Dynamics of Dropout of Students in Government Schools: A Case Study of Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Abstract: A student leaving school for any reason except death is termed as dropout. Developed countries face dropout problem largely due to social, while developing countries confront it mainly due to economic reasons. This study investigates into important dynamics of dropout in the study area, with special focus on its gender wise prevalence in various classes and its comparison with other districts of the province. Besides, it finds out the key factors leading to dropout in the study area. In order to achieve objectives of the study, primary data was collected through questionnaires, interviews and field observations, while secondary data was obtained from the provincial and district offices of Education Management Information System (EMIS); District Census Report; government’s reports, research papers and books etc. The findings show that dropout rate is alarmingly high in Lower Dir, standing at 6th in the list of worst dropout rate amongst 24 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The highest dropout rate was found in class 9th with about 65% for both sexes, and about 85 % for girls, which is significantly higher than the provincial 42 % dropout rate. Furthermore, the analysis reveals that poverty contributes about 60% to dropout while other main factors like lack of educational facilities in schools, remoteness of schools from homes, especially the secondary schools for girls having no proper transport, parents’ behavior about female education are responsible for this dropout. The study provides useful suggestions to help control dropout and promote education in the study area, and, elsewhere in the province.

The titled study is concerned with the dropout of females from secondary schools in District Bajaur due to the economic impediments of the study population. A sample size of 169 respondents was taken possessively by using Sekaran criteria. A cross-sectional study design was developed for the collection of data according to the conceptual framework showing the dependent variable (Nature of Drop out) and independent variable (Economic Impediments). Furthermore,Uni variate and Bi-variate analysis was conducted through the use of SPSS software. The phenomenon of university dropout is met in all universities in the world and its effects are felt both at the economic level, at the level of society and at the personal level of students who abandon the university. Factors leading to university dropout may be of a social nature (student background, income level, so on.), psycho-pedagogical (inadequate academic training, inconsistency between prior training and university studies, lack of counseling services, so on)and personal (poor adaptability to the university, low levels of socio-emotional intelligence, so on). Universities need to cope with this phenomenon and adapt and develop prevention and intervention services so that students' retention rate rises. The paper analyzes this phenomenon in The Bucharest University of Economic Studies and identifies possible solutions for diminishing the phenomenon.

Dropout students are a severe problem in higher education (HE) in many countries. Student dropout has a tremendous negative impact not only on individuals but also on universities and socioeconomic. Consequently, preventing educational dropouts is a considerable challenge for HE’s institutions. Therefore, knowing the factors influencing student dropout is an essential first step in preventing students from dropping out. This study uses a mix of qualitative and quantitative approaches. To determine what variables affect student dropout, we use a qualitative approach, after which the variables found will be validated by the public and stakeholders using a quantitative approach. Then, the next step is to classify variables using a quantitative approach. This study observes dropout students at private universities in Central Java, Indonesia.
