In connection with the active integration and globalization processes taking place in the world, the focus of attention of linguists, philosophers, culturologists and teachers is the cultural and linguistic interaction between representatives of different language communities. Of recent interest in these problems has been the theory and methodology of teaching foreign languages. Third-generation Federal State Educational Standards of Higher Education, aimed at modernizing the system of language education in Russia, towards qualitative changes in the preparation of graduates, orient the process of foreign language education in a modern Russian university towards compliance with established international levels, the standards adopted in the European higher education, and educational programs meeting the requirements of the Council of Europe. The article presents an analysis of modern domestic and foreign studies devoted to the study of directions for improving the methodology of teaching foreign languages in higher education. The trends of domestic foreign language education are: modernization of the methodology of teaching foreign languages in a non-linguistic university with a focus on international educational standards; co-study of the language and culture of the people; lifelong education; professional orientation of a foreign language course in a non-linguistic university; increasing the share of independent work of students; differentiation and individualization in teaching foreign languages. Foreign researchers view the personality quality we are interested in differently: in Western countries with a predominance of individualism, independence, autonomy, and personal active participation are of greater importance, while in Eastern countries with their inherent collectivism, special attention is paid to the rules and norms adopted in a particular society. This paradigm is of particular interest to us, since the studied category of students from among the indigenous inhabitants of Yakutia belong, rather, to the eastern mental group, while being members of the Russian nation, located at the junction of the West and the East. Consideration of these trends allowed us to move on to the theoretical substantiation, construction and implementation in practice of the author's methodology for the development of educational independence of students from among the indigenous inhabitants of Yakutia, represented by strategies, techniques, a set of forms, methods, tools and exercises aimed at forming the desired personality quality. I. INTRODUCTION The aim of our research is the theoretical justification, construction and practical implementation of the methodological concept of developing the educational independence of students of a non-linguistic university by means of a foreign language. Experimental work was carried out at the NorthEastern Federal University named after M. K. Ammosov, located in Yakutsk. One of the initial prerequisites for creating the concept of the process under study is the understanding of the directions of development of domestic methodological science in the field of teaching foreign languages in universities. To this end, we have studied texts "National Doctrine of Education of the Russian Federation" [6], "Concepts for the period up to 2010/2025" [5], federal state educational standards of the new generation [12], and also analyzed studies on the modernization of the Russian system of higher education. We state that today there is a situation when non-linguistic universities implement an unprecedented number of foreign language courses in bachelor's, specialist's, master's and postgraduate studies. At the same time, many universities offer programs of additional professionally oriented training in a foreign language. There is a trend in the need for foreign language teaching of the teaching staff of universities for subsequent lectures, practical classes and seminars in a foreign language. Disciplines related to the study of a foreign language may be included in different cycles of curricula and be presented in the basic / optional part, a cycle of disciplines to choose from for study. At the same time, the academic disciplines declared in the working curriculum differ in name based on differences in their content. Courses with the same name, but for different specialties, may have a different total amount of hours allocated to a particular educational unit, as well as a form of intermediate / final assessment of students. Analyzing the changes taking place in the Russian education system, the author of the theory of contextual teaching of foreign languages, A. A. Verbitsky, writes that it has received a "powerful impetus for transformation." According to the author, "... in fact, we are not talking about modernization, but about a deep reform of education ..." [2, p. 76]. He singles out the external and internal "contours" of domestic education, referring to the external the results of decisions from above, that is, from the state authorities and management, and to the internal-the educational process itself in the university.
Social and Cultural Aspects in Foreign Language Learning and Teaching

This article discusses information on foreign language learning and teaching (strategies, principles, pedagogy and objectives) from documents of the EU and Republican bodies, decision making on it by informed and responsible professionals, research data on the alignment of an academic course with the students' needs in foreign language teaching, reliable references and pedagogy, which amount to culture in execution in foreign language learning and teaching. The research aspect encompasses analysis of selected documents, which is followed by the author's insights and generalizations, and data on classroom research into the development of an academic course, in which the teacher's aspirations are trimmed and the students' inclinations are satisfied. Analysis of the documents (their volume, the number of languages learnt and taught in the EU, the age of young learners) features as a quantitative aspect in foreign language education, while research into the development of an academic course and near-native proficiency as a measure of competence in foreign language learning feature as a qualitative aspect in EFL. The role of social attitudes and of individual culture are highlighted in the treatment of errors and in the selection of language standard in EFL, which are minor questions and feature as premises rather than as objectives in the discussion. The article promotes a harmony and moderation in aligning administrative and pedagogic requirements with educational goals and information, technological achievements and perfected instruction.
University students’ socio-cultural competence development through foreign language teaching

