Textile Companies and the Factors Involved in Their Competitiveness. A Bibliographic Review

Currently, large, medium and small companies present great challenges in a global and competitive world, the human factor within the organization has taken an important role because it is to be thinking within the company with the determination of the fulfillment of the objectives. In this context, this research will analyze the competitive performance of the textile industry on a global scale from the bibliometric study of the human factor, productivity, innovation, customer service and determine whether the knowledge, skills, experiences, etc., with which they have, affect or contribute to competitiveness in order to identify which are the variables that impact on the total improvement of competitiveness and thus propose improvement solutions that allow the growth of this sector. In this way, the main beneficiaries are the entrepreneurs who, based on this study, would take into account determining factors that impact the competitiveness of the company. This analysis is carried out by means of a detailed bibliographic review.

The Determinants of Firm's Competitiveness in the Textile and Apparel Industry in Tanzania

This study explores the determinants of firm's competitiveness in the Textile and Apparel Industry in Tanzania. Data were collected from 204 respondents through cross-section survey design and non-probability sampling method from three regions; namely, Dar es salaam, Mwanza and Arusha. The Maximum Likelihood technique was used to estimate the Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) in order to compute the fit indices of both measurement and structural models. In doing so, Factor Analysis was used in the preliminary step before estimating SEM in order to filter out key variables that need to be embedded in gauging competitiveness of the textiles and apparel industry. Thereafter, the principle component analysis (PCA) was used to extract the relevant constructs in the SEM. The estimated results show that value chain management, core competencies, competition, availability of alternative products and barriers to entry are statistically significant constructs in explaining the competitiveness of firms operating in the textile and apparel industry in Tanzania.

The scientific significance of the research results was determined by the fact that it can be used to identify specific aspects of brand competitiveness management and enterprise competitiveness, brand management in enterprises, development of branding strategies and the formation of special strategic programs and program goals to transform the national garment brand into global brands. Dynamics of Comparative Advantage and Competitiveness of Textile and Apparel Industry: An Empirical Analysis for China and Bangladesh

Aims: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the level of comparative advantage and competitiveness of Textile and Apparel (T&A) industry of Bangladesh and China in the global market. It also tries to link the competitiveness analysis with the trade theories of comparative advantage to synthesize different approaches of competitiveness recommending with policy implications. Place and Duration of Study: We used the two digit classification of Harmonized System (HS) data of 14 main products of Textile and Apparel industry of Bangladesh and China over the period from 2000 to 2015. Methodology: The proposed approach is based on the Balassa revealed comparative advantage Original Research Article Hossain et al.; BJEMT, 16(1): 1-19, 2017; Article no.BJEMT.30840 2 (RCA) and Spearman Rank Correlation coefficient (r s) to examine the comparative advantage and competitiveness respectively for 14 main products of Textile and Apparel industry of Bangladesh and China. For calculation of RCA values, the export data have been taken from UN COMTRADE, an electronic database of the United Nations. To calculate the trends of trade between the two nations and individual industries, we used the database of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), database of International Trade Center (ITC), and the World Trade Organization (WTO) database. Results: The findings show that during this 16 years period, among the 14 products; Bangladesh improved her comparative advantage over 7 products, lowered over 5 products and remained quite unchanged over 2 products whereas China improved her comparative advantage over 8 products lowered over 2 products and remained quite unchanged over 4 products. According to the Competitiveness analysis of the 14 products; 3 products exhibit higher competition, 6 products exhibit modest competition and 5 products exhibit complementary between Bangladesh and China in global market. As a result, policy implications were discussed in this paper. Conclusion: In this paper revealed comparative advantage has been analyzed at the two digit level of HS classification for both Bangladesh and China. The implications reveal that the three main stakeholders of T&A; the government, manufacturers, and buyers must work together to realize the potential of textile and apparel market for both Bangladesh and China. It is suggested for both countries to improve the industrial competitive advantage through human resource exploitation strategy and innovation in science and technology. Improving product and market diversification and reducing the lead time also suggested for improving the competitiveness of Bangladesh's T&A industry.

Competitiveness attributes of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the global market (case study: garment SMEs in Tri Tunggal Village, Lamongan)

The center of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of garment in Tritunggal Village, Lamongan produces t-shirts, jackets, sport costumes and school uniforms, and other garment products. The SMEs have a potential opportunity to develop their marketing strategy so that they can compete with similar industries and obtain profit from the national market. This study aims to identify main criteria of marketing strategy to compete with other garment industries at the national level. The criteria determine the improvement of competitiveness of the SMEs. Competitiveness of Textile and Apparel Industry of Bangladesh with China in In-ternational Trade

This paper used the Balassa Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) Index and the Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient (r s) to analyze the situation of competition and complementariness in the textile and apparel (T&A) industry between Bangladesh and China in international trade. Data of eleven key products of the industry in 2000-2009 was analyzed. The study explored that in six of those eleven products competition exists and in five remaining products complementariness exists between Bangladesh and China in global market. Consequently, several solutions were proposed to help improve the competitiveness of Bangladeshi T&A industry.

Competitiveness in the Textile and Clothing Supply Chain

The competitiveness scenario in the textile and clothing is always changing with the entrance of new players and changes in the rules of trade. This can be observed by looking at the developments that took place around the world in the last decade. This study finds how things are changing in this chain and how players are positioning themselves in this new competitive scenario. One such player of the chain is focused for study and its strategic position was analyzed and directions for improving competitiveness were identified. The focus is taken to more depth by considering the tactical issues for the competitive options already identified.

Trade Entropy index calculation indicates that the geographical diversification of Bangladesh’s RMG export has increased considering the value of the index, it has increased more than two times during this time period. But, in spite of increasing geographical diversification of the RMG sector market, its export is still heavily concentrated on two markets: the European Union EU (28), and the United States of America (USA). The paper also provides a set of policy recommendations that would be helpful to both RMG sector stakeholders and policymakers to move forward the sector towards more export competitiveness.

The textile and apparel industries are labor-intensive and capital-intensive industries. The focus of this research looks at the competitiveness of textiles and apparel in Indonesia, China and India. The research method used is comparative descriptive, with the Herfindahl approach, Trade Specialization, Relevealed Comparative Adventage and Constan Market Share. Herfindahl calculation shows the market structure in Indonesia, China and India in the form of perfect competition. While the Trade Specialization approach, Indian exports are more stable than Indonesia and China. The TSR approach generally shows Export Promotion.
