The history of women"s education in modern India is closely interwoven with the history of social reform and politics in the 19 th century. It is not that women had no skills or knowledge but education then meant learning the sacred scriptures. This was achieved mostly through oral tradition. Amongst the Hindus, only the upper caste learned the religious texts. Today, almost half of the population in India is occupied by women. They are half of the human resources. But it is very unfortunate to say that for long years there has been a strong bias against women and thereby there is a tendency to deny the equal socioeconomic opportunity for them. This neglecting attitude towards women is prominent in many respects particularly in the field of education. None can deny the fact that education is the fundamental agents for the socioeconomic development of a country. But women access in the domain of education has not been fairly treated. Education: Education has a special significance in the context of a quasi-traditional or transitional society like India. The inducement of social change is one of the fundamental functions of education. The report of Indian education commission (1964-66) stated: "The realization of the country"s aspirations involves changes in the knowledge, skills, and values of the people as a whole. If this "change in a grand scale" is to be achieved without a violent revolution there is one and only instrument that is used-Education".
Development of Women Education in India
2010
Women constitute almost half of the population of the world. Education for women is the best way to improve the health, nutrition and economic status of a household that constitute a micro unit of a nation economy. In this context, it can be argued that lack of woman education can be an impediment to the country’s economic development. In India, women achieve far less education that of men. As per the Census report 2001, the literacy rate of women is 54.16 per cent and that of men is 65.38 per cent. There has been a sincere effort to improve the education attainment of women by both government and voluntary organizations. The changes in the policies and infrastructural supports on primary, secondary and higher education reflect the initiatives of the Government of India towards women education. This paper examined the trends in women education, the investments on education and infrastructural supports in India. The study revealed that there had been significant progress in the perfo...

WOMEN AND INDIAN HIGHER EDUCATION: CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS
Higher Education as a policy intervention is a force multiplier that enables self-sufficiency, enhances economic growth by enriching skills, and improves people's lives by opening up opportunities for better living. The history of the world is witness to how education can bring in socioeconomic mobility and acts as an agent of affirmative change. For centuries women, which constitute almost half the population of the world were deprived of their most basic rights including education. Despite significant progress made in enrolment in elementary education in the past century, women's enrolment in higher education remains much lower in comparison to men. In a developing country like India, where the plight of women is deplorable for ages, the education of women is imperative for their upliftment. My paper aims to analyse the challenges posed to women's enrollment in higher education, the reasons for their lower participation, and to provide the solution for breaking the stereotyping and sex isolation. The paper analyses the initiatives of the New Education Policy 2020 for the inclusion of women. This paper will examine the inclusion of women not only in terms of enrollment in higher studies but also inclusion in curriculum, teaching, and pedagogies which makes learning more meaningful and participative.
Status of Women Education in India
shanlax journal, 2020
Women in India, despite being half of the population, do not represent themselves in educationrelated indicators with the same magnitude. Prima facie, it can be said that we achieved 100 percent enrolment and gained 1.01 in the gender parity index at the primary level. However, when in-depth analysis is done considering the quality aspects and women's participation in the labor force, we will find gender biases at all levels. The girls' enrolment is significantly low as compared to their male counterparts in private schools, in high-end technological and management institute, and professional courses. In addition to that, girls are lagging in cognitive skills, Maths, and reading abilities. In a nutshell, girls are still struggling to be on par with their male counterparts to get quality and professional education. Parental behavior, intra-household resource allocation, cultural norms, safety, discrimination at the workplace can be attributed to these discrepancies. The present paper will analyze the status of women in educational development, factors, and determinants associated with disparity, and government policies for upliftment of women's situation in education.
WOMEN EDUCATION IN INDIA: need of the hour
Women are an important section of our society. It is indeed ridiculous and unreasonable to deny women from various rights even though they perform functions and assume responsibilities without however getting the benefits that accrue to men for the same. Education of women is the most powerful tool of change of position in society. Women education in India has been a need of the hour, as education is a foundation stone for the empowerment of woman. Educated women not only be disposed to uphold education of their girl children, but also can provide better supervision to all their children. They are essential possessions of a lively humanity required for national improvement, so if we have to see a bright future of women in our country, giving education to them must be a pre-occupation.
