Sustainability
Education for sustainability may be seen as consisting of four dimensions: sensitivity and attitudes toward the environment, awareness and knowledge of the environment, environmentally friendly actions and participation. A questionnaire was drawn up which includes statements concerning all these dimensions and it was filled out by 674 university students from different majors. Data were analysed statistically and a structural equation model was formed. Results indicate that sensitivity toward or awareness of nature is the basis for the enjoyment of nature. The enjoyment of nature is directly positively related to the intention of support pro-environmental activity and to environmental knowledge. Furthermore, it has a mediational effect on ecological knowledge, concern, or the belief of human dominance over nature. Students who possess global concerns do not accept human dominance and this is related to the intent to support environmental activities. Students were found to form group...

Abstract Encouraging the adoption of a pro-environmental behavior is critical in order to reduce the environmental impacts and to move toward a more sustainable future. Higher education plays an important role in training professionals who have an important role in protecting the environment in the future. e aim of this study is to identify whether there are significant differences between college students depending on their diploma of specialization, related to the environment or not, the year in which they are studying and gender. e sample consisted of 383 engineering students in first, third and sixth year, with two instruments designed to measure environmental attitudes and behaviors. Significant differences were found between students pursuing diplomas related to the environment and those who are not. Otherwise, no significant differences were observed between students enrolled in different levels. Perceived effort, positive environmental attitude or perceived positive consequents predict the frequency of pro-environmental behaviors in students, the former (perceived effort, negative) being the most influential variable.

Environmental values and education in Spanish universities: a questionnaire validation
Purpose-To protect the environment and society, research on responsible behavior and personal values has increased. Values have been identified as important for understanding and predicting environmental preservation behaviors. The purpose of this study is to analyze the validity and reliability of the Environmental Portrait Value Questionnaire in the Spanish context. Design/methodology/approach-The new version of this questionnaire was administered to 742 university students (46.4% male and 53.6% female) from 16 regions in Spain. Findings-The results of adapting and testing the instrument's psychometric properties were consistent with accepted criteria for validity and reliability. Therefore, this updated and contextualized instrument has the potential to contribute to academic advances in the sense of expanding the empirical practice of studying environmental values. Fifteen items from the original version were retained, grouped into four factors as in the original version: Altruistic-five items; Egoisticfour items; Biosphericthree items; and Hedonicthree items. The final version showed adequate fit indices and reliability measures. Originality/value-This instrument is a powerful resource for the Spanish academic community because using this application it will be possible to assess the degree of commitment of young adults to the goals of sustainability and environmental protection.
Determinants of Pro-Environmental Behaviour Among Students
2021
This paper examines the determinants of pro-environmental behaviour among university students. It uses the theory of planned behaviour in determining the factors that lead to such behaviour. The determinants consist of environmental awareness, psychological factors (motivation, moral norms, perceived behavioural control and attitude), environmental knowledge and personality traits (agreeableness, extroversion, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness to experience). Data was collected using convenience sampling through self-administered surveys and online forms distributed to 400 students in a public university in Malaysia. Data was subjected to construct validity and reliability analysis. The findings highlighted that motivation, agreeableness and perceived behavioural control were positively related to the practice of pro-environmental behaviour, whereas environmental awareness, moral norms, attitude and environmental knowledge were negatively related. Some personality traits, namely neuroticism, openness to experience, conscientiousness and extraversion, did not show any significant relationship with the practice of pro-environmental behaviour. This study provides a scope to improvise and incorporate environmental practices into the habits of students by aligning their goals with the universities' dimensions, including curriculum, campus operation, research and outreach activities. The results could make an important contribution in establishing a sustained green culture through a new university paradigm.
A Study on Developing an Environmental Behavior and Attitude Scale for University Students
2013
The aim of this study one of the highest consumption rate is belong to university youth and the Likert-type questionnaire was developed in order to measure university youth environmental attitude and behavior as Phase I. In order to develop questionnaire first of all litterateur was reviewed. With the help of specialist 2 dimensional 31 items questionnaire was prepared. Every item in the questionnaire has 5-point likert scale. To calculate the validity and reliability, questionnaire was applied to Suleyman Demirel University students. As volunteer, 531 students are participated to calculate the reliability and validity of questionnaire. To emphasize validity and reliability of the questionnaire confirmatory and explanatory factor analysis, inter class correlation, discrimination power of items was calculated. In order to determine the level of internal consistency reliability of the scale Cronbach's alpha for attitude is 0.803 and behavior is 0.761.

Determinants of Environmental Sustainability among Students in Higher Institution
International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences
Education for environmental sustainability nowadays is part of the education curricula. The importance of educating the young generation to be more sensitive and preserve the natural environment is critical to ensure environment sustainability. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the independent variables (knowledge, skill, crop management, motivation on environmental sustainability) and dependent variable (attitude on environmental sustainability) and to identify the significant factors (knowledge, skill, crop management, and motivation on environmental sustainability) effecting attitude on environmental sustainability. This study applied a cross sectional study on 29 students in one public university in Kelantan and the data was gathered by using self-administered questionnaire. The statistical analysis that have been applied were Pearson Correlation and Multiple Linear Regression and were analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 21. In conclusion, only one factor which is knowledge has a significant effect on attitude toward environmental sustainability. This study suggested that conducting the study on large population and include new variables that may have effect the attitude toward environmental sustainability. Environmental sustainability is very important in the future. Therefore, the younger generation needs to be educated to love the environment and have the right attitude towards the environment.
Investigation of the Environmental Attitudes and Approaches of University Students’
The purpose of this study is to determine university students' approach to environment and nature, and their awareness of environmental protection. For this purpose, a survey with sample of 12% applied to the students of the Faculty of Architecture, Gazi University. Approaches and attitudes of students evaluated according to variables of age, gender and their attended programs and grades within the scope of protection of the environment, human-environment-nature relationship, the use of natural resources, environmental issues, economic growth and industrialization issues. Descriptive statistics and quantitative methods were used in the process of analysis and evaluation of the data collected. In the conclusion of study, It has been determined that students participated to this study are indecisive about environmentalist and nature-centered approaches. Students were also found to be indecisive about sensitivity related to environment, nature and environmental issues, in taking individual responsibility and changing their attitudes and behaviors. When approaches and sensitivities of students analyzed according to their gender; sensitivities of girl students were higher, and according to their department; sensitivities of students at the department of urban and regional planning were found to be higher. There is no significant relationship found between the environmental awareness of students and courses taken by these students about ecology and the environment.
