Abstract

ABSTRACT To assess the research performance of state universities of Uttar Pradesh in science and technology field, the present study analysed all the twenty three state universities of the state under the shadow of Scopus database from 2006-2010. All the universities were searched in the database using the ‘affiliation search’ and it was found that only eleven universities were indexed by the database. The data of these universities were downloaded and analysed by the methods of scientometrics. It was revealed that the University of Lucknow comes out to be the top ranked university of the state, followed by Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University. While as it was also found that out of the eleven universities, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology were the least productive university in science and technology in the selected period of study. The study further analysed the various research patterns of the publications like the yearly distribution, subjects areas covered, document types used, languages used for communication, etc. Besides, it gives the top 50 ranked list of journals and the most prolific authors of these universities as well.
