Environment-Friendly building design
In recent years, culture of life which is affected by technological development cannot be succeeding on to generate environmental consciousness. This results in some environmental problems. Environmental consciousness is dependent on the relationship established with the nature. It can be seen that architectural buildings cannot provide contribution to this awareness although environment and architecture cannot be separated from each other. Today's construction is experiencing a transition to the exploitation rather than benefit from the environment. The most significant feature of this case is the amount of energy consumed in buildings. As a result of the incompatible relationship between architecture and the environment, the amount of required energy in order to ensure indoor comfort conditions is very high. The building sector consumes approximately the 40% of the total energy use in the World. As a result, natural resources are exhausted and indoor comfort conditions are not provided. In this context, natural environment and energy became significant factors in architectural design, and concerns regarding energy efficiency design applications are rising. The external environment conditions and climatic characteristics differ from location to locations. Therefore a building and its facade should be designed according to the environmental factors. The aim of this study is to discuss how energy efficient buildings are shaped according to the environment. In order to achieve this, an overview of current possibilities on energy efficient design will be given, and the importance of energy efficient design will be highlighted through examples to provide guidelines for new energy efficient designs.

Housing demands in big cities have an impact on the growth of apartments, especially the lower middle class in Indonesia. Development will have an impact on the increasing carbon emissions due to the embodied energy design and construction phases, operational energy, as well as disposal. A consideration of sustainability in reducing carbon emissions is needed. Currently, the sustainability approach has not been widely applied in the apartment development. In the tropics, the biggest cause of carbon emissions is the energy burden for space cooling, so the efforts to reduce the impact of carbon emissions on tropical buildings tend to focus on the efforts to reduce the cooling load. This paper will discuss various efforts (passive design) in reducing carbon emissions by reducing the cooling load in apartment designs. These efforts have been applied in the construction of experimental apartments in Tegal City. These are shown through appropriate site development, door, and window design...
Environmental Activation of Inner Space Components in Sustainable Interior Design
Sustainability, 2018
Implementation of environmental responsibility issues into the interior design methodology considers many aspects of the design process, but analyzes them separately. These include building materials' and products' specifications based on the assessment of their parameters impact on the users of indoor environments, or resource management within an ecological efficiency context. This concept paper concentrates on the analysis of an environmental activation of inner space components, identified by the author as the holistic and systemic design model, which is to empower the foundation of a contemporary sustainable interior design model. The proposed design scheme is supposed to assure the environmental effectiveness of interiors and their structure, as well as complementing functional components. The contributions of interiors completed in accordance with this concept can refer to the enhancement of the performance of building mechanical systems and the improvement in the indoor environment quality parameters. They can be achieved with the appropriate environmental activation-oriented structural, technical, and material solutions, applied to the selected inner space components. The theoretical scheme presented should become the basis for further investigations and studies to establish the comprehensive methodology design framework assuring the integrative role of interior design in the creation of a sustainable near environment.
THE IMPACT OF THE ARCHITECTURE INTERIOR DESIGN OF STUDENTS' SPACE ON THE SUSTAINABILITY OF SPACE
Journal of Built Environment, Technology and Engineering, 2019
The interior space in the educational building has a role in the sustainability of using that building, which students are the main users of that space. Unfortunately, this space is the results of designing the building. However, designers should give more effort to design these spaces according to users and function needs. The architecture and interior design linked the users' needs to space. The study focuses on the interior space of architectural engineering departments, university of Mosul as a case study. The research question of the current study is "what are the sustainable factors that can make the interior space liveable in the educational spaces". Therefore, the study approach is quantitative, using survey and VGA image analysis. The sampling follows the random method for those students that used the space. The results show that factors are related to the environment and design systems. The area and volume are not important to the students. However, the interior design elements and movement system show the high impact on users' behaviour. The architectural space should respond to the needs of the function and users to create a liveable space within educational space.
Environmental Sustainability in Interior Design Elements
2012
Interior design is a profession that serves for the human habitation in the environment. In the context of human needs, there are many different dimensions and levels of satisfaction. The interior space can satisfy the need of security, or it can lead to a satisfaction level from security to self-esteem. Recent global debates focus on to a basic need that is to survive. Need of sustainable environment is an obligation rather than a will, in order to survive. This study aims to discuss the interior design elements in the dimension of sustainability. The practice of interior design is also considered in the context of sustainability. Key-Words: Sustainability, Interior Design, Interior Design Elements
THE TURKISH ONLINE JOURNAL OF DESIGN, ART AND COMMUNICATION, 2016
Issue of sustainable development has been introduced as one of the most common and important issues throughout the world, turned to an important issue in all the specialized fields and encompassed economic, social, cultural and other aspects of human life. Sustainable development refers to a process during which the people of a country meet their needs and improve their life regardless of consuming the resources which belong to next generations. A growing world population has an adverse effect on the earth's natural settlements and urban sprawl has led to irresponsible consumption of energy, the gradual warming of the planet and the increase in environmental pollution. Yet, a high amount of energy loss derives from non-standard methods of buildings for heating and cooling and inconsistency with climatic conditions. Therefore, sustainable development and applied concepts for sustainable development have been consistent with aims and intentions of modern architecture, proposed as an effective factor to achieve aims of sustainability. This research is a qualitative study conducted via descriptive-analytical method. In this research, library sources have been used to examine principles of sustainable architecture design in crowded residential complexes with an outlook to resuscitation of nature in architecture.
Proposed Methodology for the Design of Indoor Environment in Sustainable Buildings
There is growing trend to develop a mechanism that can provide comprehensive assessment of buildings for sustainability. Many strategies proposed as approaches for energy-saving and resource-recycling, as well as buildings for sustainability should aim at acceptable indoor environmental quality to maintain occupants' health. This paper presents a comprehensive index, IEI (AHP), composed of the filtered physical indicators, for quantitative assessment on the built environment. A set of the weighting among the physical categories is carried out through the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The criteria of these indicators, from the literature review, were addressed after the adjustment compared to the magnitude-distribution results, which were investigated from the existing student residences in Tianjin.
Green building and energy efficient design
World Journal of Advanced Research and Reviews , 2024
In the construction industry, adopting strategies such as energy-efficient design or construction as well as green building construction technologies will minimize environmental harm and promote sustainability. The energy efficiency is emphasized as a core part of sustainability within the architecture, also as the perceiving 'what is…', its methods and benefits, green building concepts are explored. It includes energy efficiency, water efficiency, materials efficiency, interior environmental quality and site and building design efficiency. There is mention of a range of energy efficiency measures including the use of advanced insulation systems, passive solar design, energy management techniques, and the use of renewable energy sources. All these points bear very clearly the projections for enhancement of urban landscapes and health of the world while also looking into the challenges and possibilities for the future of the green building practices.
