Development of a Turkish Respect Inventory for Values Education: Validity and Reliability

The purpose of this study, a comprehensive format and a Likert scale to develop respect. For this purpose, a list was created by a broad review of the literature. In addition, 260 volunteer participants, "What do you respect?", "What do you think a sense of respect?", "Do you think respect is the behavior?" Were asked to answer questions? These open-ended questions and 70 answers given classified material formed. 5-grade Likert scale items and the scale format is built to be answered and the printing of instruction were made accordingly. The aim of this study is to determine prospective teachers' democratic tendencies and respect for differences levels; to examine the relationship between their democratic tendencies and respect for differences levels and to determine whether their democratic tendencies and respect for differences levels change according to gender, grade level and department. This study was conducted with 316 students studying at Yüzüncü Yıl University, Faculty of Education. As data collection tools, "Prospective Teachers' Democratic Tendencies Scale" developed by Akbaşlı, Yanpar-Yelken and Sünbül (2010) and "Respect for Differences Scale" developed by Öksüz and Güven (2012) were used in this study. In data analysis; t-test, Anova and Pearson Product Moments Correlation Coefficient were used. As a result of the study, it was found that prospective teachers' respect for differences and democratic tendencies are at high level. A positive and significant relationship was found between total score of prospective teachers' respect for differences levels and democratic tendencies. Prospective teachers' democratic tendencies don't change according to gender, grade level and department, but in the sub-dimension " freedom of expression " it turned out that male students showed more democratic tendencies. In this study, it was found that female students are more respectful to differences than males and 4th grade students are more respectful to differences than first year students. It was also found that the students of Turkish and Foreign Languages departments are more respectful to differences than the students of secondary school science and mathematics department and CEIT department.
Attitudes and Correlates of Turkish College Students in Relation to Female Honour

Honour is closely associated with such concepts as dignity, integrity, and morals, and also causes changes in people’s attitudes and behaviours as well as in their cultural environment. The present study is intended to investigate attitudes and correlates of female honour in college students. A correlational study was conducted on 2924 undergraduates studying in various faculties at a state university in the Central Black Sea Region of Turkey. They completed a questionnaire, including the Attitude Scale for the Conception of Honour Related to Women (ASCHRW), and a Demographic Information Form. The Mann-Whitney U Test and Kruskal-Wallis H Test were used to test the research hypotheses. Study results revealed that college students’ attitudes towards the conception of honour in relation to women varied according to gender, class, socioeconomic level, and faculty. As a part of a larger project at Akdeniz University (2011.01.0116.002), 37 students were given a questionnaire containing 40 Likert-type questions. The questions interrogated four main domains, namely, which qualities or habits are perceived as social differences, their famili l differences. Descriptive statistical analyses were carried out and the results inform us about the social groups towards which university students hold negative perceptions along with the sources of such negative perceptions. The results also call for the need for intervention of university administrators and curriculum designers to change such negative perceptions.

The validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Honor Scale-Onur Ölçeği Türkçe formu
The aim of this research is to examine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Honor Scale (Guerra et al., 2013). Participants were 212 university students. The results of confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the 16 items loaded on four factors and four-dimensional (Family honor, Social honor, Masculine honor, Feminine honor) model was well fit (x²=202.37, df=92, RMSEA= .075, CFI= .90, IFI= .90, SRMR= .088). The Cronbach Alfa internal consistency reliability coefficients were .56, .72, .61, .79, for subscales, respectively and .83 for overall scale. The corrected item-total correlations of the Honor Scale ranged from .29 to .59.
Th e purpose of this study is to determine the preferences of Turkish academicians about the values of the most positive and negative characteristics that they want to see in their children, students, and colleagues. In this study, Bacanlı’s (2002) ‘the most positive’ and ‘the most negative’ adjectives data gathering tool is used to collect the data. Th e population includes 75.000 academicians from public and private universities. Moreover, the sample, which consists of 3400 academicians, is selected by using systematic sampling. Th e survey method is used and frequency, percent, and Chi-square are conducted to analyze the data. When the results of the study are considered, the academicians valued that the most positive characteristics of their children is to be “honest,” of their students is to be “hard-working,” and of their colleagues is to be ”open-minded.” However, the most negative characteristic of their children is to be a “liar”, of their students and colleagues are to be”inconsistent” in their behaviors.
Determination of the Personal Values of the University Students in Different Departments

This research aims to examine the personal values of the first-year university students studying in different departments. This is a descriptive cross-sectional survey study. Research population is composed of first-grade students approving to participate and studying in the Nursing Department in the School of Health, Biology Department in the Faculty of Science and Letters and the Department of Early Childhood Education in the Faculty of Education of Uludag University. ''Student Information Form'' and ''Schwartz Values Inventory'' were used for data collection. When the values inventory is examined, it is seen that the point averages of the students are the highest in safety sub-dimension and the lowest in power sub-dimension. Power, achievement, and hedonism and tradition point averages of the students in the Nursing Department of Health Sciences are higher than those of the students in the departments of science and educational sciences, and the difference in between was found out to be statistically significant. Point average in the achievement sub-dimension was found out to be high among male students (p \ 0.01). It was found out that the point averages of female students for hedonism, universalism, benevolence and conformity are higher than those of male students, while the achievement point averages were higher among male students.
