2011, Proceedings of 2011 Tsinghua International Design Management Symposium, Hong Kong" 4-5 December, 2011
Many evidences show that Italian productive system as being in decline, even if a deeper analysis reveals how a silent transition is actually taking place. Currently, different models of design-production relationship co-exist in the Made in Italy system. The paper thesis is that in the traditional relationship project-enterprise-distribution, new approaches are emerging: it is a complex reality linked to the world of self-production and open design finalized to produce and distribute micro productions relying on the artisanal know-how of SMEs or on advanced manufacturing systems. This experiences seems to define a new category of subjects, the Designer=Enterprise, who conceives new ideas for product-services, new scenarios and distribution models. The paper wants to imagine new policies which should instead sustain the development of personal skills and new forms of productive networks, as well the creation of an open market for product-service ideas, thus creating a supporting system for such new initiatives.
