Clinical audit is a quality improvement process that seeks to improve imaging standards through a systematic review of the practice. In radiography, clinical audits have been part of quality assurance (QA) for a long time, but less attention was paid to this important quality improvement activity. Nonetheless, in the last decade, it has received more attention globally due patient’s concerns and demands for quality of imaging services. This has resulted in the publications of guidelines from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the European Commission (EC). Despite this, literature from a radiography perspective on how to conduct a successful clinical audit to impact knowledge and skills to radiographers is limited. This article discusses the process involved in conducting a successful clinical audit, with the aim of providing guidelines to radiographers and other healthcare professionals, such as medical doctors and nurses.
