Location-Based Services in the Mobile Communications Industry
2006
Abstract Advances in wireless communications and information technology have made the mobile Web a reality. The mobile Web is the response to the need for anytime, anywhere access to information and services. Many wireless applications have already been deployed and are available to customers via their mobile phones and wirelessly connected PDAs (personal digital assistants). However, developing the “killer” wireless application is still a goal for the industry rather than a reality.
Location Based Services using Android Mobile Operating System
The motivation for every location based information system is: "To assist with the exact information, at right place in real time with personalized setup and location sensitiveness". In this era we are dealing with palmtops and iPhones, which are going to replace the bulky desktops even for computational purposes. We have vast number of applications and usage where a person sitting in a roadside café needs to get relevant data and information. Such needs can only be catered with the help of LBS. These applications include security related jobs, general survey regarding traffic patterns, decision based on vehicular information for validity of registration and license numbers etc. A very appealing application includes surveillance where instant information is needed to decide if the people being monitored are any real threat or an erroneous target. We have been able to create a number of different applications where we provide the user with information regarding a place he or she wants to visit. But these applications are limited to desktops only. We need to import them on mobile devices. We must ensure that a person when visiting places need not carry the travel guides with him. All the information must be available in his mobile device and also in user customized format.
Location-based Services: A study on applications and services
2018
The proliferation of location services and location determination in mobile devices had broaden the landscape for the development of heterogeneous Location-based Services (LBS). The correlation of LBS applications, mobile devices and facilitating technology is a complex issue due to its diversity, hence there are immense contextual definitions of LBS. This study, review the applications and services of LBS in order to provide a common classified LBS applications and services to date. The literature reviews of LBS definitions, standards and guidelines, LBS architecture, LBS components and the most common classification of LBS application and services were attained.
Services and Applications Based on Mobile User’s Location Detection and Prediction
Int'l J. of Communications, Network and System Sciences, 2013
Many wireless applications are deployed and available to customers via their mobile phones. Variety of these applications and services are based on determination of the current or future location of mobile user. Location based services (LBS) are one of the vital applications which are subdivided into two main categories: economical category and public category. Economic applications include mobile marketing, entertainment and tracking applications. Whereas, emergency cases, safety, traffic management, Muslims' applications and public information applications are sort of public applications. The first part of the paper presents a new proposed system with developed procedure to recreate public and economic applications with high positioning accuracy and good authentication of users' data. The developed system is created to enhance both location based services and network allocation resources within mobile network platform using either normal or GPS supported mobile equipment. The second part of the paper introduces future location prediction of mobile user dependent applications. New algorithm is developed depending on utilizing both intra-cell Movement Pattern algorithm (ICMP) [1] and hybrid uplink time Difference of Arrival and Assisted GPS technique (UTDOA_AGPS) [2]. It has been noticed that ICMP algorithm outperforms other future location prediction algorithms with high precision and within suitable time (less than 220) msec. However, UTDOA_AGPS guarantees high precession of mobile user independent of the surrounding environment. The proposed technique is used to enhance reliability and efficiency of location based services using cellular network platform.
Study on location based services
2010
The structure of my thesis consists of two parts. In Part I, I will explain what location based service is and a short note about GSM network architecture. The thesis will then present some ideas about how SMS service work. Finally, I will finish my Part I by providing a brief idea of how we can find present location of a user in GSM network architecture. Part II of the thesis will focus on presenting some mobile applications which give location based services. Then my thesis will explain the requirements and implementations of those applications. The thesis will also examine testing phases and results of my applications. The conclusion of this thesis includes the challenges of my applications and its corresponding solutions along with my future works in this field .
A Systematic Approach for Developing Mobile Information System based on Location Based Services
Network Protocols and Algorithms, 2010
This paper describes the mechanism of some novice location based services that can be used over the Mobile Information System frame work that we have developed. In this paper, a simple and innovative network based mobile information system technique is introduced, that provides extensive flexibility at the user end. This paper discusses the methodology adopted for the design and simulation of location based friend finder and location based web tracking services. Both these services are integrated with the real-time billing system. An advance technology of using spatial triggers is introduced that results in a cost-effective solution for mobile companies.
Location-Based Services in a Smartphone
Bonfring International Journal of Software Engineering and Soft Computing, 2016
The aim of this research is to give promote knowledge into conceivable outcomes to PDA cutting edge Location Based Services (LBS) applications, including a more noteworthy comprehension of usage and design contemplations, and future patterns in LBS. This report traces the ebb and flow condition of LBS innovation, inquire about into the vital issues of keeping up client security, and future patterns, for example, enhanced perception through enlarged reality and moves towards connection based registering and Semantic Web. What's more, more critically to plan and compose Android Application to make "Customary neighborhood news media". Customary neighborhood news media: It is like nearby news coverage beginning from a little city and extending this application to reach to a national level to cover whole nation. We begin with the neighborhood daily paper's plan of action all the while. The online networking grabs the tattles from your group of friends and intrigue bunches, pulling perusers' consideration far from the printed page. Safe to say, it's been something of an immaculate tempest misusing customary neighborhood news media. Alongside which the entrance of this is made through the cellps for the cell phone.
Location-based services: technical and business issues
GPS Solutions, 2002
Geographical Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) technologies are expanding their traditional applications to embrace a stream of consumer-focused, location-based applications. Through an integration with handheld devices capable of wireless communication and mobile computing, a wide range of what might be generically referred to as "Location-Based Services" (LBS) may be offered to mobile users.
Location Based Services on Mobile E-Commerce
2012
Mobile e-commerce (m-commerce) is defined as all activities related to a commercial transaction conducted through communications networks that interface with wireless (or mobile) devices. It is started recently to appear in the scene by exploiting the advantages of internet, mobile computing and mobile communications in order to provide a large number of advanced services to mobile users. In this paper we concentrate on special case of M-commerce are Location Based Services (LBS) where often the actual position of the terminal is used in the service provision. A Location-Based Service (LBS) is a mobile computing application that provides information and functionality to users based on their geographical location. As technology is an important facilitator and at the same time a limiting factor, we review the technology aspects relevant for LBS.
