Municipal solid waste management is a big environmental and health challenge for local governments around the world, especially in the developing countries. Normally, every local government takes responsibility to management waste as Tha Khon Yang (TKY) Sub-district Municipality (TKYSM) needs to respond to MSWM in Tha Khon Yang-the case study area in Maha Sarakham Province in Thailand. TKY is facing the huge waste generated problems due to rapid growth of a temporary population and increasing commercial activity. To determine appropriate changes, a variety of perspectives from stakeholders around waste management are needed. With limitations of budget and capacity of the TKYSM, the implementation plan should be focused on managing waste at sources, instead of prioritizing waste collection and transport waste to landfill. The recommendations for improving MSWM include developing an the operational MSWM system that appropriate for each group of waste producers, developing both short and long implementation plans, establishing and educating a waste management team and a system for monitoring and paying waste system fees, raising awareness of residents to encourage people to manage waste properly at the source.
A Study of Municipal Solid Waste Management in Mandalay City
Solid waste management is one of the major issues regarding the environment particularly in the metropolis of many developed and developing Asian countries. The consequences of this management affect both the environment and public health. Mandalay is the second-largest city in Myanmar, with a population of 1.3 million. With the density of the population, the total garbage generation rate is 1020 tonnes per day, and the collection rate was 800 tonnes per day in 2016. Solid waste is a major issue, and collection is a priority action for Mandalay to become a green smart city. The objective of this study is to assess the current status and problems regarding solid waste management in Mandalay. This study intends to discuss how to overcome the problems being faced and recommend strategies in managing the solid waste. This is exploratory research which uses a qualitative approach to data collection and analysis of, primary reports, the secondary documents, article from open literature and relevant websites. Respective departmental persons from the Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC) were interviewed. This study will help to promote the knowledge of the people and the city's sustainable growth. With limited revenue and insufficient facilities, the conventional way of managing solid wastes as the sole responsibility of a single body is facing constraints. In the case of Mandalay, the MSW problems include lack of resources, improper collection and management of disposal sites, and a lack of awareness and cooperation from the public concerning solid waste management. It is necessary to do making research in areas such as environmental awareness and, the policy of public services delivery from the central government.

Solid Waste Management in Sub-Urban Area: A Case Study on Savar Municipality
Savar municipality has been facing rapid population growth, urbanization and industrialization. Solid waste generation had reached to the value 51, 016 kg/day on the basis of per capita waste generation 0.40 kg /day. Savar Municipal Authority is the only responsible organization for solid waste management (45% of total generated wastes) of its nine wards (17.15 km 2 ). Questionnaire survey and interview were conducted to collect primary data regarding solid waste generation and its management. GIS technique was used to define the current solid waste management practice of Savar municipality. About 80% of food wastes were calculated from the collected samples. Lack of waste bins and improper installment and lack of disposal sites were the main causes of improper solid waste management. An adequate and integrated SWM was suggested in for efficient solid waste management of Savar municipality. Waste minimization, segregation of wastes, door to door waste collection, participation of Community Based Organizations (CBOs), composting, energy generation and sanitary land filling were integrated to manage about 75% of the total generated solid wastes.
Municipal Solid Waste Management In Visakhapatnam City, India
Management of solid waste is a major challenge for most of the urban local bodies in developing countries primarily due to the rising urban population and per capita waste generation rate. Improper management of municipal solid waste leads to repulsive condition of streets and spreading of diseases. The present study is an attempt to evaluate the user satisfaction on the performance of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) with regard to solid waste management. The findings of the study are going to be useful to the urban local bodies and GVMC in particular to identify the performance gaps and to initiate measures for further improvement.

Solid waste collection and transportation system is one of the important elements in solid waste management. Population growth and rapid economic development requires an effective solid waste collection and transportation system. Environmental issues are nowadays some of the most topical issues in the world. With the rapid development of cities and the increase of population, urban waste management is facing with new pressures and challenges with major potential impacts on the urban environment. The increasing quantity of solid wastes is a growing environmental problem in developing countries like Bangladesh. Pabna Pourashava is one of the oldest Pourashava in Bangladesh and it was established in 1876. The area of the Pourashava is about 16 sq km and its population is 1,27,319.These population generates a massive quantity of solid waste everyday from various sources. According to the Pourashava, at present approximately 52 metric tons of solid waste generate per day. With the existing resources, the Pourashava is able to collect approximately 31 metric tons and dispose of it every day. The rest is lettered around. This research tried to investigate the present solid waste management practice in Pabna municipal area especially in Ward 01 and 02 intensively. It was revealed from the study that majority people of the study area dumps the produced solid waste in their living surroundings which produce various hazards in human health and environmental problems. Moreover lack of adequate budget for waste management some problems appear like as lack of available transport vehicles for waste management, lack of solid waste treatment plant etc. But this improper waste management can be managed by the regularity of management work, building awareness of the people. The municipality and other related NGOs should work together to solve these issues. The total solid waste management system required following the recommendation which include proper planning, creating awareness, developing infrastructure, providing logistic support and finally involving NGOs & public in this process and by this process sustainable solid waste management can be established which can lead the studied area to a healthy setting.
A STUDY ON MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT IN VISAKHAPATNAM CITY
Municipal solid waste management is a problem that is experienced by all counties in the world. Because of its nature, it has remained one of the major environmental problems man continues to face. Municipal solid waste management is considered as one of the most serious environmental and social problems challenging municipal authorities in all major cities in India. Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is facing lot of hardship in day to day management and maintenance of solid waste management. Therefore the present study was taken to find out the problems and prospects of Municipal solid waste in Visakhapatnam city. A detailed investigation was made regarding the methods of practices associated with sources, quantity generated, collection, transportation, storage, treatment and disposal of Municipal solid waste in Visakhapatnam city. The data concerning to SWM in Visakhapatnam was obtained through questionnaire, individual field visit, interacting with people and authentic record of municipal corporation. Photographic evidences were also made about generation, storage, collection, transportation, treatment and disposal of MSW. The study reveals the issues to be addressed for a more effective and efficient solid waste management practices in Visakhapatnam city as per Municipal Solid Waste (Management & Handling) Rules 2000.

The problem of municipal solid waste (MSW) is closely related to slums, where houses in slums are stilt house and near the river, and making area under the house as the place of the garbage disposal place which is relatively difficult to clean. Lawang Kidul is a village that has the largest slum area among other villages and located on the edge of Musi River at Palembang City. One cause of slum is a problem of household waste that is not routinely transported to the garbage disposal place around 62,48%, causing garbage to scattered around the resident houses, even not infrequently throw garbage into rivers and waterways. Assessment of Municipal Solid Waste Management System in a Developing Country
This study represents a few basic steps of municipal solid waste management practiced in the six major cities of Bangladesh, namely, Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barisal, and Sylhet. A six-month field study was conducted to identify the solid wastes management steps such as storage at source, separation, on-site storage, collection, transportation, treatment, reuse, recycling, and ultimate disposal. This study addresses the role of the city authority to meet the demand of the city dwellers in solving this emerging socioenvironmental issue and the initiatives taken by some nongovernmental organizations and community based organizations. The problems and constraints of the solid wastes management system are also identified to find a sustainable management concept for the urban areas of Bangladesh.
