Topology Optimization of an Aircraft Bracket Without Shape Control
2020
Topology optimization is a simulation driven design technique used for creating an efficient material layout for a given design region, constraints and loading conditions. The goal is to maximize the system’s performance while minimizing the weight and meeting other functional requirements. The aim of this work is to optimize an existing aircraft bracket using Topology optimization technique. Topology optimization is performed in Altair Inspire software without using any shape control on the basis of five-volume retentions. Volume is specified as 20%, 30% 40%, 50% and 60% of the total design space volume. Post optimization analysis of all the five optimized geometries is carried out. Finally, one model based on optimum results is selected and the smoothing process is carried out using Polynurbs fit tool. The Final optimized model has a weight reduction of 46% and a significant stress reduction of 28%, 54.4%, 49.8% and 47.7% in vertical, horizontal, oblique and torsional load cases r...

An important problem in automotive industry is how to achieve better design concepts by considering structure performance and manufacturing cost in the early stages of product development. The topology design and optimisation provide an initial design concept for downstream applications, which leads to achieving better design by using computer-aided techniques. In this research, engine mount bracket design is presented to illustrate the application of topology optimisation approach for optimal design of vehicle components under dynamic loading conditions. In this technique the material layout is optimized within sets of design constraints limit based on the feature of either Mass constraint Algorithms or Volume constraints Algorithm where the aim is to eliminate the stiff part of material which is assigned by pseudo density factor.

Topology optimization of engine bracket arm using BESO
International Journal for Simulation and Multidisciplinary Design Optimization
An engine bracket is one of the most critical components of the engine used for mounting and supporting the engine in the vehicles. Today, the automobile industry requires lightweight components, which will reduce the car's overall weight when fitted into the vehicle. Topology optimization is a technique with the help of which the surface of a component is optimized to get the required shape for having reduced weight. The weight is reduced by optimizing the material on the surface of the details. In this paper, the work done is the application of topology optimization on the surface of the engine bracket arm. Then the optimized model is tested computationally using realistic conditions. Bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization is used as a technique for topology optimization. With the help of the BESO method, the material optimization is done, and then the weights are compared with the original component. A new algorithm is developed using MATLAB codes. The sensitivit...
STRUCTURAL OPTIMIZATION OF AN L-SHAPED BRACKET SUBJECTED TO DIFFERENT LOADING CONDITIONS
International Research Journal of Modernization in Engineering Technology and Science, 2020
Topology optimization is a very powerful tool in many areas of design such as optics, electronics and structural mechanics. The field materialized from structural design and so topology optimization applied in this context is also known as structural optimization. In this work, a software based approach for topology optimization of an L-shaped bracket to achieve 60% weight reduction subjected to various loading conditions is presented through a commercially available finite element simulation software. The effect of varying the loading conditions on topology and final compliance together with the von-Misses stress value of the L-shaped bracket is presented here. Also determine if weight reduction pockets can be generated in the L-shaped structure and redesign the structure based on the results from topology optimization, and conduct parametric optimization to minimize weight subject to the deformation constraint.
Topology Optimization Of The Plastic Holder By Computational Methods
Component weight reduction is one of the biggest trends today, and not just in the automotive and aerospace industries. Topological optimization is a method by which we can obtain structures with significantly reduced weight with unchanged function and component safety. This article deals with the topological optimization of a plastic bracket made by additive manufacturing. Topology optimization and subsequent verification of the suitability of the new optimized model will be performed based on three independent static structural simulations using Ansys. The holder is made of ABS plastic.
STRUCTURAL WEIGHT OPTIMIZATION OF A BRACKET USING ANSYS
The paper deals with the design optimization of a bracket with Finite Element Analysis using ANSYS software. A procedure has been developed for the optimum design of a bracket in ANSYS software. The function design emphasize that structure will not fail, but some aspects like dimensions of structure can also be improved. In the paper, the volume of a bracket is optimized. A mathematical model is developed for the bracket based on its volume. It consists of objective function, design variable and state variable. ANSYS software is used to find the result in which the safe designing will be done by the help of the optimization algorithm. A series of the analysis were carried out searching for the minimum volume by changing the dimensions each time. A best design set is obtained from many feasible design sets. The best design set gives the best dimensions of the chosen parameter resulting in the optimized volume at the same strength. The optimized volume resulting the saving in structural weight.
