Today the empowerment of women has become one of the most important concerns of 21st century. But practically women empowerment is still an illusion of reality. We observe in our day to day life how women become victimized by various social evils. Women Empowerment is the vital instrument to expand women’s ability to have resources and to make strategic life choices. Empowerment of women is essentially the process of upliftment of economic, social and political status of women, the traditionally underprivileged ones, in the society. It is the process of guarding them against all forms of violence. The study is based on purely from secondary sources. The study reveals that women of India are relatively disempowered and they enjoy somewhat lower status than that of men in spite of many efforts undertaken by Government. Women empowerment is one of the important concepts in the present scenario. Empowerment of women leads to the socioeconomic development of the society and bringing women into the mainstream. It makes improvement of women in social, economic and political empowerment, which leads to women in equal participation in politics and decision-making process and makes active participation of women in all levels of development. It involves power to, power with and power within. It guides women into capacity building and leading to greater participation, effective decisionmaking power and control leading to transformative action. The Central and State Government has launched various schemes for the growth and development of women status. The present study is an attempt to examine the conceptual meaning of women empowerment and various Government Schemes initiated by the government of India for upliftment of women. Index Terms-The conceptual meaning, ways of women empowerment and Government Schemes for upliftment of women empowerment in India.
Women Empowerment –Problem and Potential with special reference in Indian context
The basic point in the discourse regarding women empowerment is that women empowerment will flourish and enhance in the fertileness and friendliness of societal climate rather than just any law and regulation or policy. The present paper strives to look over glimpse of women empowerment in context of India. The present paper strives to scrutinize the status of women and their position in contemporary time. And in doing so I endeavor to examine the issue of women empowerment through the lens of Gender equality and societal constructs rules and norms; Freedom, right, and Violence; issue of Missing women; Property rights and the role of State in post independence era. India being the believer and advocator of democratic society believes that gender inequality is biggest impediment for creating an egalitarian and just society. To change the status of women position and empower them is not just lies with state policy institution, their policy or feminist movement rather a broader social attitude is utmostly needed.

The present discourse on women's empowerment is now trying to mainstream the gender concerns and engaging them in the development process of the country. Besides, it seeks to see women as more recipients of welfare benefits. In this article investigators try to envisage into the understanding of women's empowerment perspectives. The study also tries to focus those development approaches which can accelerate to the pace of women's empowerment. To study the gradual changes which have taken place in improving the status of women since Independence (1947) along with understanding improvements of their status. Data from Census of India, NSSO and National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) show the contemporary scenario regarding demographic, health-care, educational, economic participation, decision-making conditions with the major social obstacles in path of women's empowerment in Indian context. Empower means to help or assist to any person for any work in which he/she is able to do due to the ignorance or not given a chance to do as other person got. In India women is also affected for their empowerment and get many recourse to recover whatever she lost or unable to fulfill in various forms i.e. social, political or economical as the men enjoy. The status of Women Empowerment cannot be visualized with single dimension rather Multi dimensional assessment in terms of various components of women’s life and their status would bring a clear conception. The Constitution not only grants equality to women, but also empowers the State to adopt measures of positive discrimination in the favors of women. Within the framework of a democratic polity, our laws, development policies, Plans and programmes have aimed at women’s advancement in different spheres. This paper highlights constitutional rights of women and various laws and Schemes for the empowerment of women, and different barriers in India for the development of women.

.The aim of the study is to determine the factors affecting women empowerment and the issues faced by them. The paper also reveals the status of women empowerment in India and how factors are affecting the current status of women in India. The chosen factors for this research are status, health, access to education opportunities, exposure to media, decision making power social, freedom of movement, economic and legal rights as men, adopted from past literatures and various reports. The urge for equality on the part of Indian women started getting momentum during the colonial times. Empowering women means one family is moving forward with that one village moves and the nation moves simultaneously. It is found that women in India are not empowered and treated lower status relatively to men. To overcome all the prevalent issues, many efforts have been done by government to empower women at national level across India by implementing various schemes and initiatives.
