Decision Making in Road Traffic Coordination Methods: A Travel Time Reduction Perspective (original) (raw)

2020 International Conference Engineering Technologies and Computer Science (EnT), 2020

Abstract

Traffic flow optimization is one of the main directions of research in transportation science, especially in the ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) field. Mobility affects each of us through the congestion problems by travel time increasing. The current paper provides an analysis of traffic flow management at the intersection level, concentrating on the intersection configuration methods. The main parameters of interest are the number of vehicles that succeed to cross the road network and the evolution of travel time values. To determine the better decision for intersection configuration, in terms of reducing the level of congestion, a simulation will be created in AnyLogic Simulation Software. Road Traffic Library of the simulation tool will ensure the obtaining of relevant results and the results of their comparison will decide which intersection configuration method offers reduced travel times and a higher number of vehicles that are crossing the road network.
