The Role of Multinational Enterprises in Globalization: An Empirical Overview
The activities of multinational enterprises drive the economic globalization process to a very large degree. This paper lists some facts about their dominant role in all channels of globalization. Therefore, the importance of multinational enterprises in foreign direct investment and production abroad is examined as well as their contributions to the international transfer of knowledge and technology and to foreign trade. It is argued that economic theory must account for multinationals' activities in the analysis of the globalization process.

Overview of Performances Achieved by Multinational Companies in the Globalization Era
International Journal of Future Computer and Communication, 2012
The focus of this paper is to give an insight into the issue of multinational companies (MNCs) and their up-todate role on the global economic scene. The paper relies on a qualitative approach in order to investigate the very nature, the performances and the impact of MNCs on host countries. It employs available data from international databases and reports released by well-known international organizations (namely UNCTAD and International Monetary Fund), working papers, articles or studies addressing especially the international business field, in order to highlight the spectacular dynamics behind the theoretical developments. The main findings of the paper consist of putting forward the overwhelming performances achieved by MNCs on global markets, by paying a special attention to MNCs from BRIC countries, which proved to be the engine of the world economy during the recent crisis. Many of them operate on the markets of South Eastern Europe and the evaluation of their impact on host countries also represents an issue with many practical implications. Index Terms-Multinational company (MNC), foreign direct investments (FDI), cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A), emerging economies, BRIC states. I.
The Role of Multinational Corporations in Global Economic Practice: Literature Review
2020
It's been known that the activities of various multinational companies drive economic globalization to a very large extent. This research work enumerates some facts in terms of their dominant role in all phases of globalization. Therefore, the importance of multinational cooperation’s in foreign direct investment and foreign production is examined likewise their contributions and impact to the international transfer of technology and knowledge to foreign trade. This study made use of articles, scholarly journals, and textbooks in reviewing the multiple activities of MNC in relation to their growth, national economic development, policy issues and technology transfers. From the studied literatures, we found out that MNCs have made great contributions to global economic growth and development, though it may vary, as the extent or level of technology transfer and internalization all remain a mirage, while other MNCs are known to be involved in various unethical business activities ...
Facts and Issues, from Multinational Firms in the World Economy
Depending on one's point of view, multinational enterprises are either the heroes or the villains of the globalized economy. Governments compete fiercely for foreign direct investment by such companies, but complain when firms go global and move their activities elsewhere. Multinationals are seen by some as threats to national identities and wealth and are accused of riding roughshod over national laws and of exploiting cheap labor. However, the debate on these companies and foreign direct investment is rarely grounded on sound economic arguments. This book brings clarity to the debate. With the contribution of other leading experts, Giorgio Barba Navaretti and Anthony Venables assess the determinants of multinationals' actions, investigating why their activity has expanded so rapidly, and why some countries have seen more such activity than others. They analyze their effects on countries that are recipients of inward investments, and on those countries that see multinatio...
Multinational Corporations Development
In this article, the issues that have captured the attention of researchers in multinational corporations (MNC) are discussed and the emerging research agenda is laid out. The first part focuses on understanding the history, and contemporary scale and significance of multinationals as economic actors. Two opposing perspectives are distinguished, the economic and the political. In the past, there was a rigid divide between these but, increasingly, researchers are using elements of both perspectives to understand the dynamics of multinationals. The crucial additional feature here is the importation of insights from institutional literature on the relationship between firms and national contexts. Multinational corporations (MNCs) are playing a large and growing role in shaping our world, both economically and politically. Public and academic opinion has long been mired in an inconclusive debate as to whether these phenomena are beneficial things that should be encouraged or harmful things that need intensive governmental regulation. The integrating thesis of this book is that the question as to whether they are good or bad is the wrong question and is based on the fundamentally faulty premise that all foreign subsidiaries are essentially similar, i.e., MNCs are homogeneous entities The inevitability of heterogeneity results in the imperatives of disaggregation and the fallacy of generalization if these complex, differentiated phenomena are to be properly understood.
The rise of multinationals from emerging countries. A review of the literature