The article substantiates the necessity of building up and reveals the opportunities of developing the socio-cultural competence of students of non-language departments with the use of information technology on the basis of enhanced culture-through-language studies component within the content of foreign language teaching for university students. In recent years, interest in studying foreign languages in connection with socioeconomic changes has significantly increased in Russia. All subjects of the educational system strive to meet the needs of self-realization of a person in a new socio-cultural environment; a dialogue of cultures of Western and Eastern countries is clearly traced. This fact leads to significant changes in the educational system as a whole, since training of a responsible and competent future professional begins to take a priority place in the field of educational services. At the present time there is a discrepancy between modern requirements to a professional and the content of the training. The need to increase the professional qualifications of specialists is determined by the expansion of the scope of their intercultural interaction, the growth of global problems, and development of the economy as a whole. Training of university students who are able and willing to participate in intercultural communication is most effectively carried out in the process of forming and developing their socio-cultural competence, with strengthening the language-through-culture component in the educational content. The term "culture-through-language study" is included in the definition of teaching foreign language content. When studying foreign languages, it is necessary to include information about social experience of people whose language is being studied. In the work the Internet technology "Web Quest" was used, created in 1995 by American professor B. Dodge, which is a web scenario of the project assignment and includes less complicated components such as "Hot list" and "Multimedia scrapbook" (lists of certain information, multimedia and Internet sources on the topic). If we want to prepare students for real intercultural communication, it is necessary to use information of authentic content in teaching. A culture-through-language study is a part of the area investigating the relationship between language and culture and is directly referred to intercultural communication.
Cultural Aspect of Foreign Languages Teaching for Higher Educational Establishments Students
The aim of the study is to examine cultural aspect of foreign languages teaching for higher educational establishment’s students and analyze new approaches of its organizing in contemporary theory and practice as well as to study and emphasize its cultural features and mechanisms. Methods of research include critical analyses of literature on the subject of research, containing a retrospective study of home and foreign experience, which allows to summarize and to formulate the basic teaching methods taking into account cultural approach. Innovative Framework for Teaching a Foreign Language as a Tool of Cross-Cultural Communication

Due to the tendency to globalisation, economists all over the world have a strong necessity to master a foreign language. Young generation of learners needs innovative approaches to language teaching. This article reveals the results of the research into methodological and psychological aspects of teaching a foreign language to students of economic departments in Ukraine andstates the essential educational objectives. It also suggests anovel teaching framework whose major goal is to give an advantage to students in their overcoming language, communication and cross-cultural barriers in studying process and which can be regarded as highly integral to the educational objectives that are central to gaining current competences. There is a great need as well as considerable potential in developing them. A broad education preparing the students for managerial roles in business and leadership roles in society is axiomatic. In order to train young economists, the lecturers have to take into account that their students as future specialists must operate on a number of different premises at any time. These premises arise from their culture in which they are working. Effective communication between parties in business is everything. Under the impact of practice demanding perfect knowledge of a foreign language there are reasons for close mutual cooperation between lecturers and students. There is pressure for improvement that is increasing more and more. In addition, there are special job requirements according to which students' needs have changed and the lecturers have good reasons to be concerned about anticipating and meeting the students' changing language wants and needs. The method of immersion considers teaching a university subject or subjects in a foreign language, completely superseding students' mother tongue from the process of studying. Involving students in preparing self-directed projects on cultural differences as home assignment we provide more opportunities for using and interacting in English and help them gain confidence and become independent language learners. Projects have to become one of the main components in any program. Digital technologies are making an increasingly significant contribution to language learning in many parts of the world and there are established and high profile journals and conferences where research is presented and discussed. These digital technologies are widely used in teaching and learning foreign languages in Ukraine. One of the ways to aid the process of teaching by means of technologies is computer assisted language learning (CALL). Reading as a classic technique is appreciated as an important part of students' development to increase the efficiency on the one hand decrease the number of mistakes in comprehension and translation on the other hand. Based on the kind of text samples, establishment of the general effect of reading and translation is therefore evident. Introduction. In the course of time and due to the development of science and technology, the understanding of the effective university foreign language classroom has changed. The most significant change took place during the pandemic when all the students had to attend online classes. Nevertheless, our assumption is that in view of the nature of the subject itself, teaching and learning languages either online or offline to science or humanitarian majors has common characteristics relevant to any type of the classroom. Background/Objective: The article covers the aspects directly related to linguistic-cultural adaptation. The purposes of this article are: studying and systematizing publications on general cultural and linguistic-cultural adaptation; describing the deliverables of linguistic-cultural adaptation of non-philology students and French expats; identifying the theoretical and practical bases for the elimination of the linguistic culture shock. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The descriptive, analytical and pedagogical observation method, i.e. an analysis of the work and discussions with students, have been used. In 2012-2016, first- year students (120) of the faculties of economics and law taught at the RUDN and French expats (60) were interviewed. Findings: Using the empirical method, the authors have demonstrated that the improvement of the general proficiency in Russian as a foreign language takes on crucial importance in overcoming the subsequent linguistic shock when transferring from pre-university education to its main stage. Improvements/Application: The results can be used in developing curricula and educational multimedia materials, teaching relevant courses in education and philology departments, and in the frame of in-service training for specialists in Russian philology. The outcome can be used in updating the methodology of teaching Russian as a foreign language. The article presents a controversial nature of undergoing radical changes in the sphere of teaching / learning foreign languages at the University level. Modernization of higher education in Russia requires critical understanding of efficient teaching methodology of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Historical perspective highlights language policy issues; describes efficacy and efficiency of the communicative approach in teaching / learning languages; shows multiple collisions of socio-cultural vs political issues in language education, and tackles desiderata of lifelong learning (LLL): continuing education for teachers of foreign languages. Diachronic insight into educational paradigms and description of the communicative approach via functional and contrastive methods make possible elaborating and formulating a series of principle assumptions, which are of utmost significance for the universities of the Russian Federation.
