Agent..

Hospitality industry is one of the important sectors to play roles in the economic and tourism growth in Kebumen. Therefore, keeping this industry to be competitive in the future seems to be urgent. Hotel owners need to improve the quality of human resources, mainly the English communication skills. This research describes and analyzes needs and problems of English for hospitality industry at Meotel Hotel Kebumen. It involved 20 experienced hotel employees at the research site as the participants. Questionnaires were used in the data collection. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The findings proved that the skills needed from the most required to the least one are speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The three most dominant language uses are to give services, to give information, and to give help. Tourism is a very important sector in Albania's economy. With the promotion of tourist attractions, the number of foreign tourists has increased significantly. Language is of great importance for the communication of foreign tourists to tourist destinations. Today English is an international language and most tourist businesses require employees to speak English except the local language of the country. In this paper we will present a theoretical discussion on the importance and necessity of the English language in the development of the tourism sector from the point of view of tourist services providers and specifically hotel businesses. To fulfill the purpose of this search, the data collection was done by a self-administered questioner with closed thematic questions, with alternatives addressed to the service employees in tourism destinations in Durres, Shëngjin and Sarandë. The overall data collection of 250 questionnaires and total of 195 questionnaires were collected. Through descriptive analysis we have taken a picture of the characteristics of the monster in study according to the data of the structured questionnaire, respectively: Part 1 (socio-demographic characteristics), Part 2 (business stuff), (location and classification), Part 3 (language knowledge and opinion on its importance for employment in tourist businesses in Albania. The data was collected in January 2023. Language has great importance in the dialogue and understanding between tourists and tourist facilities. And the English today is international language, and most of the tourist establishments require employees to speak English in addition the local language of the country because the English now has become the familiar language for almost all human beings. There are a lot of institutes that give courses in language. As the tourism need to friction with foreigners directly so we will focus in this paper on the importance of the English language in the bi Sector Development. This paper also encourages practitioners to pay attention on the language issue. Collaboration among educational providers and tourism organizations is required if they want to compete in the global market.
The purposes of this research were to investigate needs of the tourism personnel for tourism English communication and to provide appropriate guidelines for designing innovation on tourism English communication for them. The population consisted of officials of Muang Tam Sanctuary, salespersons at souvenir shops and foreign tourists. The sample size was 21 salespersons at souvenir shops and ten foreign tourists, selected from the population using a purposive sampling method. The research instruments were composed of the focus group discussion and two sets of questionnaire which were administered to those Thai respondents and ten foreign tourists. An important component in the tourism industry is the human resource. The human resource factor plays an eminent role in promoting the image of the country as a top tourism spot. A Needs Analysis on Stakeholders and Elt Students to Develop English for Tourism Course Material

This study investigates the needs of tourism stakeholders and students of the English Education Department to develop the English for Tourism (EFT) course material. The participants were ten hotel managers, five travel agents, and 86 second-semester students of the English Education Department. This descriptive quantitative study employed a questionnaire as the primary tool to gather the data adapted from Puspitasari (2018) and Ratmanida et al. (2020). The data then were analyzed using the formula of percentage and mean range table to determine the level of needs from the responses. The results indicated that the stakeholders and students agreed that speaking (100%) and writing (90%) were the most needed English skills to acquire. Then, in terms of the EFT topics, the participants responded to the topics that were relevant with their needs or fields.
