To enable the students, appreciate the significance of numerical methods for solving engineering problems. Course content Introduction to Numerical analysis, solution of non-linear equations, regression and interpolation, numerical differentiation and integration, initial value problems for ordinary differential equations, numerical optimization, Floating point number system, error analysis, solutions of equations, interpolation, splines, numerical differentiation and integration, numerical methods in linear algebra, system of linear equations, method of least squares, eigen values, eigen vectors, solution of ordinary and partial differential equations. This subject is to be supplemented with extensive computer exercises.
