Many definitions of plagiarism fall under the core concept of any activity in using, imitating or owning partially or completely of ideas, thoughts, works, and organizations from others without appropriate cita-tion and acknowledgement. Since this academic dishonesty has negative impacts, it needs to be overcome. It seems that plagiarism has not been seen as misconduct in higher education in some developing countries including in Indonesia which might be affected by cultural, economic, and technological issues. The research aimed at exploring the perceptions of Indonesian student teachers towards plagiarism in four higher education institutions. The research was undertaken as a mixed-method research. Questionnaire and face to face interviews were the instruments to collect data. EFL students' views, experiences, and expectations toward plagiarism practices in Indonesian higher education

This research investigates the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students' views, experiences, and expectations toward plagiarism practices in Indonesian higher education. The researchers employed a qualitative method with a case study approach. Ten EFL students conveniently participated in this study. The data were obtained through semi-structured interviews. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis. This study showed that EFL students view plagiarism as an act of taking someone's idea, a bad habit, intentional and unintentional. EFL students' experience with plagiarism revealed that they committed plagiarism due to a lack of understanding and unfamiliarity with the plagiarism concept. Besides, the students reported being too lazy and less likely to read. EFL students expect to reduce plagiarism by being more active in reading and providing free workshop seminars, and lecturers must strictly apply the rules. Plagiarism is serious misconduct for all of the academicians in the world, including Papua, Indonesia. This paper aims at exploring the Papuan students’ perceptions on plagiarism. This paper focused on the students’ knowledge on plagiarism, the students ‘experience in plagiarism, and the strategy to avoid plagiarism. This paper employed a descriptive qualitative design investigating the students’ perception of plagiarism in Fattahul Muluk State Islamic Institute of Papua. Australian and Indonesian University Students'Understanding of Plagiarism

This article is part of a larger report of research which explored and compared Australian and Indonesian university students' attitudes toward plagiarism, understanding of plagiarism, and understanding of university policy on plagiarism. It focuses on whether or not Australian and Indonesian students differed in their understanding of the notion of plagiarism and its various forms. Data of the Australian and Indonesian subjects' understanding of plagiarism were gained using a questionnaire and focus group interviews. The results showed that the Australian students were more knowledgeable of the notion of plagiarism and its various forms than the Indonesian students. The differences may be attributed to the academic context of the study. The Indonesian students were not familiar with the Western norm in academic writing, the norm which is regularly practiced in the Australian context. This study strongly recommends that the Indonesian students' awareness of plagiarism be increased in order to avoid plagiarism.

Plagiarism is currently an essential issue in academic world. Huge vailable free sources on internet give the probability that sources are abusively used. This study intended to find out the students’ perception on plagiarism. EFL students in Singaraja, Bali were purposively selected as the participants of the study. The students were interviewed regarding how they perceive plagiarism. The interview covered questions on students’ knowledge on plagiarism, experience in plagiarism and expectation for the university regarding plagiarism issue. In term of knowledge, the students understood plagiarism as to copy-paste. They claimed never caught doing plagiarism even they had done plagiarism. They also expected the teacher and university to have a clear instruction on what to do and what to avoid. Conducting study on larger sample by implementing questionnaire are encouraged.

Perceptions on Plagiarism and the Implications for Teaching and Learning Strategies at an Emi University in Indonesia

This study tries to answer two questions, namely 1) What do the lecturers and the students perceive about the practice of plagiarism in L2 writing? 2) What strategies did the lecturers and the students apply to writing L2 to avoid plagiarism? This study aimed at investigating the views of lecturers and students on plagiarism and its implications for teaching and learning at one of the EMI universities in Indonesia. The findings showed that both lecturers and students had negative views towards plagiarism. However, even though plagiarism was considered as an unacceptable behavior, the students would be likely to commit plagiarism under certain circumstances. Back translation was also found to be the most common strategy that the students used to avoid plagiarism. The study finally recommended higher education institutions to equip students with necessary language and writing skills needed in academic settings as early as possible in order for them to avoid plagiarism.

Examining students’ perceptions of plagiarism: A cross-cultural study at tertiary level

Plagiarism continues to dominate the academic world as one of its greatest challenges, and the existing literature suggests cross-cultural investigation of this critical issue may help all shareholders who detect, are confronted by and struggle with this issue to address it. Therefore, the present study, drawing upon a cross-cultural investigation using a questionnaire, aimed to investigate the differences between three groups of students, namely, Turkish (n = 106), Georgian (n = 83) and German (n = 72) regarding their tendency to conduct academic theft. It also investigated ways in which to plagiarise and reasons for and awareness of this issue. The results show that lack of time, busy schedules and weak academic writing skills are the most frequent reasons for plagiarism. However, in contrast to previous studies, the role of the Internet was found to be minimal in relation to increasing plagiarism. It is also worth noting that the German participants were found to have a higher level of sensitivity to this academic malpractice and were seen to be much more successful at identifying it. The article concludes with workable suggestions on how to discourage academic theft at universities.

University Students’ Perception toward Plagiarism

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki persepsi siswa terhadap plagiarisme, alasan siswa untuk melakukan plagiarisme dan cara siswa untuk menghindari plagiarisme di Universitas khususnya Bali Utara. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran sekuensial eksplanatif dengan 175 siswa dari berbagai departemen dan fakultas. Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan wawancara. Kuesioner terdiri dari 30 item pernyataan tentang konsep plagiarisme, pengalaman siswa pada jenis plagiarisme, alasan siswa melakukan plagiarisme dan cara siswa untuk menghindari plagiarisme. Data penelitian ini dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata persepsi mahasiswa terhadap plagiarisme adalah 3.9981 yang masuk dalam rentangan 3.69665 4.64995. Berdasarkan dari kualifikasi level dari rata-rata persepsi mahasiswa terhadap mahasiswa dikategorikan tinggi dan kualifikasinya positive. Berarti siswa memahami tentang plagiarisme dengan baik. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa mahasiswa mengerti tentang plagiarisme. Dari hasil tersebut, siswa diharapkan untuk menghindari plagiarisme dalam menyelesaikan tugas apapun. Untuk penelitian lebih lanjut disarankan melakukan penelitian yang serupa dengan peserta yang lebih besar.
