Abstract
2 HomeworkHomework at Welwyn St Mary’s follows the syllabus and is similar to that in other schools. We have a homework policy which encourages parents to support their childrens’ learning particularly with reading and times tables. It allows children to build on what they have learned in class and show creativity in projects. It shows parents what their children are learning and how they are doing and provides an important bond as well as getting children accustomed to dedicating some time at home to their learning. Nevertheless, some children are feeling under pressure from their homework and some find they have to miss their break to finish it off if they have not been able to complete it at home. Some parents tell us it encroaches on other aspects of family life and other forms of learning. In addition, parents found holiday homework arduous in particular if the timelines were short.
